I love his philosophy as well. I was just applying it to myself today too! I came home from a friend's beautiful new home and walked into my mess of a kitchen that desperately needs a renovation and truthfully, a deep cleaning. I looked at a few mostly dead plants on the window sill, blocking the tiny bit of sunlight sneaking through... thought I needed to go buy some more plants to replace these and that this would help to cheer me up. I was thinking of his philosophy and thought, wait, no, I don't need more stuff to cheer me up, I need to take care of what I have and be here in my space NOW. Got right to cleaning, tossing a few in the compost and making space for the light to shine in. Feeling better already! Thanks for sharing your interest in his thoughts as well.

oh man (err lady), quintessential summer. Plus reading? And stitching? And picking corn? And working ridiculous hours? Have you learned how to clone yourself?

So great! The photo of the Kids Creek one is in our very own neighborhood and is now on our must-visit list when we go out for walks after dinner. I am in love with it too.

Yes, Walking to the Show. Love it! I've got a 2.5 year old who doesn't nap either. Oh joy! This past week I decided to just stop fighting about it and embrace it. Working on it... lots of afternoon "quiet time" instead... it's tough (on me!) so I know what you mean about your matching shoes. Take any success you can get!
Congratulations! Love the new venture.

Good for you for getting out with your family and unplugging for a bit!
This post made me smile - happiness IS contagious. I couldn't agree more with your perspective. I'm currently reading Simplicity Parenting - have you read it? Same wavelength... Three cheers for slowing down, underscheduling, playing and having lots of unstructured exploratory time at home and in the natural world. Thanks for the beautiful reminder!
I didn't realize your arms were so hairy, Melissa!

I love this Friday ritual. Here is our brief moment in time, beating the heat in the bustling metropolis of northern Michigan... Happy weekend, all!

Gasp! What a beautiful photo! I'm inspired to share a moment in time captured at our first beach day this year on Lake Michigan. Hard to believe it even happened this week because I'm back in a wool sweater and a scarf. Sigh. But here's our lovely proof anyway:

I wanted to let you know that I love your blog and am sitting here with a steamy beverage at the butt crack of dawn, happily reading away and lusting after the color in your images. The funny thing to me is that I do not knit. I'm terrible at it. My therapist would say, be careful the stories you tell yourself. But I digress. What I love the most is your ebullient passion for it. This is contagious and what brings me back, mug in hand, at 5:15 a.m.! XO
