The people feigning outrage here that Mr. Page isn't outraged deserve the same response Liz Cheney got from George Will yesterday on ABC... Mr. Will turned to Ms. Cheney and sternly said... "That's ridiculous."

Recently there was an actual act of ugly racism (as opposed to this teapot tempest) in Plains GA, when sadly some poor fool hung the president in Effigy. I had a letter published in the Athens GA paper on the subject which i'd like to share... Chip Shirley: Obama effigy was 'racist crime' Regarding the Associated Press report on the hanging in effigy of President Obama in Plains, the rural South Georgia home of President Jimmy Carter (Story, "Secret Service looking into Obama effigy," Monday), people can act as if this wasn't a racist crime committed in Georgia, but everybody knows the truth. If it weren't for the history of slavery and lynching of African Americans in Georgia and the Southeastern United States, these little iconic acts of hate wouldn't mean what they clearly do mean, which is to sanction racism, bigotry and lawlessness. Many years ago, I found out about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy while riding the bus home from third grade at my all-white Greenville, S.C., school. I was sitting toward the rear of the bus, and heard the driver leading the kids up front in some kind of song. It took a minute to make out the words, and then they became chillingly clear. They were singing, "The n----- lover's dead" over and over again. It makes me sick to think there are those out there who want to sing that song again. Chip Shirley
