Rumor Patrol: 'Avatar 3' Begins Shooting In November? I know this may seem a bit far-fetched and it could very well be but YouTube partner and host of the weekly YouTube show, "Movie Buzz" Peter Rallis has come out and stated that Avatar 3 is set to begin filming this November. Apparently, Avatar 2 has wrapped production earlier this year. I don't know how true this rumor is but for now I'm leaning toward true. If Jim Cameron wants to release these films Christmas of 2014 and 2015, post-production would need to begin about now. After all, Avatar was in production since March 2008, well over a year before its release in December 2009. Avatar theme park attractions to be built at Disney parks Attractions, based on the James Cameron movie, will be constructed at Disney amusement parks. The first of the Avatar theme park attractions could be ready by 2016. The first "Avatar" land, which begins construction in 2013 and is expected to open about three years later, is to be an immersive experience in a land spanning several acres. It will cost around $400 million. Tom Staggs, Disney's chairman of parks and resorts, said the land would be similar in scope to Cars Land, a 12-acre area based on the town of Radiator Springs in Disney/Pixar's "Cars" movies. Cars Land is to open next summer at California Adventure Park in Anaheim. Cameron said the attractions based on the top-grossing film of all time would bring the lush, bioluminescent planet of Pandora to life and would include animatronics and 3-D and holographic technology. Fans of the film have said they wanted to visit Pandora, he said. "The scenes that people liked best were not the obvious things like the big battle scenes," Cameron said. "It was the creatures, it was learning to fly, it was being in the forest at night. "So here's an opportunity ... to bring this world to life and get you to wander in it and see things you didn't see in either in the first film or the subsequent two." Cameron is working on the second and third installments of "Avatar," to be released in December 2014 and December 2015. The park will include elements of the second and third films and elements that aren't included in any of the films. Sigourney Weaver Talks AVATAR 2 - She's Coming Back Next week, Sigourney Weaver stars opposite Taylor Lautner in the John Singleton thriller Abduction. ComingSoon.net caught up to the actress at today's press junket and, while we'll have a full interview with her about that film posted shortly, she also offered brief updates on two highly-anticipated franchise sequels. "Don't worry, I will be back," she said of Avatar 2, confirming the hint that she dropped nearly a year ago, "Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction. He's told me the stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they're absolutely wonderful and there's a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them." While there's not yet a specific start date, Weaver reiterated the plans to shoot sometime next year as well as a production schedule that will have Avatar 2 and 3 shot back-to-back. On the Ghostbusters 3 front, things are looking a bit more uncertain. Despite recent reports from Dan Aykroyd that the project would move forward in early 2012, Weaver says that it's been some time since her preliminary discussions about making a return appearance as Dana Barrett. Sam Worthington Offers Avatar Sequels Update Sam Worthington, star of the new film The Debt, told reporters that writer-director James Cameron is already at work on an atlas which will help him expand the world of Avatar for its forthcoming sequels. “I know he’s nutting out like a bible at the moment,” Worthington said today, “[It’s] sort of like a precursor of Avatar 1, to just get himself back into the world and the mindset and the characters.” Worthington indicated that he’s waiting for the call from Cameron on when to start, but he’s excited about the story. “Jim’s the person who will tell me when to show up,” he laughed. “I’ve talked to him, he’s told me what his plans for the story are, and it’s huge. It’s just monumental. But he’s not going to start until he raises the bar for himself, and he’s in no rush.” Worthington also said that Cameron’s decision to create a “bible” for the world of Avatar was very much in keeping with the filmmaker’s notoriously detail-oriented approach to everything he does. “That’s how he works – it’s very detailed and very weighty,” he observed. “But the story arc is huge; I needed a break halfway through because I was exhausted. It was insane, but it’s amazing. It’s going to be amazing.” (Thanks ComingSoon.net: http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=81028)

James Cameron Talks (A Little) About The AVATAR Sequels... James Cameron spoke to Fox News about the forthcoming AVATAR sequels. Choice quotes appear below: “We’re shooting two films back-to-back, so I’m writing two scripts, not one, which will complete a free-film story arc – not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc so I’m pretty excited about that... We’re doing a lot of preliminary work right now on new software and new animation techniques and so on. We’re creating a new facility in Manhattan Beach so everybody that’s not already dead is coming back.” "...everybody that’s not already dead is coming back.” Is this a backtrack on Cameron's previous hint (HERE) that Sigourney Weaver could feasibly return in the new films? Review: ‘Avatar: The Exhibition’ Explores the Alien World of James Cameron most exhibits explore phenomena that have already passed, but Avatar is an ongoing project, with James Cameron promising us two sequels that threaten to turn this into a true Star Wars-style franchise. While much of the Science Fiction Museum harks back to the sci-fi boom of the Sixties and Seventies, Avatar: The Exhibition is about as current as they come. Curator Brooks Peck has been careful not to include too many spoilers in his exhibition, however, instead taking a snapshot of the series as it stands now, exploring both Cameron’s vision of the planet of Pandora and his use of cutting-edge technology. The exhibition looks set to appeal to both movie buffs and sci-fi geeks alike, and it offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the most influential films in recent memory, and the brand new movie technology that helped bring it to the screen. Busts of Neytiri and Jake Sully at 'Avatar: The Exhibition' in Seattle. The first half of the exhibition deals with James Cameron’s imaginative world-building, delving into the planet of Pandora and the intricate virtual ecosystems that he created to lend the movie a pseudo-realistic edge. The exhibition includes around forty artifacts from the movie, but most engaging are the interactive exhibits, allowing you to get some hands-on experience of the world-building process. A multi-touch interactive table at the exhibition’s entrance provides an amusing look at the preliminary sketches and conceptual art for the world of Pandora, while another panel allows you to try your hand at creating your own alien flora from the building blocks provided by Avatar‘s artists. Some of the props provide an immediate visual impact too, especially the large AMP suit that looms over the room, and the busts of Mo’at, Neytiri and Jake Sully that were used as a visual reference guide for the movie’s CGI artists. The overhead lighting cycles through daytime and nighttime over a twenty-minute period, so watch out for the brief spell of black light that suddenly illuminates the hidden markings on the busts. It’s the technology at the end of the exhibition that truly wows, however, so save plenty of time for the virtual camera and motion capture interactive displays. The former is a tool developed by Cameron to help directors visualize and direct a CGI scene, and it allows you to take control of your own virtual camera, circling around and zooming in and out of the virtual scene in front of you. The motion capture display, meanwhile, is a dream come true for wannabe Hollywood actors and actresses, as you follow James Cameron’s direction and the software converts your movements into a CGI scene from the film. The best part is that you can then upload your ‘performance’ to YouTube, for all your friends and family to laugh at later. Pandora and Seattle have a lot in common. Both have a strong pro-environmental stance, lush, beautiful green foliage and a valuable natural resource. And though Pandora is fake and Seattle is real, the two become one this weekend as the Experience Music Project Museum will host the inaugural opening of Avatar: The Exhibition. The exhibit will be open from June 4-September 3 and include “authentic props and costumes, interactive displays, concept models, and sketches” from the highest grossing film of all-time. Plus, if you go on opening day, many of the film’s stars will be on hand. Get all of the info after the jump. Here’s what James Cameron had to say about the exhibit: "The exhibition is going to be a unique opportunity for people to learn more not only about how the film was made, but also experience Pandora in a much deeper way. Fans will be able to see in-person the workmanship behind the film, whether it’s how scenes are captured; or how a Na’vi costume was built first as a real world garment then produced digitally. It’ll create a tactile reality that’ll be a good companion to having seen the movie. For fans eagerly awaiting Avatar 2 and 3, this exhibit should be a pretty nice diversion. This and the stellar Special Edition Blu-ray for course. Plus, if you can’t make it all the way up to Seattle, it will travel the country once it leaves the Pacific Northwest though those dates have yet to be announced." On June 4, opening day, Michelle Rodriguez, CCH Pounder, Giovanni Ribisi and Laz Alonso will be on hand doing panels and checking out the museum. For more information on how you can interact with them, check out the official website. The EMP at Seattle Center is located at 325 5th Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109 and tickets are $18 on site of $15 on line. (Thx /Film: http://www.slashfilm.com/avatar-exhibition-opens-seattle-weekend/)

'Avatar' sequels to be solar-powered James Cameron will foot the bill for a massive solar installation at new film studio. James Cameron's search for a new home to house his Lightstorm Entertainment production company has finally ended — and, as expected, he's chosen a studio with a commitment to environmental design. The director and his business partner, Jon Landau, recently announced that the MBS Media Campus in Southern California (formerly known as Manhattan Beach Studios) will serve as the setting for filming the next two “Avatar” sequels. The five-year lease includes 115,000-square-feet of soundstage and production office space on the 22-acre campus. The studio’s environmental awareness was also integral in attracting Cameron, who intends to make the production of the films carbon neutral. According to the owners, MBS features “an aggressive water conservation program, eco-friendly paints and cleaning products, sustainable café and craft services practices and a number of programs to promote greener transportation by its employees.” Not content to stop there, Cameron will also be footing the bill on the installation of a solar array — said to provide all of the electricity needed to shoot and produce the sequels. The $5 million price tag will include such additional amenities as a gym for employees (and one for Cameron), a commissary adjacent to the sound stages, and a private screening room. In many way, this news simply confirms what the director said he would do last August. “These are things the studios need to be thinking about,” Cameron told the Washington Post. “When I do my next film, we’re going to go much farther than we did in terms of running a green set.” It's also worth mentioning that while the sequels will be created with the environment in mind, they will also help benefit green initiatives as well. "Some percentage of the presumably-massive 'Avatar' sequel gross will go to charity," he revealed earlier this year. "Fox has partnered with me to donate a chunk of the profits to environmental causes that are at the heart of the 'Avatar' world." Add it all up and we just might be looking at the most environmentally conscious blockbusters ever to grace the silver screen. “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3” will be released winter 2014 and 2015, respectively.
