CARVING MORE STAMPS
I've had a fairly unproductive art time for a while (Excuses: got a new knew on January 16 and have been sort of dealing with that - will get a new right knee on March 6 - don't worry, I won't show you my scars; have been overwhelmed by snow and cold). I finally got into production mode and carv...
Happy Birthday, Julie! You're beautiful, and you always have been!
Becoming My Art?
My Mom is here in NYC visiting me because today is my birthday. Yesterday we were sitting in my living room and she said, "You know, I think you're starting to look like that painting." About a year ago I was snowed in in Colorado. I was there for the photo shoot for my book, Carve Stamp Play....
Warming Up
Writers often use prompts and time limits to warm-up or unblock. I do much the same thing when I draw. I give myself a time limit. Usually 30 minutes. Then I pick a short story that I have already read,... Continue reading

I love this so much!
A Bit of Pattern Carving
I had a long phone call with my Mom yesterday. It afforded me a bit of creative time. I put her on speaker phone and started carving and printing. This is the stamp I made: And here's what it looks like printed in black and white: And in color: It's amazing what a differe...
Thanks for this post! Especially thank you for including all the links to your past posts about project life. While these photo journals have always been visually appealing to me, I wasn't sufficiently inspired at first to do this myself. But as time goes by, I am more an more interested, and now I can't wait to begin. Just yesterday, I was thinking that I needed to go back through all your posts and read everything you've written and look at the pics you've posted to help me get started. Thanks once again for posting everything today. Perfect timing for me! XOXO
A Massive Project Life Update
I am still doing Project Life and loving it. In the past few months I've taken a simpler approach than previously. Here are a few of my current favorite things to do in my Project Life album: I use my handwriting -- messy and sloppy and so not perfect. But, it's fast and easy and makes ever...
I love stencils and cut some of my own and combine them with the ones I buy. The last time I used a stencil was a few days ago in my art journal. I would LOVE to win your feathers! I especially like the way you used them on the scrapbook page. I wouldn't have thought to use them as a background all by themselves, and it's stunning! Beautiful and dramatic! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
Summer 2013 Stencils: 4 Feathers
This is the 4 Feathers stencil: The name is a little misleading. There are four feathers, but it's also two feathers, in layers. You can use the feathers layered up: Or by themselves: Both of those examples use the 4 Feathers stencil in 6x6. The two projects in the video use th...
Yes! I belonged to a book of the month club that sent a 20th century classic, one a month, which were republished as special edition replicas of the originally published first editions. Love those books!

PAINT AND FABRIC
I have some ideas about making art quilts, embellishing my wardrobe, and making some purses (I think I'm going to try to sell some fabric purses). I have fabric (I bought a bolt of muslin) and I have paints. So, for part of this past week-end and today (which started out with thunder storms) I p...
Frida
Experimental play with photo apps today. I'm very picky when it comes to photo apps. I research the heck out of them, then limit the number I use to a bare minimum. And there are only a handful that I'd... Continue reading

I love your hand-carved stamps! Especially the bamboo, and the circles! Just wonderful, Joanne!
CARVING STAMPS
I have been carving stamps to use as pattern stamps for fabrics and papers. I started with carving blocks. Then I made sketches of what I was thinking of doing and found my speedball carvers. Now, it was time to draw my pattern onto the carving block and to start carving. After I car...
So beautiful, Joanne!
EASING BACK INTO DRAWING
I haven't done any drawing for a long time. I decided to catch up on drawing challenge themes; the theme that was due on May 27 is the next one in my book. It's "over there." I decided that a drawing of something from my trip to Japan would work for this theme. One of the strongest visual images...

Love the page! I have a similar attraction to radiating lines. I used to use them all the time, took a break from it, and am just now starting to use them again. Love the look and all the potential of the lines.
5 of 30 in June
This page was start in a 6x8 inch Stillman & Birn Epsilon sketchbook. I It’s got this awesome smooth plate finish, smooth enough that pens are great on it but tough enough I can work several layers and use watercolors. The finished image is 5x7 inches and is available matted and ready for framin...
Love them all! Your cupcake makes me hungry!
CATCHING UP ON DRAWINGS
I have been remiss in posting my drawings (not thrilled with my results) and then I got behind. I am now caught up. So, taking up my courage, here are some of my drawings:
This sounds absolutely wonderful! I'll definitely get this book!

Making A Statement
From time to time throughout history, a discussion about the function of art resurfaces. I personally believe that art is above function. It needs nothing to justify its existence. But there is no denying that art can be used in... Continue reading

Food Art
I've been reading the Another Lunch blog for a few months now. The blogger shares photos and how-tos on the adorable bento box lunches she packs for her kids. Here's an example: So cute! I love those little animal sandwiches. There are actually a ton of bento-focused websites. Like Bentol...
