May I add Lago d'Orta to the mix? Small, but beautiful.
Weekend Leisure
I saw "The Little Things" with Denzel Washington and others. Solid cast, well done.
if "All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten", then why bother with education after that?

Your Children, Their Politics
Further to this item here, Rafi steers us to more “equity” news, this time from the public high schools of San Francisco: Lowell [High School] has for decades admitted students based on a score that takes into account grade-point average and test results while setting aside a limited number of...
My teen was accepted to Lowell for this year but chose a parochial school alternative instead. More $$ from us, but evidently dodged a bullet.

Her Restless Mind
Time for another visit to the pages of Scary Mommy, a publication for progressive mothers, and where Ms Christine Organ has a problem: For years, I’ve known that I have trouble sitting still, that I find projects and things to fret over. I need to literally schedule time to binge watch TV, and ...
Turning Luton into Karachi, Malmo into Mogadishu, and Los Angeles into Guadalajara
When I hear this I immediately wonder if they also plan to turn Karachi into Luton, Mogadishu into Malmo, and Guadalajara into Los Angeles? In which case, what does that achieve? (And if not, why not?)
Difficult Questions, Carefully Avoided
In the UK in the last census, it turned out that people who identified as white British were a minority in 23 out of the 33 boroughs in London. Now, if you were born in the 1960s, say, which isn’t that long ago, this means a total transformation of the capital city of the country you’re in. I su...

Friday Ephemeraren’t
Yes, a chance to throw together your own pile of links and oddities in the comments. I’ll set the ball rolling with a photoshoot of note; some questionable signage; via Perry, what to do in a crisis; a breakthrough in the world of cosmetics; fun with rope; a rationalisation in progress; and a he...

Further Lamentations Of Unstable Leftist Women
The Other Half thinks that some of you may be amused by this. Previously. Update, via the comments: Joan asks, drily, “Is it performance art?” Well, in a manner of speaking, I suppose it is. It’s all rather performative and narcissistic, and the theatrical breathlessness is presumably for the ...

Plenty Of Blame To Go Around
Ross Douthat ruminates on how much blame for the COVID debacle should be shouldered by Trump. He mentions the February testing debacle at the CDC and the slow-walking of Emergency Use Authorizations by the FDA and links to a ProPublica piece. The NY Times and the WaPo had similar coverage and a ...

"Also, our wonderful governor said that bars and restaurants closing are not his fault. He said something akin to -Customers aren’t going to these places, and that’s why they closed -"
That's not entirely untrue - though it's pure (mendacious) deflection. For example: i, for one, won't go to a bar/restaurant that imposes social distancing BS - just as I refuse to take a flight with a mask mandate.

Nope. The "lockdown" did, not the pandemic.

"race beats class"
"white people are born with inherent privilege that they enjoy regardless of material circumstances"
Yes, that's probably right.
However, those propositions - which i agree are BS but are worthy of being addressed, are utterly unrelated from the words he uses in his question set up with PDT. Listen again: he doesn't say any such thing; he simply says 'given the material prosperity we were born into .. we have white privilege.'
Irrational, of course - but why does he not see that?

And, of course, I understand that real advantage for any kid is not simply a function of parental wealth but, rather, parental quality. But once you recognize that, then the route to 'equalizing privilege' - to the extent that proper humility recognizes that to be attainable - has to do primarily with improving the quality of parenting.
And as we know, almost every Democrat policy measure to date has worked precisely against that goal.
The leftists, perhaps, recognize this - in that their not-so-secret desire seems to be to say 'get rid of parenting by mom and dad, and leave this to us.'

i mean seriously - is Woodward simply too dumb to understand that the children of Quincy Jones, Steph Curry, Obama, Robert Johnson, etc etc are more privileged than my own?

Porch - honest question: is Woodward really idiotic enough to not understand that if he has a "privileged" background ('advantaged' would be more accurate, I'd say) that describing this as "white" privilege (as opposed to just "privileged") serves no meaningful or coherent purpose?

Some media fell hook, line and sinker for the Clinton/DNC information campaign -- CNN, WP, NYT, NBC among them. They are understandably embarrassed to cover the real story. But they should. Better late than never.
