Valentine's Day is upon us again and the question make or to buy the school valentines? Since I only have one kid left doing a valentine exchange I felt a little pressure to make. And by "make" I mean make her happy. Kailyn is absolutely obsessed with Minecraft these... Continue reading

My husband crafted me a dining table for my birthday out of wood. It is a great table...and it makes me laugh how one project can lead right into another and before you know it you have a whole new dining room. However, this table really did need a lazy... Continue reading

If you know me, it is no secret I love everything Brave Girls Club. I am enrolled in The Walk right now and I am really enjoying the class. Here is a video explaining it: I've found that Melody touches on a lot of things that I seem to connect... Continue reading

I have neglected my blog for a few months for so many reasons. I could go on and on with the excuses and reasons but the bottom line is they are just that...excuses. So without complaining about my problems and busy-ness, I am just going to dig right in. My... Continue reading

I have had this mirror from Pier 1 as long as I can remember. I have always loved it, but lately I have felt that it just needed a pop of color or something. I am on a painting kick and anything that isn't attached to the structure of the... Continue reading

I am very busy collecting website domains...I currently own and Today I would like to announce the arrival of my latest domain:! I have been designing things here and there on the side for a few companies, but recently a push from a friend led me down... Continue reading

Due to my complete and utter fascination with Pinterest, I have recently become obsessed with pallets. I have been on the lookout for one of these magical wooden craft-tastic pieces of happiness. I am too shy to go to the back of the grocery store by the loading dock and... Continue reading

My buddy Melissa and I did another urban race over the weekend (like the Amazing race). There were eleven clues to this one (one of which was a photo hunt). The race started at the Gingerman Pub. Check in was at 11, and the race started at noon. So...this is... Continue reading

Last weekend my brother and I participated in the Foam Fest 5k. Kailyn had several soccer games that day, so I asked Kyle if he would like to join us. He was a little reluctant at first ("I don't want to run 3 miles!"), but given the chance to get... Continue reading

Kyle has been very busy with his 6th grade service project and I couldn't be more proud. He chose a charity called Heroes on the Water. They are an organization that helps wounded warriors (injured military personnel) relax, rehabilitate and reintegrate with society through kayak fishing and the outdoors. Kyle... Continue reading

This weekend, my neighbor and I participated in the City Solve Dallas Urban Race. Melissa is my geocaching buddy, so we knew this type of scavenger hunt race would be right up our alley and that we would make a great team. These races are kind of like The Amazing... Continue reading

Our Spring Break came early this year. I had planned ahead thank goodness and rented an amazing little place called "Inspiration Point" off Homeaway. I am all about rental houses these days. I love the freedom it gives you to cook your own meals and really make yourself at home.... Continue reading

I recently attended a dear friend's Rat Pack themed 50th birthday party. This kind of party calls for some costuming and a themed gift, of course. I will start with the gift because my friend Faye and I had a blast making it. We decided to go with filled record... Continue reading

Since posting the packing tape transfer my daughter and her friend did on Instagram, several of you have asked me how the heck I did it. I Googled it, that's how. There are amazing tutorials out there, but I followed this one. I know how amazing I am at reexplaining... Continue reading

I have been very busy learning some new techniques and playing around in my journal. I have decided this is the year of Learning. Last year was the year of Living where I went to a concert or cultural event each month (sometimes several in a month), but this will... Continue reading

Yesterday was a good day.Tuesday is one of our easier days as far as activities go. The only after school activity is drum lessons for my boy, so this is an afternoon that Kailyn and I get to spend together while he is "shredding" (my son would be proud if... Continue reading

I think I may be finished with the guitar. You should probably know that I have said this several times throughout the process of doodling on it and then I add "just one more thing". I have a feeling it is done until I break a string tuning it and... Continue reading

I can relate 150%. Thanks for the honest post. I think you will find a lot of people feel this way. I'm starting to get grumpy about days like today because of the pressure (I must have posted my blog entry on the subject 5 minutes before you). You are right, this is on us...not the kids. Kailyn would be happy making all her own Valentines. We just finished the Wax Museum project as well and I had to let go of my control on that one too. At one point Kailyn said "Mom, this is MY project, let me do it". That was a rude awakening for me. She is right. How will we raise creative kids if we force our own thoughts and creativity on them and trump theirs? Truthfully, she will never think she has the lamest project because she thinks everything she makes is awesome. I love that about her and I have to remind myself that this is what is important. Any feelings of worry are my own...not hers. Thanks for posting this. I am in your corner.
In all honestly, I’m not really feeling Valentine’s Day this year. I never thought I’d be one of the bah-humbug types that ramble on and on about it being a silly made-up holiday created by Hallmark, but this year I am just kind of feeling that way. Maybe it’s just... Continue reading

We've had so much going on here that sometimes I just feel completely and utterly overwhelmed. My guitar art is almost stay tuned for that. In the meantime we have had all the usual craziness that requires a mother to run a full time taxi service. I drive 40... Continue reading

Lately it seems like there is very little time in the day and this is when I have to remind myself about making time. Some days the cleaning can just wait. Yeah, I said it. I don't care if my house is immaculate. I mean, would be awesome if... Continue reading

I learned a new word: zentangle. What is a zentangle, you ask? In a word, a doodle. A structured, contained doodle. Well that's what it says here, anyway. I am trying to figure out if I should start referring to my doodles as zentangles for the sole sake of being... Continue reading

So, remember how I said I was going to get my paints out and paint something? Never happened. For some reason I have decided it would be a good idea to start doodling on my guitar with Sharpies. Crazy? Maybe. I don't care. It's my guitar. It's going to take... Continue reading

I have been doodling and doodling and doodling. I have been so inspired by Melody Ross lately. Not just her art, but her humanitarian efforts as well. She is truly inspirational!I should probably use another word besides "inspiration" and "inspirational" because I notice I use those a lot, but I... Continue reading
