Hi Sarah, This Fox article has really upset me too. Every day in the news we come across violence towards women and I feel the same as you. I think, oh god, here I go again posting links or sending links to Alison on murders or rapes on women! But it's so vital we do and that's why I am proud to be part of WVoN. The extend of what goes on in the so called 'developed' world versus 'developing' world sometimes goes unnoticed when it comes to violence and rapes. As I read the Fox report what was reinforced was my belief rape is always something 'women' need to inform themselves of to 'keep themselves' safe. For example at a festival in the UK where 2 women were raped the organiser then gave guidance on how women can keep themselves 'safe'. Ugh, well how about if more messages were given to men that rape and abuse women would not be tolerated in the first place. What next, guidance on how to take out rubbish? What also struck me about this was the mention of ages of the rapists. This is what we are breeding here, a section of the male population that think it's 'their right' to rape. I recently was having an online conversion about the rapes and murders of women in Juarez, Mexico (MAC story). One male blogger told me to basically get off my high feminist horse (in so many words) that all men were not rapists. He was having a go at me and few other women for setting up a petition, calling us 'spineless western feminists'. I told him he was better off setting up his own petition to educate the male gender not to beat and rape women in the first place, perhaps then the world would have progress on this. And that for me is what is missing from all these stories and horrendous crimes. Where in the world are the education and awareness programs for men (and in this case young boys) NOT to rape in the first place! I don't and haven't heard of any. If you or anyone knows of any, please let me know. In the meantime, I will remain on my very comfortable ‘high horse’, on this subject, feminist or not. I know this story was not an easy one to post and you are right, it just speaks for itself... x

Hmmm, well there was a UK doc a few years ago where a male escort service was set up... His aim was to attract 'high flying' older women. Lots of very successful business women were interviewed (all ages) and the whole concept of paying for sex was just absurd to them. Needless to say the male escort and his services never took off. But yet again, in this article we have a portrayal that 'older' women who like younger men have to pay for sex. Basically saying they wouldn't otherwise be able to attract the man of their choice, no matter how amazing there were. Which begs the question, how old do you have to be to classed a 'cougar'? hmmm.. awful term! Thanks for posting that story, I've RT'd it! x

What struck me about this article was 'main clientele would probably be "cougars" who are older women who are attracted to and have sex with younger men. (charming) What is she saying here? That 'older' women who can't 'get it' will have to resort to paying for sex? That's how it's come across to me.
