That was brilliant Tilly. Thank you for explaining how to use Transfer Artists Paper. I must get some and try it out for myself.
Can I ask Tilly a couple of questions?
Do you think I could use it on a pillowcase?
Were there any colours which worked better than others?
How long did the paper need ironing for?
Pam, I think Lesley Riley should see Tilly in action. She might need to keep her eye out for this young lady.
Tilly's Craft video for you.
Tilly's crafting day. Tilly has been a crafter since her Mum gave her a roll of sticky tape aged 1. Before she could walk she was out in my studio, pulling the fabric out of the drawers. With her beloved sticky tape, she stuck everything to everything... on the TV, on the table on me....
Your quilting journeys are fascinating but I'm not sure that many will be as interesting as the Bayeux. The viking ship is so detailed. I cannot wait for the unveiling of the masterpiece. I eagerly await every post of its progress.
Dawn, Drama and delight.
Dawn, By far, the best time of the day. I got used to 'Dawns' many years ago. There was a family asleep in the house, the day lay in front of us and it was a wonderful part of the day to have time to myself. As soon as the troops arose... it was all go. Drama OK, so I'm a control freak. I have ...
I admire your discipline Pam but I don't think I could ever function at 4am! What a labour of love the Bayeux is. Finishing will be a bittersweetending to a very long 'pregnancy'.
Bayeux Discipline
Musings 12 days into the project and starting work at 4.00 am is working well. I had one slip up on Monday, the temperature was 40 deg and I slept more than normal. I put it down to being a domestic goddess for a few days... Washing, Ironing and cleaning... all of which are very boring. 5.15 ...
I know where you are coming from Lisa. I also did something quick and simple today, just so I could say I sewed this weekend.
What a cute growth chart and those sheep sure are cute!
Creative Block
Creativity has not been to my house in a long time. Couldn't seem to dig up the energy to start something - anything. Lots of ideas just couldn't get started. Sometimes its fun to do something quick and easy - helped get me out of my block. Finished this little wall hanging which also serves ...
Congratulations to Jamie and also to all of those involved in bringing these stories to the public. They are performing a very brave and important role.
I hope they are justly rewarded with the appropriate recognition.
Mothers Pride.
This is blatant pride in my sons work..... he will be flying into LA for the Emmy's but I will have already left.... !!!
Pam your photos are a visual delight once again. The loon is stunning. I could just imagine one of them made using black and white prints. How precious is the little one on mum's back?
As for 'toad in a hole' - very witty.
This looks like a wonderfully relaxing spot to put your feet up and recharge for a while.
My observations today, or should I say "Inspiration"
The water lilys float on the surface of the lake and the stems fade into the darkness and become distorted by the ripples in the water. The water shimmers in the sun and the reeds stand like horizontal punctuations in the water, their reflections twisting into the most interesting shapes....
Three quilts in Houston! Congratulations Pam, although seeing your work there was never a doubt. Have you completed the Bayeux?
I so wish I could go and see all the amazing quilts on show.
I'm sure you will bring home some ribbons with these quilts. Each of them is unique and I'm sure some of your ideas will shift the direction some quilters take after they see your work.
Best of luck, Pam.
We did it.
The Group quilt is juried into Houston and so is the Rhino and the Bayeux..... whoopeee......
There are more riches in life than money and I think you have been showeresd in them. What a wonderful gesture in return for all you have done for this community.
For it to turn you speechless just speaks volumes!
"Quilting can make a difference - just for the asking."
It's pre dawn, still dark and everything is quiet, so with little distraction I can now put down in words why I was unable to express myself last night. There are times in your life where you begin on a journey and you never know where it will end. A commitment to giving my name, time and...
The young man skating must shop for clothes in the same store as my skater son. I recognise the trademark rip!
For some reason he won't let me put a creative patch over the tears. I think he prefers that open-air feeling! I think it looks like he is neglected.
The photo tells a story.
My first port of call in the morning is to check my email, next I read USA Today on my Ipad. Each day they have a selection of amazing photos and they are the first things I check. I generally share each photo and it's title with Keith as we have breakfast. I get inspired by the way the photo te...
The only way I see 4:30 am is if I am on my way back to bed after a bathroom stop.
Not sure how you do it Pam but I do know how hard it is to sleep when ideas whirl around in your head. It is better to deal with them than to ignore the,
I can imagine that you would have complete peace and quiet at that hour.

4.30 am. 5 deg, the pitch dark of early morning, Coffee in hand, radio on and waiting to listen to "Australia all Over" and I'm finishing the last project.
Ooohhh, Pam you are such a tease! Congratulations to you all on your achievement. I can't wait to see the finished product. I just know it will knock our socks off!
We've done it.
This is our group, Pauline McPharlain, Jan Munzberg. Me and Jeanette Coombes. I've been quilting all day today and I'm exhausted... time for a coffee and relax in front of the TV. We had a wonderful time yesterday at the launch of our Group quilt. The excitement built up during the day an...
New grandies Pam, how exciting! Soon you might have trouble tearing yourself away to go travelling with all those delightful young minds to nurture.
I am so looking forward to seeing more of your joint project.
When and where are we looking at a launch? I haven't missed it have I?
The morning.
It's 5.30 am.It's cold and wet and still pitch dark outside. The rain is pounding sideways and the trees are taking a battering, the leaves shine in the moonlight as they catch the light in the rain. I just woke up. I came in from the shed at 12.00 p.m. and I fell asleep in the chair and stayed...
Love the look of this work Pam. I really like how you have thought outside the box for the zebra. Great choice of fabric.
A new Collage Idea.
As a tutor, I need to update my class samples and I just don't have enough hours in the day... however, preparing notes for the collage class I decided to add another dimension to collage and I played around with this quilt. I created the image of the zebra on paper and made a pattern. I wanted...
More priceless memories. The birthday girl looked gorgeous. She did a wonderful job on her makeup and looked very pretty in her best dress. I hear pink scooters are all the rage for four year olds.
Happy days!
A 4th Birthday Party
It's rather special when you have a 4th Birthday. The build up and anticipation, counting the sleeps is almost too much. Then the day arrives and you spend a little time in your tent putting on your makeup. Your cousin arrives the share the day. Uncle Matt and the Boys have a lot o...
This one HAS to become a quilt! I got such a giggle out of it. Today I really need my spirits lifted and it did just that.
I've forgotton which No I'm up to...!!!
It's difficult to play with fabric on the road... BUT, I can plan it and draw it. Maybe it will stay a drawing, maybe it will become a quilt
Oh Lordy Pam, doesn't your head spin? Sounds like a wonderful agenda on this trip. Lots to do and lots to see.
Leaving on a jet plane - finishing quilts, exciting events and the Bayeux
Podcast. Leaving on a jet plane.
Such vivid colours! We really are very conservative in our colour combinations aren't we? Great music too.
Quilt Show Video.
My new video is up on the Quilt Show, I hope you enjoy it. What wonderful experiences. Sometimes it's hard to share experiences in words, but illustrations, photographs and film make it possible. I understand that many people are a little wary about going to Mexico... all I can say is that it no...
Wonderful photos that really talk of the newness of the morning after the rain.
How beautiful are the feathers on the bird? Look at that beautiful green in there.
It's a Good morning.
6.20 am and I know why I love to live where I live. It's dawn and the birds are in loud conversation with each other. The smell of eucalyptus is heightened by the rain last night. I'm sure the vegie garden has grown overnight and the green of the new lettuces are luminous.... And all th...

4.00 am I walked out to the studio shrouded in the darkness of the dawn. Can I whisper...... the quilting on the rhino is now finished.
I trust the shed itself held up to the rain. Like Carolyn I too am puzzled/bemused by half an Easter egg. How do you stop at the half way point? I can't stop half way through anything except a sudoku which has become too tricky.
I think your leaf is quite intriguing and am looking forward to how it progresses. Perhaps it is now time for your spider to put in an appearance.
Easter Eggs, spiders, floods and leaves. What a day.
The heavens opened today, we had 2" of rain in the hills in a very short time. I was out working in the shed, when BANG, everything went out. I thought it was a power outage, but there was power in part of the house... So dripping wet, I investigated and worked out that water had leeched in...
Love the dimensional look of the lilies. I am intrigued by the addition and the placement of the lilies. What was the inspiration and the thought processes that led to this decision Pam?
Finished
I love how you have broken up the starkness of the white with the simple stitching. I'm glad you did that, it needed something to make it blend.
That's what I love about your work Pam, it always has a story attached and that story is as interesting as the quilt itself. Someday someone will be able to open a Pam Holland Museum using your images, drawings, journals, collections and masterpieces.
People will travel from all over the world to see it.
You might need somewhere larger than your shed to house it all though.
finished.
I've finished my first block, which actually turned out to be a small quilt 17" X 23" I'm going to add another installation to this quilt, but that will be counted as a separate block. I'm going to make two stand alone lilies and they will be placed in the top of the embroidery. To be hones...
Thank you so much for your story and images. It's almost like being in Mexico with you.
I just wish we could experience the smells and taste of the foods that you photographed as well. They looked divine!
Tonala
Photo Gallery of Tonala, Mexico. Classes are over for this week and now it’s time to explore. The rain has been relentless and the locals tell me “it’s most unusual, even in the wet season, it generally only rains in the evening”. I slept fitfully. Waking constantly to the sound of the rain a...
That one gave me such a laugh. I'm sure it's not fun being washed away but the mental image that conjured up was so funny.
I think there is a sketch and/or quilt in that statement alone.

I love the achitecture of that church. What a wonderful setting to be working in. I can see why you like it so much.
Ajijic Class
My class was great today. 25 ladies attended and will be with me for the next two days. We didn't complete monet's garden the project, but will do so tomorrow. Quite a few of the ladies had a problem with the tension on their machines. When talking, I had to compete with the cockerels crowing an...
