Dave;
I don't listen to radio at all, but it sounds like I'm on the same page as that guy. Of course, any such switch will be well timed for maximum impact and I think it *very* unlikely to happen before the 2014 elections. Christie, unlike so many in our ruling elite, strikes me as actually intelligent. I'm also on the same page as Clarice, as my view here is based on the presumption that Christie is looking out for Christie, and "Democratic" vs. "Republican" are just marketing labels to him.
narciso;
I'm not sure that Christie's hostility to public employee unions will hurt him all that much even in the Democratic Party. He won in NJ, didn't he? The basic conflict there is only going to get worse.
Waiting For Further Evolution
Michelle-bashing in the WaPo? Apparently Barack's evolution on LGBT rights is taking too long.
Dave;
No, I don't watch Red Eye. But I think it likely both of us had this thought triggered by the announcement of major tranzi donors and Soros affiliated groups contributing to Christie. Put that after his bromance with Obama, and the sinking of Clinton, and it just jumps out at you as a possibility. It would certainly explain the last year or two of Christie. It's possible he decided that the GOP brand was just too damaged for him to win on and what's a label, after all, especially if gets you the voting muscle?

Michelle-bashing in the WaPo? Apparently Barack's evolution on LGBT rights is taking too long.
My prediction - Christie switches parties with a "those guys are just too crazy / right wing for me any more" rant and then goes on to contest for the 2016 Presidential nomination for the Democratic Party. A 2014 blow out for the GOP might slow that down, but on the other hand the 2010 blowout preceded 2012...

My view - Cristie will run for the President on the Democratic ticket, after a dramatic "those guys are too crazy right wing for me!" switch. Who could stand against him? Clinton?

I will say that when I read a Scalia dissent I am left wondering what the other side could have been thinking and how they manage to show their smiling faces in public. More at the Times.
Rick;
The archives are transferable, it's just a matter of how much work you want to do. I've done exactly that in the past (e.g., Junkyard Blog). I can do it again if need be.
Blood Pressure Panic
The Sunday Times is going to give me a stroke. First, the Dead Tree edition has a great headline on the Heat-Pacers game after the Pacers forced a Game Seven - "Pacers Taking Everyone's Talent To South Beach" - but I deplore the breakdown of coaching concentration in Indiana (subsequently6 edite...
Danube;
Do you think that increased unhappiness will have any effect on voting in 2014 or 2016? As far as I know that was also the case after the 2008 elections and yet it's still "President Obama".
I also think the real problem with narciso's link about journalists having skin in the game isn't the basic concept but that we know it will (like IRS rules) be applied based on political affiliation. That's the real underlying corrosion of this sort of thing.

Apparently I've been lucky - Girl Three played "flesh eating bunny rabbits" at school with her friends and the teacher thought it was "so cute!". Boy Two built a car for the Pinewood Derby on the theme of More Dakka without any blowback. So there are still a few outposts of civilization left, even the the Chicago Way state of Illinois.
James Comey To The FBI
The NY Times tells us that James B. Comey, a "former Bush official", will be nominated to lead the FBI: By choosing Mr. Comey, a Republican, Mr. Obama made a strong statement about bipartisanship at a time when he faces renewed criticism from Republicans in Congress and has had difficulty winnin...
What I don't understand is what it is about Obama these tranzis love. Every claim I hear ("he's clean articulate and clean") could apply just as well to thousands if not millions of people.
Completely off topic to daddy - a son of a friend is graduating from high school and thinking about commercial aviation but doesn't want to do the military route. Any words of advice or would you be willing to exchange email with him? You can reach me at aog at the domain thought-mesh.net. Thanks!

Ignatz;
I think that's a harbringer -- the Modern American Left can no longer actually explain anything, with the ugly reality mug shot sitting out there, so the strategy seems to be to run people dumb enough to just spout slogans without ever wondering what they are saying. It follows directly from the passing legislation without reading it -- naturally you want people who wouldn't understand it even if they read it, thereby eliminating the problem.
Count Every Talking Point

Zimmerman Case - Jeralyn Merritt's Perspective
Having reviewed the first wave of discovery Jeralyn Merritt lays out her best guess as to what happened on the night of Feb 26. Do keep in mind it is a mix of "facts" (i.e., witness statements and physical evidence) and highly informed speculation. Let me highlight this: GZ did not have TM in si...
I need to find minimal storage that will allow me to keep my copyright. I'm not after charging for the download as a podcast. Mel and others, have any ideas?
One option is webhosting like ICDSoft.com, which I use for various things. $72/year for 1G of storage and 20G/month of bandwidth. There are many others in that same price range. Another is DropBox (dropbox.com) which has a free package with 2G of storage.

Away we go. Ross Douthat is very interesting on 'Julia'.
Ms. Kattenburg;
You mean such as when Martin was being asked a "bunch" of questions by Zimmerman? That's when I should support Martin's right of self defense from -- being asked a question? I'll just move if you once again make up various actions by Zimmerman that have no basis in the public evidence. Like the "bunch" of questions.

Ms. Kattenburg;
It is not enough to support a right in abstract, you must also support in actual implementation. Everything I read from you argues against actually exercising that right.
As for who has a right to self defense, in the current legal situation it is only Zimmerman's that is relevant. I don't dispute Martin's, I simply have seen no evidence that he had a need to exercise it. You keep claiming he did but never provide any evidence for it while flagrantly disregarding the evidence for Zimmerman. On that subject, what about that "bunch" of questions you claim Zimmerman asked Martin? Where is your evidence for that?

dublindave;
Given how poorly you have read other comments and my own just now, I should not be surprised that you have failed in your three weeks of reading about the US Constitution. Your level of projection seems to completely obscure the actual content.
cathfy;
I agree with what you wrote, I should have been more explicit about the context being personal safety, e.g. against the idea that Zimmerman should not defend himself, or make any effort to protect his neighborhood because that's the government's job.

dublindave;
Did you just tell us you really had no idea about the US and its Constitution? Yet it doesn't stop you from pontificating (quite wrongly) on the subject. That's real stupidity.
Put down the gun,seriously.Negros aren't going to take over the country and enslave you in their "Negro dictatorship".
Just can't avoid the racism, can you? If you actually knew anything you would realize it is the gun nuts and right wingers who support arming Negroes, and the proglodytes / left who want to disarm them. In this country gun control was created specifically for this purpose, before being applied to everyone. I can't say I am surprised to see you supporting it.

I can't tell if this is satire or not, but given her earnest history, I think she's serious --
But I thought it was the government's job to keep us safe.
I dare say few on in this group would agree with that. I certainly don't.
P.S. I am still waiting for the evidence of a "bunch" of questions from Zimmerman to Martin.

Ms. Kattenburg;
I live in a moderate sized town, but I have had that happen to me during visits to large cities and I did not consider those personal questions. Do you really react with hostility to people who do that? No wonder you have such a jaundiced view of people.
You're still missing on the "bunch" part - that Zimmerman asked Martin a "bunch" of questions. For the record, I do not consider one to be a "bunch".

"A bunch" of "personal" questions? Please provide the evidence for that as you insist others do when they make a claim. For the record, I do not consider "what are you doing here?" a personal question.

Caro;
Congrats. I am hoping to take She Who Is Perfect In All Ways out shooting this week for the first time in her life. She's such a joy - I told her I wanted to get a gun before our long hot summer and she said "you'll let me shoot it too, right?". Maybe I should tell her to yell "Cayyyyyy-rooooo!" as she shoots.
So Unseal The File!
Judge Lester of the Zimmerman case ordered witness names redacted and the file dumped back on April 23. Let's go! The magic of the intertubes will bring the files to the court website, sooner rather than later, we hope.
After Marissa posted bond and agreed to have no contact with Gray, she was released from prison and, according to court documents, drove to Gray’s new home where she physically attacked him.
That would seem to cast a bit of doubt on her story.

If the evidence claimed to support Zimmerman's self-defense claim is not convincing, is that okay, as long as there's a "preponderance" of unconvincing evidence?
Yes, if there is no other evidence. What should be done, just make up stuff? Oh, wait, that is what you have been doing. Never mind!
NO_LIMIT explains the failure of your other point. I would just note that your "counter evidence" disputes all claims of self defense, including valid ones. However, it is in fact legal to use lethal force in self defense. If you don't like that get the laws changed.
I do find this a fascinating study in the type of thinking Kattenburg uses. I encounter it often elsewhere and I am trying to build a model of it. This data gathering experiment has been quite informative.

Ms. Kattenburg;
so what you appear to be suggesting, then, is that *anyone*, not just Zimmerman, can be deemed not guilty or innocent of any crime without any legal process
No. You're conflating "trial" and "legal process". Being investigate by the police and by the local prosecutor is part of the legal process.
The actual claim being made is that the legal process of police investigation and review by the local prosecutor was a legal process that determined insufficient evidence to support a trial.
As for unambiguous evidence, despite the massive repetition, you still don't seem aware that Zimmerman's self defense immunity requires only a "preponderance" of evidence that his story is accurate, not "unambiguous" or "beyond a reasonable doubt". The consensus here is that the preponderance standard is met because there is evidence supporting Zimmerman's story, and none that dispute it. In slim to none, slim is the preponderance.

cboldt, Rob Crawford;
Is it then the best legal strategy to never warn someone when you feel mortally threatened but to just shoot him? That seems a bit of a perverse result.
