I have added a small dish of my own-more about color and the feel of autumn as it finally flows over South Texas-than words this time around! You can find it here: http://milagroroots.tumblr.com/ Thank you for posting this Terri-after being gone for ten years I moved back home to San Antonio in 2009-its a mixed blessing being in Texas-but it does feel right at this time.

I love her ritual of placing a bowl of water on the desk and lighting a candle when she begins to write-creating the space of Angels for herself-beautiful and so needed this morning.

What would you do if you were not afraid? What a galvanizing question to which their are so many possible answers-there is what we would create, say, learn about, and teach. There are the people we would finally forgive, the situations we would finally let go of, the anger that we need to feel or the anger that needs to die-perfect thing to get the wheels turning this morning!

Terri-I love how you keep your tool box clean-working with a specific medium-in your case those lovely oil paints while at the same time recognizing how many mediums there are for art making. When I bring that awareness to whatever I am doing-whether its cooking, lighting a candle, kissing my husband, or playing with my son, it infuses it with depth and meaning-and makes me (I hope!) just a wee bit more mindful!

I love the first quote-how Alan Garner weaves truth into symbol and symbol into myth and myth back into truth-yes!

I first heard this quote earlier this summer at a writing workshop led by Natalie Goldberg and Wendy Johnson-they were talking about the quote and the way that it resonated with their conception of writing as a practice just as Zen sitting is a practice. I feel that the truth is why I personally write, but the meat is in the telling and a story cannot simply be, this now is the truth...we have to take a winding road, a long journey, eat a few apples before we get there-otherwise we won't catch it.

I am totally late to the party but I love what Katherine Langrish said! Things don't write themselves, do themselves, make themselves-and on the tough days that can be enough to inspire me to trudge through. I also recall my clients. Its very clear to me I am in a service industry-and I want to be of service-and that requires me to show up every day whether I feel like it or not. My clients inspire me to fo the work when nothing else does!
