Look at those expressions! First the that moment of surprise, then the open mouthed "WOW! I'm really doing this" and finally the "did that really just happen, or did I imagine it"
Well done, Shuma, stepping out in style!
Stepping in style
And now for a very special episode of Fashion Show, documenting a major milestone in Shuma's development. And he did it in style, wearing brand-new duds sent from his grandma for his birthday. This was the first time for him to wear long sleeves and long pants since our trip to Canada, so as...
He sure is growing up and he is so handsome.
Shark Patrol
It's getting harder and harder to take pictures of Shuma. If I try to get his attention with silly faces or a toy then he spazzes out and the picture is just a blur of waving limbs. If I try to take a more candid shot, he'll notice the camera right away and turn into a space cadet, staring bla...
Loved this post. Reminded me of the time a woman in the supermarket asked me what my celeriac was called and what I would do with it.
Also reminded me of the old gent feeding the herons opposite the Ann Frank House in Amsterdam. My sister-in-law had a long conversation with him (she speaks Dutch, I do not). When I asked her what he had said she replied that his accent was so thick she hardly understood a word he'd said.
BTW, what is a grackle?
A Year of Wildlife
On our walk yesterday Shuma and I saw tonnes of birds, including two snowy egrets, lots of ducks, and exactly twenty-four ducklings. One mommy duck had twelve babies! Is it even possible for a duck to lay and successfully hatch a dozen eggs at once? Or was she babysitting? I don't know, but they...
Very pleased to hear that you are all safe. I hope that you and Hideaki are reunited soon and able to travel to the in-laws. Thoughts and prayers are with you.
Earthquake
**Update: Just thought I'd check in and let you know we're still OK. Aftershocks are still coming but here in Tokyo they're very mild. We're well-stocked in anticipation of rolling blackouts, and happen to have a very good number of emergency evacuation shelters nearby if it comes to that. Somew...
He is still the centre of attention here. It was a year ago that we first heard about Shuma, in a very tiny hint :-)
It is clear that this has been a wonderful year for you. I hope the coming year brings more wonder and joy to you and the two most important men in your life.
Christmas Elf
Meet Santa's newest elf. His main jobs are cooing and being cute, but he also manages to get in a lot of drooling and burping. < He also likes to ride around town trying to spread Christmas cheer, but the folks in my neighborhood are becoming increasingly hard to impress and he failed to che...
You probably already know this but your little man is soooooo handsome.
Hadagi
Here is Shuma in his hadagi. Hadagi is the general term for "undergarments" and for babies usually refers to a white kimono-like robe. I had no idea how and when to use hadagi at first (in fact all baby clothes confused me in the beginning) and I had him wearing them all day long, usually insi...
Just this very morning I was wondering how you all are doing. I can see that you are doing handsomely :-) How cool does Shuma look in his shades?
Fashion Show
With a baby that seems to want to nurse all day long, I've had to learn how to do everything one-handed. I can manage to use a computer, even type a little, but I don't see any wordy posts in the near future so I think I'll just put up pictures for a while. And since we've been fortunate enough ...
Welcome, Shuma James, so pleased that you made it safely into this world and are back home with Mum and Dad.
Congratulations Amy and Hideaki! Your son is adorable!
Shuma James
Meet Shuma James Nakazawa. He was born September 20th, weighing 3854 grams and measuring 50 centimetres- a big, healthy boy. He had a little trouble breathing though and had to be taken to hospital, where he was kept for a week. We were sad to be apart but he got lots of love and care from the...
Hi Sandy, welcome to the world of blogging. I look forward to seeing lots of your lovely work here.
