For me, Doc is on a pedestal whether he wants to be there or not; he's the best flatpick guitar player I've ever seen. And I've seen him three times: in St. Louis with Merle, in DC at the National, and in Baltimore at a tiny club sitting not more than 3 feet in front of him. He's looking elderly but I'll bet he still sings and plays great.
