Very cool.
We got a bunch of dapper snappers off of Amazon to help keep our skinny kiddo's pants up.
skinny minny's new belt
E is a skinny toddler. I mean, not freakishly so, but she's a slender, tall, string bean of a child. Her pants fall down. Sometimes even off. (One day, at daycare, apparently her pants fell down around her ankles while she played and she didn't even notice.) *sigh* So what's a mama to do? I p...
Was "antithesis" the word you were thinking of?
There's a new episode of Radio Free Burrito
These puppies want you to listen to Radio Free Burrito. So from time to time, I make this stupid podcast called Radio Free Burrito. It's this thing that I do because it's creative and entertaining to me, and is an easy way for me to amuse myself and hopefully share some interesting things ...
I loved Romeo and Juliet from when I first read it in 8th grade. Why? Because I figured out in the opening scene that they were talking about rude gestures, fighting, and sex, and insulting each other. Shakespeare was pretty awesome from that point on.
Famous Novelists on Symbolism in Their Work and Whether It Was Intentional
I read this great post on John Green's Tumblr, titled Famous Novelists on Symbolism in Their Work and Whether It Was Intentional: "Reading is not a game of Clue; books are not a mystery that you have to solve by putting all the pieces together. That’s not the point. Find the meaning you want to...
You know, if you actually CAME to Austin you could visit them in person. ~coughAustinComicConcough~ Especially since you owe us for missing w00tstock. You know, just saying. #AustinitesWhoWantToMeetWil
Homebrewzinga!
I buy almost all of my homebrewing stuff from my local homebrew supply, because without the kindness of the owner, I never would have had the courage to start what has become a passionate hobby for me. It's important to me to support local businesses, especially when those businesses are part of...
Yay!!
Because it will give me an excuse to buy and own and wear an ascot.
Last night, I was out having a drink with a friend of mine. Because we are both nerds and writers, our conversation steered into nerdy writer territory and stayed there. It was unseasonably warm, so we sat on an outdoor patio -- one of the few that isn't rendered useless to me by an army of smok...
YES THE DRAFTHOUSE WOULD DO IT!!! I KNOW THEY WOULD! (all caps cause I love this idea!)

I love how excited you are when you realize what the gift is. Your joy is infectious, as this clip totally made me smile.
it's a festivus miracle
If you can't watch the embedded clip, you can see it here. You can see the whole thing on the Nerdist Holiday special, Christmas Eve on BBC America.
When my husband and I moved down to Austin from MA, we stopped gaming consistently (unless you count him playing CoH and us both playing WoW eventually), mostly because of grad school and learning a new city.
Now, even though we have a new baby (he's six months old. one of his FAVORITE toys is the Chibithulhu we bought him last weekend. We are so proud), we are finally playing D&D again. It's so nice!
on the importance of making time to play the games you like with the people you love
In the introduction to my short collection of gaming essays called Games Matter, I wrote: Of all the things that make me a geek, nothing brings me more joy, or is more important to me, than gaming. I am the person I am today because of the games I played and the people I played them with as I ...
Loved it.
What's interesting is that until the narrator's gender was specified, I immediately assumed male over female. I think I need to work on letting go of assumptions.
Flash Fiction: The Monster In My Closet
About two hours ago, I thought to myself, "'There's a monster in my closet' would be a neat way to start out one of those scary short stories I loved to read when I was in middle school." I wrote it down, then wrote a little more and a little more. Right around the time I realized I had no idea ...
I'm really excited to use cloth diapers. You're posts have been really helpful in navigating the overwhelming world of cloth diapers.
Also, I tweeted here: http://twitter.com/#!/AtheneNumphe/status/60726551834136577
cloth diaper giveaway!
As the last in my little series on cloth diapering, I'm doing a giveaway! There are some fantastic things to be won. The wonderful folks at Rockin' Green have offered up a 45/90 bag of their awesome diaper laundry soap. (And you even get to pick your favorite scent!) I seriously love this stuf...
Eureka 4.5 needs to come out on TV first!
Tomorrow, I go back to Eureka
“What’s the forecast for Vancouver?” Anne asked. “It’s in the 40s and raining,” I said. “Oh, that sounds awesome,” she said, in a tone of voice that indicated the opposite was actually true. “It’s okay,” I said, “I have my scarf and my jacket and my warm hat.” As I listed each of these items, ...
The end of the story had me laughing so hard my eyes teared up. I blame the pregnancy hormones.
Ohh...I should probably let my cats back in...

My mom's friend's daughter got diagnosed with Celiac a few years ago. Then my mom went a little nutty and decided that all the world's problems were due to gluten. To the point where she pressured me into having my dr test my gluten tolerance. Guess what? It's fine. On the other hand, it's good to know that it's fine.
and now, a word from my mother about celiac disease
When we were kids, it seemed like my sister was always sick. By the time we were in high school, my brother and I were convinced that she was the best con artist of all time, regularly convincing our parents that she just couldn't go to school, and could she please have some pudding. Well, as it...
RHPS story. Cause I <3 RHPS. Also, you owe those of us in Austin, TX a visit!
w00tstock presents: Wil Wheaton vs. Paul and Storm at Largo
Later this month -- March 29, to be precise -- I will be joining Paul and Storm for a show at Largo, here in Los Angeles. This show will be a sort of concentrated w00tstock, expanding my 20 minute set of one story to about 60 minutes of probably 3 stories, and doing approximately the same for Pa...
We had a subscription.
We also got Games Magazine. I think there might have even been a Games Magazine for Kids subscription at one point (or maybe that was just Highlights).
in which Highlights for Children is discussed at great length
Last night, on the way home from dinner, I asked Anne, "Do you remember Highlights for Children?" "Of course I do," she said, "I remember how I hated going to the doctor when I was a kid, until I started reading Highlights in the waiting room." "Turn right at this intersection," I said, "and Tra...
Now I'm trying to figure out how to play D&D at a spa. Would that even work?
"In fact, I've never seen her this excited for me to go play D&D."
In my keynote to PAX East last year, I said that gaming is the foundation of, and the mortar that holds together, the strongest and longest lasting friendships in my life. I've been playing with the same guys since high school, and even though we all live in different states (and some of us live...
You are a sick, sick man Wil. I <3 you.
Short Fiction: 239 Sycamore St.
While walking through my neighborhood yesterday, I wondered what actually went on behind those manicured lawns and drawn curtains. I wondered how much I really knew my neighbors. This is what my brain spat out: Ian missed living in a city that didn’t keep any secrets from him, where everything ...
So, Wil Wheaton, you're meemaw hasn't died. You're skipping Texas w00tstocks to record and audition. You lied to us, Wheaton. We may never be able to forgive you.
...clawing at the ceiling of his grave...
All this week, I'm recording the audio version of John Scalzi's The Android's Dream. It's a delightful book, with wonderful characters, smart dialog, and some of the most enjoyable side trips into world building I've ever read in a SF novel. Also, it's really, really funny. Tomorrow, I'm going i...
At least the new earth tone sweaters don't have shoulder pads.
The Circle is Complete
Late last night, we wraped season four of Eureka. During a break in filming, I grabbed Neil Grayston and made one final stupid cellphone video from the set: You can see all my stupid cellphone videos at my YouTube page of stupid videos.
All of us in East Texas are very sad to hear that your meemaw died and therefore will not be able to make it to the Texas w00tstocks. We wish you all the best.
on the finding (and not finding) of evil wil wheaton
We filmed until 330 this morning, and when I finally got home a little after 4am, it was all I could do to convince myself to wash off my makeup and go to sleep. I woke up at 1230 this afternoon in the same position I fell asleep, and I probably could have easily slept another 3 hours or more. W...
HA! That's awesome!!
Wesley Crusher's Sweet-Ass Motherfucking Bouffant
When I was a teenager pretending to fly a spaceship, I got to do a lot of really cool things with a lot of really cool people. The price of admission to this wonderful world, though, was the most annoying hairdo I've ever experienced in my life. I called it Wesley's Helmet Hair, because it did n...

FLASHBACK! True Stories From Famous People
When I was a dorky teenager, I was sort of thrust into the spotlight by Stand By Me and Star Trek. I've written before about how weird the whole thing was, and how uncomfortable a lot of the attention made me, but it wasn't all bad; I got to do some cool things, and meet some cool people as a re...
Wow...that is made of awesome!
"as his kilt rises..."
I think this is one of those rare things that can be equally enjoyed* by those who have context, and those who don't. *for very disturbing values of 'enjoyed'

So, are we to wait until the end of the week to discuss the chapters for the week or are we to discuss the chapters during their assigned week?
