Phillies will pay $4M on this year's salary and nothing more if the option vests. I don't know what else might have been out there for a 37 year old corner OF, but I don't hate the return.

I missed that from Rosenthal. Here's his tweet: Byrd owed $8M in 2015 and has $8M vesting option for ‘16. #Phillies expected to send significant cash to #Reds in trade. He's also the only one to suggest another player could be involved: #Phillies and #Reds have a deal involving Marlon Byrd. RHP Ben Lively one of players headed to PHI.

Doubt he includes any money in the deal. Byrd is a reasonably priced OF for one year at $8M with another club option of $8M. Although the prospect quality was more than I thought we'd get (not that it's high, just more than I thought), so maybe he kicked in a couple mil to boost prospect quality.

Ben Lively, 22 year old RHP MLB.com had him as Reds 8th ranked prospect: Scouting grades: Fastball: 55 | Curveball: 50 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55 | Overall: 50 Lively's average stuff combined with plus deception have some thinking of him as the right-handed version of Tony Cingrani. The Reds can only hope this Central Florida product can follow the same quick path to Cincinnati. None of Lively's pitches jump off the page, but he does have four of them that he can throw for strikes. His fastball can touch 93-94 mph, and his slider shows signs of being a potential above-average pitch, as well. Lively mixes in his curve and changeup well to keep hitters guessing. All of his stuff plays up because of his unusual delivery in which his arm stays hidden, making it tough for hitters to pick up the ball. It only took Cingrani a year to make an impact in Cincy. Lively could be on a similar fast track.

Not sure I expected much more than a 4th-starter ceiling prospect for Marlon Byrd. Not even sure I expected that much.

Also... I didn't hate the first Rule 5 pick we made today, but CF? Really? Seems like a stretch. The second Rule 5 pick? Can't see the point.

Sad to see J-Roll go... one of my favorite all-time Phillies. I'm surprised we got as much as we did for him. Omar Daal is probably an optimistic comp, but not unreasonable.

Yes, it's as awful as you remember. We actually bought the game for our Atari way back in the day. My brother gave up on it early... but I was stubborn... and stupid. I played it much more before also giving up. Worst. Game. Ever.

If this is a nice way of saying that people who don't agree with your side are angry, hateful bullies... than I hate to see what you'd write if you were really upset. Believing in Conservative ideals does not make you intolerate, hateful or divisive. I worry about what an Obama presidency will mean for our country because I think big government liberals have the wrong vision for America. That doesn't make me hateful or intolerant. Your impulse, however, isn't surprising. Being on the "winning" side has a tendency to change people. I'll be very interested to see where the movement goes from here.

That's soooooo weird. I was just thinking about that "Special" opening the other day. I wanted to find it on YouTube. My wife is a couple years younger and is just outside the age range.

You won't be shocked by this... but I'm not an Obama fan. I think those that support him often lose perspective. Yes, Hillary is driven by ego. As is Barack Obama. And the Rush Limbaugh effect? Negligble at best... but more likely non-existant. If Barack Obama could manage to win working-class white voters (those Reagan Democrats), this race would be long over. Finally... hasn't Barack Obama already told millions of voters in Michigan and Florida to go fuck themselves? Can't have it both ways. Hillary wanted there to be a new election. Barack said No. Don't you ever ask yourself why? Does it matter to you?

Much, much too easy my liberal friend. They didn't take a bridge because it lead to nowhere. They didn't take the tubes because they were clogged. Duh.

Yeah, it was great, as usual. And I have no doubt they'll give us a satisfying conclusion to the season... with perhaps a tacked on new cliffhanger, sort of like 24 did last year... or The Shield does each year. Give us a season-long story line and then a jumping off point for next season.

Yeah, wil... No matter how wrong you are politically, it's nice to know we can put that aside when it matters ;-) There is this, though... I'm not one of the crazy Conservatives who denies our world is getting warmer. I also don't deny we're contributing to it. However, those of you hoping the Kyoto Treaty is the be all, end all... are sorely misguided.

Like you, wil, I'm just waiting for Otis to finally sit down and write a book. What he wrote the other days is one of the finest things I've ever read. He's amazing. And thanks for the link!
