Hey guys So some of you that follow me on Twitter might have seen that my dog was at the vet hospital this weekend and that we didn't know what was wrong with her or if she would be alright. Well she's back home with us now, and The vet said that Tana got so nervous and anxious because my parents went out of town for 2 days that her body basically turned on her. Her defense system shut down, some of her organs were inflamed, and she couldn't keep down any of her food or water, and started throwing up blood. Basically, she had a very severe anxiety attack. She's fine now, but she has to be on a lot of medication and in a calm environment for a while. I just wanted to share this with you all, because I wanted to stress the point that dogs are extremely emotional creatures. Tana is like this because she was passed around between 3 or 4 other owners before coming to my family at the age of 3. When we first got her, she acted up a lot, chewed up our carpet and furniture, ran away, and was a lot of trouble, but she reacted like any foster child would after 3 or 4 families giving up on them: with rebellion, temper tantrums, abandonment issues, and a severe lack of trust. After she realized we weren't going to give up on her and were keeping her for good, she acted like any normal loving dog, and has been a sweetheart ever since, but the abandonment issues stayed with her, and she's been extremely nervous and anxious every time someone in our family leaves for more than a day at a time. This is the first time it has gotten this bad, to the point where if she didn't get medical attention, she would die. I wanted to share this with you all because I don't think many people really realize how much of an impact the decisions they make affect a dog's life. It makes me so sad and angry when people just get a puppy on a whim, and upon realizing how much work and commitment they are, end up giving them away to the first person that will take them. That's what happened to my dog, but 3 times in a row. And now look at how she is. It scares me to think about what's going to happen once I have to go away to college again in September, when she can't even handle my parents leaving for 2 days anymore... :(
