I pretty much always use hobby lobby's I love this yarn when using acrylic. It's super soft but has enough body to not flop around.
Crocheted Valentine Bunting
I had a lot of time on my hands during the snow storm last week. This allowed me to finally put away Christmas decorations and start thinking of Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays to decorate for because it means lots of pink and red, cute candy, hearts and other g...

Crochet School Lesson 15: Creating Texture
Sometimes crocheting a flat piece of fabric won't do. Texture makes pieces interesting by providing something for the eye to be drawn to. We're going to go over 4 common ways to create texture in this lesson. I will just be using the double crochet stitch for the demonstration videos. But all of...
You just need to weave in the ends. One of the videos goes over that. Not sure which one.
Crochet School Lesson 23: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them
Sorry I've taken so long to post this very last post of the crochet school series. Would you believe me if I said I don't want it to end? haha That's not the real reason, although it is a little weird to be writing the last crochet school post (for now). I've just been busy designing new pattern...
I just happened to have lactaid. We used to buy that because it lasts longer than regular milk.
DIY Iced White Mochas
I am a white mocha fanatic. They are definitely my guilty pleasure of choice. Now that I work more and drive a lot I find myself often stopping at Starbucks for this guilty pleasure more than I probably should. I started trying to figure out how to make my favorite beverage at home to save mon...

As many of you know I'm a librarian. I was asked to start doing some craft posts for my library's blog here's the first one! It's all about DIY gift giving and has a list of resources to get you... Continue reading

Crochet School Lesson 1: Welcome and Intro to Crochet
When I was little I hated crocheted afghans. There, I said it, I'm so glad I could get that off my chest! The problem I had with afghans was that they were rough and stiff and made out of the most garish colors -- Orange, Army Green, rust, and brown. They weren't something I ever wanted to s...

Handmade projects of 2014
I posted these to Instagram a week or so ago and thought I should share them on here too since some of you may still follow the blog, but not my IG account (which is also craftyminx). Compiling these photos... Continue reading

The Loops with like 10 or 8 underneath them are how many chains to make as a foundation for the rows above it. Not all of them have a number underneath because they match the on the other side. Hope that helps!
Crochet School Lesson 21: Reading Crochet Charts
Remember in the last lesson where I said that the simpler the pattern the better? Well how's this for simple? (hover your mouse over to see the difference between the square and the chart overlay) Do you see how you could possibly not even need words to make a pattern if you knew what the symb...
Blocking it might help. But usually really drapey things will tend to curl.

Acetone might work, but spending on the bezel it could ruin it too.
Let's Talk Resin
I have had a few questions about resin, particularly use in molds. Since last year's Valentine's post wasn't really about the resin molds I didn't do a full tutorial. My bad, people. I really didn't think they would be that popular at the time. And I must admit that was my first time to try the ...
Iryna, the videos are working, it may be your device. Try going to this link: www.vimeo.com/craftyminx that's where all the videos are housed.

Hi Amanda,
Of course you can! Amigurumi making requires a really tight fabric so stuffing doesn't get out, that's why you have to use such a small hook. It can hurt your wrists and hands, though so don't do any marathon amigurumi-ing! Hope that helps! -d
Crochet School Lesson 3: Yarn Basics
Before you ever start a project, it’s important to pick out the perfect yarn and hook for the project. And while most patterns give a suggested yarn and hook size, it’s always a great idea to know enough about picking out yarn to make substitutions. In this lesson we’ll discuss everything yarn r...

Crochet School Lesson 6: The Single Crochet Stitch
Are you ready to learn your second stitch? If you have successfully made your chain and have figured out where you are going to put your hook, I believe you are. The first stitch I'm going to teach you is the single crochet stitch. This is the shortest stitch of the five we'll learn this week an...

D.I.Y bottle brush trees
Last year around this time, I had to have some vintage bottle brush trees. I knew how to make them myself, but couldn't find the trees to dye. So I went searching etsy. I bought 5 or so small pink ones for about $8 without shipping. This year, I wanted some teal trees to go with my pink ones s...

Triangle Quilt Finished!
I finished my quilt this past weekend and it is everything I hoped it would be! About 2 feet of it is draped over the fence in these pictures, so you'll just have to imagine what that part looks like ;). I worked frantically on it over my one and only vacation this summer deemed #quiltcation...
I've decided I'm making a little #quiltcation label for the back, so you'll definitely be a part of it!
