Well, my sisters and I are now very close and thats the hope Im holding on to. I dream of leisurely Thanksgiving lunches with my grown children all around me, everyone laughing and getting along! Thanks for all the encouragement and inspiration to look beyond today.

Abby - for Footies, head to Target. I was on the same quest and found a whole bunch there. What's with the footies though, I don't get it, my daughter gets so hot in them she ends up waking up half-naked in the morning. If it's any consolation to you, Christmas is now 6 days away and I'm nowhere near done. Every year is the same story. I'd like to start in June... but I think I would lose it all. So I now feel guilty about not only being a procrastinator but also having a messy home!

Abby, I don't know where you came up with that picture of George, but it's definitely a keeper. I might have to put it up on my fridge to make my husband jealous! Seriously though, I think you should just repel that George voice and trust that the other adults in your family will applaud your decision this year. George may not have understood, but Jerry would have!

Tracy, Your post reminded me of when I used to walk my first born through the Metropolitan Museum of Art when she was one. I would talk to her about the paintings and just let her bask in the gorgeous Monet pastels and the colorful Picassos. I remember other visitors staring at me as though I was a madwoman, talking to myself, but she would coo and react to certain pieces more than others. Kids should be exposed to art and I hope that someone at the gallery noticed your son's presence and rethought the inappropriate movie for future exhibits. Vanessa

Dawn, I feel like I was one of those people when I first met you, but my reaction really came from awe and respect and a healthy dose of curiosity. I've tried to be Bella's French teacher and found it so hard to get her to listen to me that I eventually gave up. Every few months I get all gung ho and get started again with the French, but the hectic rhythm of our lives always seems to get in the way. But now my younger two seem to be much more interested so there may be hope after all. It seems a lot depends on the learning style of a particular child and your chemistry with that child. Vanessa

Last week, my three year old came home singing like a Sopranos cast member. "Godda Father. Gotta father. GOTTA FATHER!" My ears were peaked by her strange song. I found it hard to believe that the staff at her new... Continue reading

I don't know if this is valid for the IMAX in New Jersey but I hope so... because we're so excited to see this sequel. The first one was so creative and fun. Favorite museum was when I used to trawl the halls of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, narrating the works to my 9 month old as people moved away from me, obviously a crazy lady. Didn't they realize that I was busy enriching my child's mind?

Lori, The juxtaposition of your idyllic morning drive to school with the threat of child pornography rings is chilling and brings home even more clearly the dangers of Pilot's proposal. Beautifully written post about a very important issue. Vanessa

I think that all these attempts to neatly confine us into one little box is just a sign of the fear of the growing influence we're wielding online. Calling us "soccer moms" as though we're all one and the same makes us seem a lot less powerful.

The force was strong with us this weekend. The movie lived up to the hype. And Luke was even more gorgeous than I remembered! But Princess Leia's hair... not so much.

Good to know! I won't be asking for ice anytime soon. I can't get the image of the black specks in the ice or how mouse would taste. Yuck!

I love the thought of the Mom Cave! What I'm really dreaming of is my own bathroom. Now THAT would be a cave I could crawl into for some serious mommy time.

I always find that THOSE moms are the ones trying hard to cover something up. The best thing you can do for your child is to go with what you feel is right in your gut. What's right for others is not what's right for your child. My strategy when those moms get going on how talented, great, and special their kid is? I start talking about Lost or Desperate Housewives.

Melissa, I'm on the edge of my seat. You have to let us know as soon as you hear! I love how honest you are. For my third, I really wanted a girl (although I had one of each) - I wanted my oldest to have a sister. People were a little taken aback when I admitted my preference, but I think that you might as well be honest. Vanessa

I feel your pain. My son was so tough to get to sleep. When you say "Ferberize" did you do it with the book or did you just let him "cry it out"? I found that the Ferber book was so structured that it was actually helpful to have a method to apply to the madness.

What a hilarious post. My cards are sitting in a box, gathering guilt as each day goes by. Good for you for sticking to your decision - even after a brief relapse!
