my mother and i were on opposite sides of the spectrum also. my grandmother didn't like to cook, mom did, i don't. told her it skipped a generation. all our traits did.

i don't like pine either. now don't get crazy about what i would do but i would paint it one of 2 colors. navy blue-i like dark accent colors or a metallic-look at the martha stewart metallic paints. i like her bronzes.

i agree. SATC is not for me. it seems that people who read this site are not really SATC people. i can take an episode here and there and i don't like carrie the main character. one of the things i do watch regularly is chez larsson.

to me the issue with the wallpaper is the size of the dots. much too large and then the sheen on the dots make this factor highly visible. i don't think art work, minimal or not, would work with this as background. don't have an answer as to alternative. maybe just white walls and great graphics. as for the stairs. i would definitely paint the risers white but the edge of the tread (what you see above the riser) a deep grey. leave the tread white or wood. i think more grey (riser, tread) would be too much and the space would be tighter feeling. the all grey on stairs would break the white feel and i would rather that than white wall, big grey line down center and white wall.

as Meagan and others have said, if you add a shiny penny to the water bags, it works. it seems the penny shines light on the fly's eyes and this makes them go away. for individuals i have found, and this looks screwy, that having those dryer sheets hanging out of your pockets other parts of clothes, or all around your chaise loungues really works.

i adore this and i wish i knew a word that topped adore. someone commented on how you take care of all the details and i think that is what always makes your projects amazing. when you finish you are going to have to get an additional house to start with. how about a friend,s?

i agree with elisa that i feel 'settled' when things are organized. when i have weekend, or worse yet week, guests i am crazy when they leave. they don't mean to create disorder, but between getting set up for them (usually in my study/guest room) and their normal activities i am nuts. as my father used to say "a place for everything and everything in its place."

i live in boston ma. it's the northeast part of the usa. this week our temps have gone from 83 to 60 F.during the day. at night, except for last night it's been in the 60's which is nice because you can put a light blanket on and think of the cold days to come when you get under that duvet and wool blanket and just luxuriate. and since i'm retired i love that i don't have to leave my warm bed. when i was a kid, years and years ago, we had distinct seasons which i love but now, it must be global warming, they are blurred. our spring was wet and cool. our summer, which is really hot and humid in august, wasn't there except for maybe one week. fall will very quickly go into winter which has been tough as hell for years. as much as people say they want warm weather i love the seasons.
