This book sounds great! I'd love to start cooking with less meat and more vegetables!

Good question, Karen! I'm not sure, as I didn't try the chili myself. My recommendation would be to head over and try it!

I’m a rather new follower to Luisa Weiss’s blog, The Wednesday Chef, but I’m likely no less an ardent reader than many of her long-time fans. When her book, My Berlin Kitchen, came out this fall, and I happened to... Continue reading

For as many bars as there are in Istanbul, there have never been any pubs. Not until now, anyway. Now that the Bosphorus Brewing Company has opened, Istanbul has its first and very own family-owned and -run English pub, complete... Continue reading

I am ALWAYS on a quest to find good, crispy pide in Izmir! So far, no luck! I'm not a fan of the Izmir sandwiches. I think you mean the Ayvalik tost? Too much hot dog for my tastes! :)

In the past year, I've travelled to Istanbul countless times, cooked and baked some amazing food, drank Guiness in Ireland with my in-laws, spent a raucuous weekend in Bodrum with friends, visited London for the first time with my best... Continue reading

Ah, but my current driver's license is from Kansas, so I need to switch to PA and thus prove residency. :(

Wow, that's a lot of times to be called for jury duty! I'm not so concerned about not having a driver's license anymore really. If you can't change the situation, the only other option is accepting it, isn't it? :)

True, who needs driving anyway?! The only reason I really wanted it -- to be honest -- is the awful thought of taking another driving test if I ever do want/need a license!

A couple of weeks ago a summons for jury duty arrived at my parents' house for me. This was surprising to me for two main reasons: 1) I've actually never been called for jury duty, which is surprising in that... Continue reading

Last week over breakfast I decided that taking yourself out to breakfast -- solo -- must be one of the world's most underrated activities. There's lots of articles about taking yourself out to lunch, or dinner, but breakfast? Simply not... Continue reading

It is a sad fact that not all Turkish food is good in Turkey. I'm sure it must be like that everywhere. There must be, of course, lackluster croissants in France and fair to middlin' paella in Spain. But I... Continue reading

Very true, there isn't much in the way of sights and museums that cost as little as 2 TL anymore! I totally loved the floor tiles too. I thought they were Moroccan at first, but they apparently came from Italy.

Hi Amy! Miniaturk is pretty cute, isn't it? I had no idea I would like it when I first went, but I was pleasantly surprised. And yes, I agree with you -- when you live here there is absolutely nothing wrong with a bit of seeking out your own culture every once in a while, even when it comes to hotels!
