8 years old and a drill? Definitely!! Pull together a bucket of the tools they can use. Hammer, drill, handsaw (yes mama, a handsaw) nails, screws. Have a little safety/proper use session and let them go. Let them get the woodscrap pile together. And for those little gear brain children - just send them over to instructables.com and go back to sewing. Great directions, they'll figure it out.

Sean the Sheep vs Punching Bag
It's Monday. Do you need a laugh? Trying to figure out what that rhythmic noise against the side of the house was, I glanced out the window and this is what I saw. So of course, I made a mad dash for the camera and tried to capture it. I only was able to get a few seconds before Sean spotted me and decided I was more interesting, but it was enough.
Just another day around here. Just another day.

Funny that your pic has turkeys in it. We have a small flock of wild turkeys that has suddenly migrated into our pastures and every morning there are new tracks.
Our moment is a Vermont first for us. The wet snow finally let the kids loose their inner architect.

I needed a smile this morning and that did it.
That is the quandary of multiple siblings. The first are so protected, so insulated, and the youngest are not. It's impossible to keep them so insulated while their big brothers are making their own forays into the world. It's bittersweet.
And how well do I remember grassy grass grass. Check out Asylum Street Spankers album, "Mommy says No." It is our latest attempt to bridge the big kids need for "adult" music with little kid needs. Pretty fun. I particularly rock out to the lunch box song on the way to the ski slope.

(That pile of beams is a work in progress. Please ignore them in the middle of my kitchen. That's what I try to do.) The after dinner clean up/dance party tradition is alive and well here these days. And of late, the boys have had a little bit of help from someone who just ...

Free Printable Valentines for You and Yours.
I had ambitions early on last week to create a set of printable valentines to share with you all. Of course, it turned out to be a busier than normal week around here, and then someone (whose name begins with Z and who doesn't believe in wearing socks unless absolutely necessary) was mostly d...
I especially LOVE the cardinal list one. Perfect for my boys who don't want super gushy stuff. I'm pinning away!

New ski jumps and homemade marshmallows. That was our weekend too. We got lots of snow, but none of the wind so it turned into a gorgeous weekend.
white winter
A blizzard, indeed! While the total accumulation here wasn't as much as that a bit to the south of us, it was still more snow than I think I've ever seen come down in one storm. And in true blizzard fashion, too - high winds, and blowing snow that went on through the night and day. Amazingly, we...
Ski swaps happen in October (whatever that holiday weekend is) at the ski lodges - one in Killington. That is the place to pick up your gear. Also, BIG sales happen at the outdoor stores Presidents Day weekend (this coming weekend) Being new to Vermont, we had to stock up too, but fortunately our friends told us about the swaps. Outfitting a family of five for snow is $$$$$. :)

How do you get your lake cleared like that?!? Ours is buried under snow and there is just a small patch open that the locals clear for skating. Jealous!
Ours is my favorite thing. Belly laughs and silliness.

ooo! I've been looking for something for my kiddo's wall!
the print shop
One excuse for my Providence visit was to deliver art to be signed. Visiting with Phoebe Wahl in her space, it was a delight to discover these very creatures that I've come to know in her print artwork brought closer to life in three dimensional form. I wanted to tuck them into my pocket ...
Love it! Perfect for the first project.
the first knit
I spent a very long time thinking about what to make with my first handspun yarn from our very own sheep. It felt so monumental, I wanted it to be something meaningful. As the wheel spun, and my mind turned, I realized that the most monumental and meaningful thing I could make would be...
