Record dominoes 9: PIOMAS sea ice volume
The people from PIOMAS have done an extra data release (there'll be another one next week for all of the August data). This data shows us that yet another record domino has fallen, after so many others already. This is one of the biggest dominoes out there, especially now that observational data...
The name of second glacier in my previous commentary is not correct. I find in the article “Recent changes on Greenland outlet glaciers” (Fig. 11) the correct name: Bistrup glacier
After corrections :
North-East Greenland: begin of splitting between Storstrommen glacier and Bistrup glacier

Twemoran, i think that you made reference to the "Kong Christian IV Gletscher"
You can look in "Greenland flow variability from ice-sheet-wide velocity mapping” Journal of Glaciology, Vol. 56, No. 197, 2010
ASI 2012 update 5: when graphs agree
During the melting season I'm writing (bi-)weekly updates on the current situation with regards to Arctic sea ice (ASI). Central to these updates are the daily IJIS sea ice extent (SIE) and Cryosphere Today sea ice area (SIA) numbers, which I compare to data from the 2005-2011 period (NSIDC ha...
Two break (day 164 and today => 6 day) for break up all Amundsen Gulf!!
Northwest Passage still chock-full of ice
The season of contrasts continues. The conclusion after the freezing season that the ice on the Atlantic/Siberian side of the Arctic looked vulnerable and the ice on the Pacific/Canadian-Alaskan side of the Arctic should be thicker than usual, is extending itself into the melting season: Whereas...
Today big break in the Amundsen Gulf (and little in Mc Clure Strait)

Peter you are right for the "double century» (I have noted the correction of number every day) but the important is not the number of the day, bat the tendency on many days (and this not change a lot after corrections) and the tendency is very bad at the moment

Barentsz and Kara
I had grown accustomed to writing Barentsz Sea without the Z, as everyone does. But I've decided to no longer scorn my Dutch roots. The Barentsz Sea has been named after Willem Barentszoon, a Dutch explorer and cartographer who died looking for an open Northeast Passage (now known as the Northe...
Hi,
Above all sorry for my webcam real time picture (and not archived picture) and damned morning fog..
Now the fog is out and the extern strip of the fast ice seems vanished (it is only a webcam picture and this is not absolutely clear)
Peter, I know that the webcam is in Barrow town and for this I used a question form “?!” (and also because the quality of information : webcam picture)

Very good blog and sorry for my English
Barrow Break-up 3
This blog post was preceded by Barrow Break-up 1 and Barrow Break-up 2 (both containing more general info). The Sea Ice Group of the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has been issuing break-up forecasts for almost three weeks now. Their current forecast is for the groun...

SIE 2011 update 6: unperturbed
During the melting season I'm regularly writing updates on the current sea ice extent (SIE) as reported by IJIS (a joint effort of the International Arctic Research Center and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) and compare it to the sea ice extents in the period 2005-2010. NSIDC has a good ...
