Thank you both, guess you're right, all you can do is lift your head & carry on

First thing, dont panic. The thought & feeling of rejection is horrible i know, but dont back away or back down. If this whole break up has been particularly difficult & is still incredibly recent, perhaps allow things to cool off properly, let his mind settle a bit. But whatever you do, let him know at some point how you feel, it may take some time to get round to it, it may not, but either way dont bottle it up. The best thing you can do is be honest with others aswell as yourself & dont be afraid about it, he may be baffled, but after the way you've helped him out, im almost sure he'll understand and appreciate your honesty at the very least. I've been in this situation before myself, not quite the same but on the same lines, & i was embarassed & humiliated at first, but things worked out in the end; you'll never know unless you try :)
