An Untamed Florida Unknown to Traveling Artists
Artists were traveling across the country as early as 1700 painting American landscapes. However, Florida was very isolated and untamed. Travel was not safe for artist or tourist until after the second Seminole Indian war and the Civil war. Continue reading

Many artist discovered the beauty of Florida they had never known while they were a freelance illustrator. Magazines like Harpers Weekly and Century Magazine sent artist with writers to the Florida tropics to do articles as early as the 1860's. Continue reading
