Nice review. It's interesting that 2003 is generally considered a 'lesser' year, rather lost between the more touted years of 2001, 2005, and 2007. Of course, the wines are barely into their drinking window this year, at 12 years past harvest. Rather reminds me of 1973, which was a fine, very long lived year, lost between the magnificent 1970 vintage (2nd only to 1941 in the 20th century) and the highly praised 1974s. Well-stored top 1970s are still drinking well, if past peak, and, sadly the 1974s were fading by the late 1980s. I had 1973s which drank very well as late as 2004, but they are much faded now and only interesting for a very few minutes. Not yet dead, though.
