Amanda, I love you. I KNOW you and you inspire me every single day. You are courageous and honest and you do it all without "hired help" or without dwelling on the negative. I wish more people could focus on the positive...what a world this would be. I know that I, for one, am so very happy and grateful that you are in my world. So much love. xo
four little kittens
There's been a little action in my studio this week. Not from me. And there's been a birth here this week. Also not me. As Adelaide tells the story, her cat Piper marched into the house on Easter morning, on a mission. Heading straight to my studio, and a soft and cozy basket full of precio...
This made me cry. I have never lived in a house longer than 3 years so I have no idea what it must be like to pack up and move away. It's wonderful looking at all those photos. But just think of all the memories you will make, and are making, in your new home! xo
goodbye/hello
Eight years ago this very month, Steve, an 18month old Calvin, our two pups and I, moved into this house. This house we have called home ever since. That winter, we cozied into the space and made it ours in preparation of all the growing and changing that our lives had in ...
Delurking here to say your blog brings me pleasure :)

Ten simple things bringing me great joy right now: :: my Little Boy Forager. :: his (thrifted) style. :: his too. :: her seriousness in "saving the food for winter!!" :: kid projects, in progress, scattered everywhere in our house. :: baby nieces in need of handmades ...

Sneak Peek: The De-Stash Stash
If you have been in the shop recently you may have noticed that I have been a little stressed. I have a a good excuse! I've inventoried, priced and labeled all the wonderful yarn that has been donated for the De-Stash Do Good event! That's over 700 items! (And that's in addition to all the ...

her shirts
{As an aside, the Chocolate Cake from The Art of Simple Food by is quickly becoming my new stand-by. Yum.} You'll have to bear with me for just one more birthday post, because I have to share with you these ridiculously fun shirts we made. I mentioned last week that the boys had seen Amy Karol...

thoughts on the eve of September
For breakfast on Saturday we had apple pie. Not just any apple pie, but the very last apple pie of the 2008 harvest season. Last fall, in my near-baby-nesting-harvesting frenzy, a whole lot of pie filling was frozen. And oh, we have enjoyed that pie all year long. I spaced them out carefully...
cal is looking so big...and darn cute. i love that you took him to the baseball game. i think that will be a memory he will cherish forever. xo
savoring summer
This weekend.... I followed summer to Hadlock Field for a date with my boy. (Photos by Calvin & Mama) There were signed baseballs, ballpark food (oh my), game plays described in great detail by my date, foggy fields, really great seats (thank you Uncle Steve &...

the party!
{photos courtesy of the lovely Jennifer Judd-McGee and Brandie Mayes.} I try not to post photos of people who haven't agreed to such, which make party photos always a little...well, funny...and also sparse! But here are just a few from Friday night's HANDMADE HOME celebration at Long...

HANDMADE HOME :: ezra's letter satchel
*** *** *** Thanks so much for all of your words these past few days - they've been so nice to read. Before we move on from HANDMADE HOME, I want to round out the week telling you about just a few more favorite projects in the book. (And a note for those of you waiting on books from my shop - th...
well, that is just brilliant.
for handkerchiefs
I love the way in which crafting things for 'home' can truly impact the most basic, simple and mundane everyday moments - adding just a bit of comfort in the form of something handmade. Washcloths. Diapers. Quilts. I'm definitely drawn to utilitarian, functional home sewing like that. And this...
happy birthday, steve! we feel very blessed to know you. very blessed, indeed.
40!
Today, we've got some celebrating to do. Because this sweet, happy little boy? Today he's forty!! I met Steve just days after his 30th birthday (and I thought he was 'old' - ahem). He was full of adventures, tales of travels, and a sparkle in his blue eyes that told me his adventuring ha...
i am so glad you've embraced this space...because it is lovely.
Creative Space : Studio 2.0
I thought we'd take a little tour inside my work space today, if you'd like. It's taken me a while to take many pictures of it - truth be told, because it's taken me a while to really like it. But I do. I really like it. Even (or, especially) when Adelaide calls it my "funny little porch room...
um...wow. those are incredible! can we come over for a class?
family stamps
On days at home with all these sweet little ones, when it's raining, when we're in a funk, and/or when all else fails? We go to the art store (locals, we looove Artist & Craftsman!), where sometimes all it takes is a 'fancy new pen' for everyone to shift their thinking and get...
love that bag! and those bits of yellow...nice.
just a bit of yellow
Well, I suppose it was only natural that after all that orange - just one day after making that funny little bag - that I made myself this one. A bit of palate-cleansing, perhaps? It's as simple as a bag can be, really. I've had this vintage linen piece, with the text stamped onto it...
much love to you, soulepapa.
SoulePapa Blogs :: Since Last We Met
Since last we met, I saw a boy that didn't feel well refuse to stay out of his last baseball game of the season. He played, and we exchanged knowing looks as the chills crept into his little body. He went home and straight to bed. He fell asleep with his game shirt on... I saw an almost four ...
You are such a good person. Love you!
(and i know you want to keep that hat...just a little, right?)
many, many hats
{Dr. Telemaque of the Caps Haitien project, introducing the Safe Birthing Kits. Photo courtesy of Konbit Sante.} I've just posted two very special notes from Haiti on the Mama to Mama website. Do check them out when you have a chance - they are beautiful, as are all of the contributions that ...

and i love the bit about your grampie. so sweet. xo
the grampie sweater
Last night, I put those new buttons on Harper's new sweater. It's the Baby Sophisticate sweater (created by, and available for free on Stockinette). Knit all in one piece, from the top down. And with an aran weight yarn (this is Mission Falls 1824 wool), it was a super fast knit (I started...
sounds like the perfect day. does this mean something was finished that requires buttons...hmmm?
a button hunt
So it rained yesterday...thereby nixing our plans for a backyard sit-stay pool-knit vacation-at-home action. Instead, we turned the day into a treasure hunt - the search for The Perfect Buttons. ("Perhaps my favorite kind of treasure hunt, Mama!" Seriously, that girl.) When The Buttons weren'...

coming soon :: going now
coming:: Look, look - Handmade Home! My early copies have just arrived, which means your copies are right around the corner! The official publication date remains August 11th , but I'm guessing (not promising!) they might be headed your way a bit sooner than that even. You can find Handmad...

The fairies of thrifting threw a little sunshine my way yesterday. Yellow!
amanda, you're brilliant. that skirt is the absolute best. and i know i say this often, but i really would wear one in my size. it's so great!
dress, reconstructed
Remember this dress? I posted about it here a few months ago. It turns out it really was too small (Heather's got great pattern errata up now, so if I made the dress again, we'd be all set). Adelaide just couldn't get it on and off easily..and so it sat. But, really. That fabric is just too p...

the cool days of June
{photo by Calvin} We're in (the middle of) a long stretch of rain around these parts. A really long stretch. (I just read that temps in the Northeast are running 10 to 20 degrees below average. Yup, that sounds right.) While the plants in the garden are slightly stunted, the rain coats...
that is some serious papa loot! looove the yoga bag.
a weekend - and a bag - for Papa
Despite the rain dampening all beach & boat plans, I'd say we did alright making a celebratory weekend for our special Papa. Chocolate cake, baseball, hammock hangouts, and rainy walks. Oh, and a little bit of handmade lovin' too. Art, poetry, a handmade baseball bat, and...a new y...
oh goodness me. he is way too cute. i can't handle it...it's been too long!!!
crafting for food
Will you look at who's decided it's time to eat? I tried telling him it wasn't time. I tried telling him he wasn't missing anything. And then I got more insistent and told him that his role as fourth baby was to stay a baby. That he should stop this request for food, this demand to craw...
