Autumn promises the smell of winter coming on... I love winter, Christmas, the snow and the cold!
Autumn vs Spring
I am definitely not a pessimist. However, curiously enough, it is spring, not autumn that makes me sad. Spring has always been identified with youth, and the sorrows of youth are poignant and bitter. The daisies, the orchids and daffodils which challenge so bravely our boisterous and unpre...

Not long ago I'd rather see my glass half empty than half full. I usually made negative thoughts about almost everything. Then I decided to get over this negativity which was killing me. I downloaded an ebook called "Yes to Life" for only $8 and this ebook changed my life completely.
My thoughts have changed my life for the better in very little time and continue to do so as I learn more.
I still experience negative feelings, though it doesn't happen as often and as distressingly as before. I now know how to talk myself into feeling better.
Positive Self-Talk
It is very common to hear people say "Think Positive" to a friend or relative who's been through rocky times. Few people, however, take this seriously. On the contrary, they'd rather ruin their health and poison their lives with negative thoughts. They hardly ever count their blessings and feel...

Now, I love this dish of Cyprus ravioli for three reasons:
1. I love halloumi cheese!
2. I love pasta.
3. I love the combination of these two ingredients.
I like cooking and I can get a bit adventurous, so I promise I'll try this recipe soon! :-) Keep your fingers crossed!

Alkis and I would usually spend Valentine's Day somewhere special. But this year we both had a long day at work, so we celebrated Saint Valentine's Day at home. After all, home is as special as any place can be.. It was 9:30 pm when I got back home from work. Alkis said he was starving but...

As Alexia said, love is the essence of life. It is the driving force that leads to fulfilment.

I love Greek dances and I strongly identify with them. Like many Greek families, mine celebrated all our events with dance. My greatest joy as a child was looking forward to two seasons: spring and summer. In springtime, when sounds of protomayia echo everywhere- the first of May, all of Greece is dressed in a petticoat of red poppies. There are picnics and rituals of gathering wild flowers that date back to ancient times. Some of the most memorable days in my early childhood were the late winter Carnival celebrations before Lent, and the grandest holiday of all—Easter!
As a child, I spent summertime in my grandparents’ village in Crete. Every weekend, various chapels in the nearby villages celebrated a saint’s day with a feast. People gathered under the shade trees preparing foods. My uncles played bouzouki and lyra setting the pace for all to dance. That's how I learned to dance Pendozalis.
Dancing with the Greeks
Greece is one of the few countries in the world where folk dances are as alive today as they were in ancient times. Dance has always played an important role in the life of a Greek. It is an expression of human feelings and everyday life. The Greeks danced at religious festivals, ceremonies; t...

The Vikos Gorge is probably the best hiking area in Greece. The views of Pindos are truly amazing!
Hiking in Greece: The Vikos Gorge
"Upwards and Downwards, One and the Same"--Heraclitus BY Janet McGiffin In the 6th century BC, the philosopher Heraclitus said, "A road is, upwards and downwards, one and the same." Those who have hiked the Vikos Gorge will say this description fits perfectly. Even with the varied terrain and v...
This week wasn't easy for me either. Glad it's over!
An Eventful Week in January
Monday, January 23, 2012 I woke to the sound of roaring thunder and torrential rain and refused to get up at 7:00 am. My gym class was at 8:00 but I knew I'd miss it! I didn't want to know what was happening outside and subsequently covered my head with the pillow...hoping that I could go ...

You look very chic in your black outfit, but I'd expect you to wear black and white on a Black & White night theme... Accidents happen all the time. I'm glad your romantic night didn't end in disaster!
Rhodes-Symi, Greece - August 2006 - Part B
Day 4 - Tuesday August 8th 2006 After our memorable trip to Symi, we got some rest and then got ready for the Black and White gala dinner at Varkarolla Restaurant. The night theme was Black & White.... I decided to dress in total black - I hardly ever do so - just for a change from the total...
I fell in love with indian food when I first visited India 5 years ago. I like a lot of Indian dishes such as their cheese and paneer dishes but my favourites are kuttu ki puri, hara bhara kebab and kalkan biryani. When travelling to southern India, I had the chance to taste some of the country's hottest curries.
Indian Night
Last night, I surprised Alkis with one of his most favourite dishes: Indian Chicken Curry - an authentic Indian recipe I came across at allrecipes.com. Unlike me, Alkis loves hot and spicy foods and is a great fan of Indian cuisine. I also love Indian food but in its mild or ....very mild ve...
I've been to Switzerland twice but just for business, I didn't really have the time to explore the country. I hope I will one day :-) Glad to see that you had such a great time with your family.
My Holidays in Switzerland
It's been almost a week now that I'm back from a holiday in Switzerland where I spent two weeks with my husband and two sons. We were all very impressed with the beuties of this small but amazing country that we were visiting for the first time. Except the tickets and hotel reservations, we di...
Η αλήθεια είναι ότι είχα καιρό να γελάσω τόσο πολύ...online! Νάσαι καλά, Στεφανία μου.
Φιλοσοφία Επαγγελμάτων!
Your daily schedule at work seems crazy to me! Teachers in Greece, both in public and private schools have at least a 20-min break in between classes. I wish you to be always strong and patient and may the new school year be constructive for you. I also have a very crazy schedule as I often have to travel abroad. I spend a lot of time in Germany, then I may go back to Greece for a couple of days, work at the office from 6 am to after midnight, sleep 2-3 hours before I catch the next flight to Germany and from there I have at least 4-5 trips a month to other European cities. But...I'm still alive!!!
A Week in the Life of......
Well, the first week of school has been chronicled. I got to meet all the kids I will be teaching this year and have been introduced to a multitude off people who will be in and out of my classroom each week, to ensure I am teaching correctly and giving me "pointers" of how to "do it" better. My...
I greatly enjoyed watching the videos you've posted. I saw Jonathan Livingston years ago and loved it not only for the music but also for its brilliant photography. So, Be is one of my favourite songs but the one I listen to all the time is Haroula's To Tango tis Nefelis. I love Haroula Alexiou and have almost all her CDs and a small collection of the vinyl records. Ola Se Thimizoun is yet another song by Haroula that I enjoy very much. To me she is the greatest voice Greece has ever known.
My Favourite Songs
Music is an integral part of myself. I can't live without it. Classical music makes me relax after a hard day at work but I also enjoy listening to Rachmaninov and Mozart on the beach. My ipod is filled with their music. I like American oldies and Greek music, of course. . Here are a few of my f...
15-year-old PCs are like teenagers: moody! :-)
Computer Stories
I've been intending to get a new PC for the office since the end of term in May. It's one of those good, old PCs which has never caused me the slightest problem for 15 years now. The truth is, it was getting old, but I gave it some more RAM and here it was, as good as new. However, I did promise...
I am impressed by your amazing photos and the natural beauty of Platres.
Platres, Cyprus - August 2011
Located on the southern slopes of Troodos Mountains at 1200 metres above sea level and at about 40 km from Lemesos - the second largest city of the island, the picturesque village of Platres is the jewel of mountainous Cyprus. With the highest temperatures ranging between 1C (38F) in th...
I had this dish for the first time a few years ago at a restaurant in Athens owned by a Cypriot and loved it so much that the following day I ordered a dozen to take away. Absolutely delicious!
Monday's Greek Recipe: Sheftalies - Grilled Minced Meat Rolls
Sheftalies is a traditional Greek Cypriot dish which is, however, widely known in mainland Greece as well. Just like there's a fish and chips outlet in almost every neighbourhood in the UK, in Greece and Cyprus there's at least one "souvlatzidiko". This is a kind of fast food outlet where you c...
