Hi, thanks for writing this. BTW your link to the Net Promoter blog in para 3 is broken.
An alternative to project management is product management. I am thinking project managers integrate across teams (and products) and product managers are focused on growing their products to meet/exceed market demands. On a smaller scale this is the voice of the customer. So - project management might be the answers in some contexts, but there are other answers in other places.

I thought Convey's law was more about the client org structure and that the Dec team's structure was secondary. Certainly looks that way when I look around.

I'm also a fan. Love it and use the ideas as often as possible.

Another positive outcome of being precise is that it's less likely to mess with an estimate. For example; "A performance report is generated monthly" requires more or less the same development effort as a weekly one, but with "A performance report that is published either weekly, fortnightly or monthly, as determined next phase of the project" it's harder for a report developer to estimate the development work. Just sayin'

Check this post which mentions coordination neglect as a failure mode http://eight2late.wordpress.com/2010/10/01/six-ways-in-which-project-estimates-go-wrong/

It +looks+ like satire (but I know...) Have you seen the Luke Wilson movie 'Idiocracy' yet?

That's such a clearer way of putting it. That was the point I was muddling around.
