Anneli, thanks very much for your feedback. I'm glad that it struck a chord for you.

"How Shall We Sing?" Recording
Here's a recording of the song I co-wrote with David MacGregor, "How Shall We Sing?" in 2018 after the Songwrite event in Brisbane. It was prompted by Dr Tanya Riches' input about writing songs with a local flavour. The song is a suggested resource for a Day of Mourning in Uniting Church congr...
Here's the audio recording.

New Song - "How Shall We Sing?"
Please click here to go to the video. Here's the second new song by David MacGregor and myself. This was prompted at Songwrite 2018 by our guest speaker, Dr Tanya Riches, speaking about songs of lament and songs that were about our place, our land. I guess it started with a "Great Southland" ide...
Hi Di and Peter,
I'm working on the recording as we speak. Then I have to make the video. Hopefully it's all sorted by Monday at the latest!

Tracy thanks for sharing your memory.
like a candle
I had meant to post that it was 10 years ago the weekend before last that rachel millen died. there was a gathering of friends in tassie, a kind of reunion I suppose. I didn't get to go, but as I was leading worship the following day here in adelaide, I included "like a candle" in the service, as...
Shawn, it works for me. It's an mp3. I'll try emailing you the mp3. The demo is pretty rough and doesn't quite get the Oils vibe that I'm after.

Great to hear from you Graeme. Hope you're both keeping well. Peace.
"Sing of a Promise" Video
Here is a new lyric video for the Advent / Christmas song "Sing of a Promise" written by Allan Hoare and myself. Lyrics and music here. I wrote the verses and then Allan added the bridge. Allan wrote the music and we then tweaked it together. Allan has made the recording. The song is with CCLI, ...
Chris, thanks for the comment and you're not the first person to say that! (see previous comment) Firstly the brief narrative mentions salvation history in Creation, Cross and the Spirit's coming. But secondly, the people are invited to make their own prayer of thanksgiving together. It's the work of the people. Of course, that part could be structured more - let us give thanks for God's goodness in Creation, let us give thanks for the life and ministry of Jesus Christ, etc. Having said that, I figure that people take liturgy and change it to make it their own, so that's why I haven't tried to fix it.
responsive communion
The Mission-Shaped Ministry folks in the UK want to use my responsive eucharistic liturgy in their training. When I wrote it, I wanted to reverse the liturgy, so that the people were saying what the celebrant usually says, with the celebrant asking questions instead. (Steve later said that it re...
Claire, that is lovely to hear. We moved back to Melbourne a year ago, and certainly understand the current challenges. Peace to your team.

Thanks Wendy and Cynthia. I just added some estra stuff to the page.
"Come Home" - The Lost Son
I'm preparing for my last service at Blackwood UC. The gospel reading is Luke 15:1-32. Here's my worship planning so far. I haven't included everything. I have a series of images on the theme "Come Home" that begins with a view from outside a house, then a close-up of a house, then an open fron...
Thanks Cynthia. You're welcome to use anything. I'll email you some Prodigal Son stations that I've done. I'm sure I stole some ideas from Cheryl Lawrie. When I've done this before I've had people sitting at tables with bowls for tasting in the centre of the table. I'm thinking this time of simply having bowls that are passed along the rows and people take some seeds or rock salt. I'm thiniknig of using communion glasses for the third tasting. That then made me wonder if I would change the third tasting for something like sparkling apple juice. I'll add a photo of the Son figure above - it's actually the bottom of a broken candle holder but it sort of looks like a person.

Pentecost Sunday 2015
I'm leading worship in my local congregation for Pentecost Sunday. I've been trying to get back to blogging regularly so here's a good reason to do so. This is the outline of what we're doing. We're combining the Acts 2 Pentecost reading with Galatians 5 on the Fruits of the Spirit. The church i...
Your words are most gracious and your contribution was fabulous. Thanks again.

Best new music of 2015
There was some stunning new music produced in 2015, so much so that ti's hard to make a top list of anything. But here's my top 10 and some that almost made the cut. Tame Impala - "Currents" Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors - "Medicine" Seryn - "Shadow Shows" - check out their earlier stuff too! Pun...
Thanks Nicole. I know Godly Play. That's a helpful idea. We would need to change the setting, for a few reasons. Let me think about it.
Interactive Christmas 2015
Rosefield Uniting Church's fifth Interactive Christmas event was held yesterday on a scorching 41 degree day in Adelaide. The extreme heat certainly reduced attendance, particularly of families with pre-schoolers, but it was still a great evening. We have a spectacular group of helpers who come...
that's a fair comment Ann. As you can guess, the Great Prayer of Thanksgiving was meant to be said by the people. It would have been possible to give them some cues in that time. eg. let us give thanks for God's work in Creation.... let us give thanks for the gift of Jesus Christ, God-with-us, etc.

Thanks Stephen. I'll try that.
Ricotta Hotcakes and Pancakes
Several times I've bought ricotta on sale and then had no idea what to do with it. This week I've discovered exactly what to do with it! First up I used a Philip Johnson recipe from "Classic Ecco" to make Spinach and Ricotta Hotcakes with Smoked Salmon, accompanied by cauliflower mash, capers an...

The problem with Christian Education - Part 1
In framing my research I've suggested a disconnect between Christian education anf missiology, but I've also had an underlying question about the capacity of Christian education to help people make sense of and live their faith in the postmodern world. I believe that in many places the theory, m...

Psalm 27
I've driven to Canberra with my friend Titus for the Uniting Church's first songwriting gathering. Here's Andrew Dutney singing songs and talking about songwriting. Robin Mann has done the same. Wonderful. About 20 songwriters and about 10 helpers are present. I fit into both categories as I...

David, thanks for asking! I dont know where the pianist got the song from, but the 'permission' always says that people are free to use it for worship. The song has three authors and no publisher and you are more than welcome to us it for non-commercial purposes. The NCYC songbook explains that. At least I thought it did. Please sing it, enjoy it, share it. And by the way, yes, I'm the contact person.
