Aren't we all trying to figure this out? I often find myself with lots to do but often wondering what it is I am actually doing. I have many hobbies that I love but cannot dedicate my time fully to them. Maybe once the kids are in school I could. Using my "free" time to paint, cook, or sew is better spent to catch up on cleaning. Which I think is counterproductive because it doesn't stay that way. Anyway, I understand your feelings about finding your place in the world that you feel is where you belong. For me that was Edmond, and I too feel like our time there was a dream as the memories of everyday life are fleeting. Even though I'm confused about what I'm supposed to be doing or feel like maybe I'm not doing enough, I think by who's standards should I be measuring how much I should be "doing?" As you said, happiness is key. If the things we do create happiness, what else matters?
welcome, 2014
Nope. No philosophical meanderings, no internalizations, no sincere musings, nothing. Nothing but a big fat, "What in tarnation am I doing?" So my goal for 2014 will be to figure that one out. It's a good goal. What am I doing? I don't know. I can tell you what I'm not doing: cooking, ta...
I wish you great success in this endeavor! Good for you for being able to do something so fun and creative!
first craft show + giveaway
Whoa nellie, I have been remiss in keeping my little blog updated with ideas and thoughts. I often find myself inadequate to handle the many adventures that life brings. It's time like these that draw me to reflect on how quickly time passes and how much change (as in delta) can be crammed ...
I think you could have renamed the latter part of your post,"Estás leyendo Christina?!" I have a 5K in November that I should be working on...great post.
second new year's (+ the couch-to-5k running program)
Hobbits are adorable. (This is unrelated to the children in the photo above.) I love how the hobbits in Tolkien's Middle-earth have multiple iterations of meals: breakfast, second breakfasts, elevensies, lunch, afternoon tea and then dinner followed by supper. That's seven meals a day. Fa...
I love how this piece isn't just about the Mexican you but also about the Mexican me and many others as well. I had to take several ESL tests in kindergarten and was finally deemed worthy of English only classes. I remember back at my last job, I was a vendor contact for the courier service we have used. We had never met in person. When I asked for a package to be sent to a street named, Corona Del Sol, the vendor said, "What? You speak Spanish??? Are you like ethnic or something?" After saying yes, she said, "I would have never guessed. Your English is so good." I once received a phone call from a very sweet old lady from church who asked,"How long did it take you to get your papers? My maid has been waiting for years and I thought sponsoring her would help." After I informed her that I was born in the United States, she said, "Oh, well you're no help." Shame on me for being a third generation Mexican. This was a great piece!
the continuing story of mexican me
If you aren't a Beatle fanatic and recognize the title in "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill," you will probably think that line is a tad over-dramatic. <sorry> Download 1-06 The Continuing Story Of Bungalo What we have here is the continuing story of where I last left off. Before I ge...
Okay, now I'm hungry. Everything looks so good!
a kitchen bewitching: a little bit o' spring
So many things happening at this time of year! It's always exciting and there is nothing better than welcoming March 21st (the spring equinox) in the cheerful company of golden daffodils. Portland seems to be enthralled in the timid and gentle unfurling of spring and it's so lovely! Nothing w...
Tiaras? Not so much. The kitchen?! I LOVE. I need that organization.
a tiara
Today's post is really not about anything in particular but some lovely things that I saw and can't stopping thinking about. The husband is gone on call and I got to while away an hour watching episode 2 of "Downton Abbey" (season 3) from last Sunday. The images, settings, camera angles, gorgeo...
The cookies and cake look amazing! I can't believe he is 5! And he is so adorable! Having this new baby in....17 days...makes me look at my older kiddo in ways I haven't done in a while. It really is amazing to see them grow and be there own little person.
cinco
The youngest love of my life (I have three, one old and two very young) just turned 5 this last week. Five! I love that little man so much that my heart turns itself inside out when I kiss him at night after he's asleep. You have to understand, he has these chubby, pink cheeks still and these...
What an interesting history! That's pretty cool about the tunnels. I've also heard that theory about the light orbs. This past November when we went to the Dia De Los Muertos parade, I snapped some pictures - light orbs everywhere!
portland underground
Oberon and I decided we wanted to explore the spooky side of Portland, home of the dubious Shanghai tunnels. Rumors have it that there are hauntings in and around the tunnels and we were up for a good spook. Unfortunately, the Portland Underground tour is different from the Underground Haunted...
The photo of the leaves on the asphalt looks like a collage! The mushrooms looks like you stepped into Super Mario Brothers. And the soup makes me wish it got below 80 degrees in Phoenix. So what if the parsley was supposed to be in a bouquet garni, it looks like a delicious happy accident.
once upon a fall
Thanksgiving is over, ergo fall is over. Dang it! I'm always late! What a beautiful fall we had here in Portland. I did a terrible job of taking photos of all the surrounding beauty, but I'm going to use the rain as my excuse. In spite of me, the colors and overall mystery that surrounded th...
Hooray! This is so unexpected! Even if the odds were good, I almost never win anything. Can't wait for my baby to wear the cuteness!
moments: a ride in the park
For the two lucky winners of the giveaway, sorry to have left you hanging in suspense! I'm a little under the weather right now and am so ready for the weekend. But hopefully I'll mail out the baby items tomorrow! Our lucky winners are my sister for the blue set and an old friend from Oklahom...
Los de amarillo para mi nena que viene en Enero! It'll probably be too warm down her when she's born but they are beautiful!
the lucky ones (a give away)
My friends, how did we get to be so lucky? (And why do I sound like a guide on a Mexican tour bus?) My mother, of the very successful etsy shop Vintage Baby Clothier, has graciously donated some knit baby items for a giveaway! I love a good giveaway! She has knit two sets, one in buttery yello...
Ayer fotos de comida que me antoja, y ahora chocolates?!?
a chocolate day
Tomorrow this may be retitled "a bittersweet day". There are several Moonstruck Chocolate cafes here in Portland that I have greatly enjoyed discovering. My friend T wrote a thesis on the making of chocolate and various chocolate companies, so I know that Moonstruck is not known for its fine ch...
What? You are too modest, your food looks so inviting with the crisp shots you take and white plates bring out the color of your ingredients! I have everything to make the loaded baked potato soup and the canned apple pie filling cake. The weather is still warm down here for soups and pies but if baby wants it, baby will have it!
a kitchen bewitching: eat, papa, eat!
Does anyone remember that part in "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" where a skinny Santa is staring at his plate so Mrs. Claus has to tell him, "Eat, Papa, eat! You're going to disappoint the children. They expect a fat Santa." Just between you and me, sometimes I like to say that line to Obero...
This is a very good post for someone who is very pregnant and is craving all things food. Todo se ve delicioso!
