My goodness. Now I know why my last pair of earrings died... to make way for a new pair!

This is the last stop on the Christmas recap train (I think... I'm not very organized about this). We have five nephews under the age of six. They have more toys than you can imagine. So, I try to give... Continue reading

I forgot to take a photo before it was all put away, but here's what came in this week's box: more strawberries! butternut squash small white potatoes large sweet potatoes lots of small onions rainbow carrots arugula cilantro!!! apples oranges... Continue reading

J wanted to have his own "knitting" -- he quickly got frustrated (of course, he's two), but discovered the joy of pulling wool between one's toes. He must have been giggling for a full ten minutes. Continue reading

And they're right, at least in our neighborhood!

Today we are all snug at home due to a foot of snow and more coming down every second. It's nice to be home, with nowhere to go, after spending yesterday (and three gallons of gas... in a Civic) dropping... Continue reading

It really feels like cheating to be having strawberries in January. Like the Month Brothers are going to come down hard on us in return. Oh wait, we're supposed to have a nor'easter tomorrow. We just joined a winter CSA,... Continue reading

This was the Christmas Gift That Almost Didn't Happen. I bought the pattern and fabric (four yards of it) months ago, preshrunk the fabric and ironed it, then spent a lot of time knitting stuff and quilting potholders, and when... Continue reading

Pretty much everyone I know cooks at least a little bit, so potholders are an excellent all-around go-to gift. Hostess? Christmas? Birthday? Valentine's Day? (I kid you not, my mom mailed me a homemade heart-shaped potholder for Valentine's Day 2009.)... Continue reading

My mom put me in front of the sewing machine at an early age. In truth I was in front of it while still in the womb. She used to wake me up in the morning by sewing my baby... Continue reading

This has been a slow year for knitting, for me. One long (though not large) secret project, still in the works. One Olympic dash (you saw that one). One small secret project, given at Christmas. And one toddler sweater, which... Continue reading

Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year to all! I hope your celebrations have been peaceful and joyful. (And a very belated Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Hanukkah, too, while we're at it...) I've *just* come in from a tramp... Continue reading

Wow. I'm struggling to find the heat source (other than solar)... don't tell me you've got radiant heat under there??? I don't see any baseboard or window radiators!

There's a reason I haven't moved the snow shovels from their spot next to the door :) Although, our Johnny's catalog has been lying around too! Really need to get those seeds started soon. Just moving the catalog from room to room with me doesn't make the garden grow...

I finished! (In time for the closing ceremonies... this post is just a bit late.) Yellow is not a color found much in my wardrobe, but this buttery shade goes with most of my shirts, and I'd been hankering for... Continue reading

Thank you :) I'm amazingly dense sometimes too -- I just figured out last night that the Olympics don't end until SUNDAY night. Two more days!

The Olympics have just today, tomorrow, and Friday... and I think that will be enough time to knit two sleeves and block a sweater! I bound off the body at book club last night and wove in the ends. It's... Continue reading

Or in John's case, chilling in the snow. He loves to pick it up and fortunately isn't eating it yet. This is the nicest February in my memory. Not warm, but extremely sunny. Will March be a doozy? That there... Continue reading

4 days, or about 25% into the Olympics, and judging by yarn consumption, about 25% done with the cardigan. I got to the bottom of the ribbed yoke last night, slipped the stitches onto a length of dental floss, and... Continue reading

Take that, NBC. I found a live feed with, we think, Swedish commentary. Never got to find out for certain as there were no commercials. I did indeed cast on during the opening ceremonies. Three times in fact! (It helps... Continue reading

An entirely different animal from light in August. Yesterday's sunset was quiet and subtle, not one of those show-stealing winter sunsets. Sunset is an angel weeping, holding out a bloody sword No matter how I squint, I cannot make out... Continue reading
