The setting of this book, Odessa, Texas, and the time period, 1976, are both so key that they feel like two more integral characters in this story about rape, justice, injustice, bigotry, feminism, marriage, and loss. This isn't a feel-good book, probably because it is more reflective of real life, and real-life isn't easy. But it is extremely well written and one that you will remember long after you have turned its last page. Continue reading

But these days, fairy-tale endings come in all shapes and sizes. It's okay for the princess to end up with the prince, it's okay for her to end up with the footman, it's okay for her to end up on her own. It's also okay for her to end up with another princess, or with six cats, or to decide she wants to be a prince. None of these make her any more or less a feminist. ~ Sarah Haywood, The Cactus Continue reading

There were days I wondered if I would ever write this post. It seems like we have been at this forever. The house needed a lot more than a refresh and although it wasn't our original plan, we ultimately ended up tearing everything out and taking it back to the studs. Continue reading

That is a post from 2011 and I no longer have the source of the paint color but it is very similar to this shade from Benjamin Moore. https://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/color-overview/find-your-color/color/2067-70/white-satin?color=2067-70

It was time to bring in some fresh touches to our Florida home. I haven't done anything major...yet, but that might be coming soon. For now, I have just added some accessories like these fabulous monogrammed towels from The Happy Crabber. Continue reading

Lately, I've been pouring over my Home Edit bibles and scratching out lists for Target, Amazon, and The Container Store. While I was straightening and rethinking some of my storage options I began reevaluating what is working for me and what isn't, and during this whole process, I decided to share a few of the tricks that have been, for me, winning organizational hacks. Continue reading

I had sold or donated all of our trees before we moved and I didn't want to buy another tree and then have to find a place to store it the other eleven months of the year. I also had to do some major editing before we moved and I only brought some of my choice and sentimental decorations with us. And, some years we are only up north for a few short weeks. I didn't want to spend those precious few days decorating and then taking it all down and putting it away again. So this is how I repurposed our Christmas decor and simplified the process. Even during a pandemic special birthdays deserve a little something extra. We kept the guest list to just family but this was a birthday we wanted to recognize and to be a little bit special. Continue reading

At first glance, this warm golden-orange makes me think of Fall in the Midwest. I can easily see it with grey flannel chairs, deep aubergine pillows, or a jewel tone rung. But this is a color that also says Florida sunshine and could be equally beautiful in a coastal or tropically styled home. Continue reading

Lighting was one place where I could inject a bit of flair and personality in to this space. It took a couple of over-served cocktail hours with my husband to convince him that brushed gold is a whole lot cooler and therefore not the same as polished brass. But I got him on board and I love how the lighting looks. Continue reading

It's true, coastal looks often incorporate various shades of bue into their color scheme, but these images of Pantone's color of the year for 2020, Classic Blue feature a color that is anything but tired. Continue reading

The National Weather Service described this derecho as a straight-line wind storm that had winds as high as 140 mph, or the equivalent of a category 4 hurricane when it hit this part of the state and then continued its forty-mile wide march across Iowa and other Midwest states. Continue reading

One of the best improvements was the upgrade to the facia of this home. The addition of the Craftsman style porch and stone accents gave the house the personality it was lacking. Continue reading

I won't sugarcoat it. Moving isn't for the faint-of-heart and downsizing is moving on a whole different level but done right and methodically, it can be a lot easier than you think. Continue reading

Elizabeth, Thanks for the visiting and I'm always happy to find someone that has a style lean similar to mine. The house actually has a couple shades of painted trim. But I think you are looking for the trim colors close to the room and that accent the arches in the front. That color is Benjamin Moore 060 Fresh Peach. I've never considered myself a peach person and so I was a bit put off by the name but it worked with the body of the house. The other "peach" colored accent is Farmer's Market which is also a Benjamin Moore paint 054. The green has faded from the Florida sun and was much closer to black when it was painted six years ago but it is a Sherwin Williams Rockwood Shutter Green. I hope this is helpful.

Thank you for stopping by Be Colorful Coastal. The front door you are asking about came from Smith and DeShields in Naples, Florida. The door is from Therma Tru and you can see it in a different color and glass here. https://www.thermatru.com/globalassets/widen/marketing-literature/brochures/19_cat_fullline_mafl2019_lr_reduced.pdf It is the second photograph down. I hope this helps. Pamela

Don't get me wrong. I'm ready for this to pass but I wonder if someday I will be craving just one of these slower, closer-to-home days and the time I had to do almost nothing at all. Continue reading

I was in San Francisco that year and looking out of my hotel window one night and I thought about our boy back home who loved skyscrapers. I so wished he could see the night time landscape of skyscrapers that I was looking at right then. That view gave me the idea to paint something similar in his bedroom back home. It could be a project we worked on together. Continue reading

A Korean at-home facial is one of the most relaxing ways to make use of your quarantined time and since I was fortunate enough to experience the most amazing Korean facial I thought now, while we are all sheltering-at-home, would be a good time to share what I learned and the products used. In so many unexpected ways this pandemic has brought my family closer. We talk more often and for longer stretches of time. Yes, the boredom is real... Finally, I have to give a shout out to all the pregnant moms out there that are dealing with this damn pandemic sober. I applaud you. Continue reading

These large faux palm leaves bring a little whimsy, another splash of color, and a base for the centerpiece. Without any time to order, I was scrambling to create a centerpiece and the easiest option to pull in the colors I needed was to go with my favorite flowers in coral and white. Continue reading
