Cheers Mark - Good point! I think that there is a danger that we separate the body and the spirit and neglect the earthly body. Body is more than a carrier of the spirit. Bodily resurrection yes, but what does that look like? Is it this body - or a perfectified version of it? Is it a new body? Christ's resurrected body was similar yet different from his earthly body, both recognised and unrecognised. Maybe ours will be similar yet different, and within that there is a newness about them to. Which I'm pleased about as this ingrowing toenail has been hurting for about six months now...
Recreating The Lamentation Over the Dead Christ
As part of MIF there was an exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery called '11 Rooms'. Each room contained a different piece of contemporary art in one room was John Baldessari's piece called 'Unrealised Proposal for Cadavre Piece, 1970'. Baldessaari's proposal is to recreate a painting by Andrea ...
Hi Alan, thanks for the post. Perhaps I was over zealous in deleting all your comments, I felt your last few were personal and not constructive and hence I deleted them all.

Christian Celebrity| still looking for a saviour?
I hate Christian celebrity. It makes me puke… That could be the end of my post but I’m also really fascinated by it. I know I should read Pete Ward’s book…but time and all that. I’m fascinated by it not because I want to slag people off who find themselves as a ‘Christian celebrity...

Power and Emergent Systems
Everyone was telling me to watch ‘All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace’. I missed everyone of them. So I sat down and watched them all last week on iplayer – (bless it, but I do think that everyone who uses it should have a TV license…). Anyway, I found it fascinating particularly in r...
Thanks Karen, it's a bit dark.

Greenbelt line-up
I see that the first few names have been announced for Greenbelt this year. There are some great names that have already been confirmed, Rob Bell, Brian McClaren and Phyllis Tickle just to name three of the speakers. I'm really pleased that Billy Bragg is back again, I saw him a few years ago ...
thanks Charlie!
For the Parish: A Review
I got an email a few weeks ago warning me about a new book that was about to be published 'For The Parish'...The email served as a great marketing tool as I immediately went out and bought the book! In case you don't know For The Parish is a critique of Mission Shaped Church and the whole Fresh...
I will have a look! Cheers Paul.
Virtual Choir
Choirs are on the up. I know a number of people who have joined community choirs as a way of getting to know people and forming a sense of community and belonging. Anyway I came across virtual choir this morning: 185 People across 12 countries all singing along at home to their webcam. Commun...

or we're all a tad stuck and inaccurate!
I am so predictable!
I followed a link to the typealyzer, a website that indicates your personality type based on your blog posts. It indicated that I was an INTP, which is right, and here is the picture that was on the screen...worryingly it could be me!!

Delirious for No1...please God No!
So the facebook campaign has started to get Delirious to No1 for Easter. I have nothing against Delirious, I'm sure their music is very good (pleased to say that I have never listened to them - I know I'm narrow minded...) but i do struggle with the whole idea of wanting to promote a particular ...

A new blog editor for me
I finally gave up on ecto blog editor after it constantly crashed on me and I was losing posts. I hope they get ecto stabilized in the near future so that I can return to it. I have been a huge Ecto fan and a user of its predecessor Kung-Log. I have even had the pleasure if its creator Adrian com...
It may encourage 'them', or they may roll their eyes and be turned off for the rest of their lives.
Of course there is space for everyone. The redemption of the charts is, I would suggest, a sub-plot...We do need to be reminded of hope at Easter. I'm not disputing that.
This just feels like 'if we throw enough cr*p some of it is bound to stick...' ;-)

Archbishop at FX changing the landscape day.
I'm at the FX day conference that looks at the future of FX. The Archbishop has just spoken, and hre are my rambled notes if you're interested. Overarching theme – Moving into the space that is opened up by Jesus. AS FX gets more widely known it is important to remember that it is not about...
Very Good! That's truly a compliment coming from Fielding! Of course you're very welcome to use them.

40 images:40 videos:40x40 words:40 days
Lent is upon us. Over the the next 40 days I'm going to post 40 different images, 40 different video pieces and 40 different reflections. Each reflection will be 40 words long. The image and the video piece will all be from an art project that I was involved with last year called 40 days of Pu...

Banning Roadside Shrines
A few days ago the local news reported that Bolton City Council are putting a 30 day time limit on road side shrines. They want to stop permanent memorials, as they say that they are a distraction for other road users - which they probably are. People are kicking off about it and protesting, th...
My thinking is that there needs to be a space in which the conversation can happen. Synods, no are not the place for that, bit listening to one anothers stories is vitally important. I think that as soon as we start to polarise then we angle for a fight. I hope that the church is a space to listen to one another, that's when opionions are changed rather than fighting one another with our right opinions.
I hope that the church creates a space to listen to stories, rather than dogma, i need to listen to the stories of FOCA and they need to listen to my stoies. This is what I mean by debate - maybe I should have used the word dialogue - as that is a more acurate description of what i mean.
btw I'm always hopefully naive! I think of it as a good trait!
The gay debate
The debate surrounding homosexuality and church is rearing its head again...as it does fairly regularly at the moment. The two points of tension are currently the Ugandan laws on homosexuality, which are repulsive, and the election of Mary Glasspool as a Bishop in the USA. Someone commented to...
Hi Ric
Firstly, I think that the situation in Uganda in not one for debate, the laws need opposing and I wish that the archbishops would say something about it.
Secondly, I may be wrong and society is more tolerant that I think it is. I know that in the circles that I move, social-liberal, educated types then there is no debate. I'm just not sure that this is the universal view point. I'm just looking for ways of engaging with those who's views will be less tolerant.
Happy Christmas!
Ben

The Wizard of Oz and Home and Memory
Elie Wiesel has suggested that the 20th century was the age of the expatriate, the refugee, the stateless and the wandered, with Iain Chambers saying that Diaspora, Stranger and Migrancy are the dominant metaphors of our time. I read something a few years ago about the Wizard of Oz and postmode...

Cafe Church and Church in consumer culture
I had an interesting day yesterday at MTAG. Part of our day involved a presentation by Cid Latty founder of the cafe church network. Cid told us all about how this network of Churches meeting in Costa coffee had grown up all over the UK in the past few years. A great story about a person who ...
Interesting been thinking about the consumerist one a bit today. I'm not really a fan of contrasting FE with the parish system, it has the danger of idealising one at the expense of the other.
BTW - did you get into beautifulpeople.com
Questions to Graham Cray
On Friday of this week I'm part of a gathering in Manchester with Bishop Graham Cray from Fresh Expressions. As part of that time I'll be fielding questions to him. I'm looking for hard questions about the theology of Fresh Expressions, I have a few up my sleeve, but I wonder if any of you ha...
The book is based on sound quantative studies, with this conclusion coming from the disparity between the fact that between 1950 and 1980 there was a 68% rise in the happiness that teenagers said that they felt but there were increasing levels of anxiety, depression and other symptom of unhappiness during this time. What was the cause of that? The authors claim that we have an unhealthy self-esteem or threatened egotism and that one way to cope with this is to promote a level of happiness that is not really there.
They compare Japan with the USA, (Japan being the most equal and USA the most unequal in rich market economies) they claim that in Japan people are far more likely to me self-critical and put there success down to the other factors rather than themselves. Whereas in the USA people are more likely to attribute individual successes to their own ability...
One issue that I have with the study is that it is so western...
The Spirit Level and Self-Promotion
One of the things that manages to wind me more than anything else is self-promotion. Okay, I admit that on one level having a blog could be seen as a form self-promotion, so I'm probably talking to myself as much as anyone else when I write this post... I'm constantly aware of the self-promoti...
I don't think it's bad but i have a concern when our identity is so fragile that we need to big ourselves up. Surely our identity and our security should be in God.
It's also that whole I wanna be a christian celebrity thing which really winds me up, I can't see how that is glorifying to anyone other than self, and I see in Jesus a person that always pointed away from himself to the father.
I think that we're called to be signposts and far to often we can't point to ourselves rather God.

Andrew - I struggle with it to! I think that I'd prefer to hide my light that embarrassingly self-promote...I think it's simply about keeping that inner check on ourselves and being aware of it.
Janet - I know who that is!!!
