Life as a 40, oops 50-something--- juggling work, life, children and a great husband who is a stay-at-home-work-your-head-off Dad and living with cancer, and all the various challenges and joys of life as we live it....
Interests: in no particular order: americana music, gardening, my family, cooking (not baking), old buildings (I tend to like them best before they're restored even though I'm all for historic preservation), antiques...mostly 19th century american, reading (sometimes respectable stuff and sometimes anything set in regency england), roadside architecture, mid-19th century american glass, old roads, hosting parties and house concerts in our slightly ramshackle house, laughing at my boys, admiring my boys, missing those I've lost, loving those I have.

I'm starting my first month on the full AIP diet as defined by my doctor. So....no nuts, seeds, nightshades (tomato, pepper, eggplant, potatoes), no grains except half a cup of quinoa a day (goodbye newly loved Oatly). Beef is to... Continue reading

We stayed up late (for us) watching election results. A mixed bag, from our point of view. We are thrilled the Democrats have the House, and most of the local races (except for Londrigan, sniff, sniff), but disappointed in others.... Continue reading

Yesterday I worked on our health insurance application for awhile, ate lunch, and then suggested to Ernie that we go on a drive. Honestly, I didn't feel great yesterday but I felt a bit restless, and am trying to get... Continue reading

The drive yesterday did help cheer me up. We headed over to Decatur to check out the Wabash Depot Antique Mall's open house. We drove through the country on county roads to get there, and on the way we drove... Continue reading

Wretched day yesterday. Truly wretched. I'm frustrated that I don't know what the future holds, and yet do I really think that we EVER know what the future holds? Of course not. It was just a disappointing day, and I... Continue reading

I love just driving out in the country but I haven't been doing it as much of late. Yesterday we were restless, so we meandered north of town a bit. We found a tiny little cemetery, eventually wandering through Crystal... Continue reading

Thanks to all that sent kind thoughts on our anniversary yesterday. It boggles the mind that we have been married thirty years. I'm almost embarrassed to announce it, except that I am also inordinately proud of the fact that we... Continue reading

1. One of my favorite things that happened at our house concert, was the gift of these mugs. I think you can figure out which ones I mean. My beloved Ben Stuparits made them. I told him and Karen that... Continue reading

It's taken me awhile to sit down and write about Friday's incredible 10-20-30 celebration. With Ernie and I both being a tad under the weather, we were totally wiped out afterwards. We are starting to feel normal again, at least... Continue reading

The other evening I got something in my eye. I guess it was early evening because I remember complaining to Leo as he got home from work, while I fussed with my eye. I couldn't see anything in the eye,... Continue reading

I finally started putting all my photos into Google Photos and I do find it much easier to find things and sort. Yes, the facial recognition tool is a bit uncannily accurate. I show them a picture of 16 year... Continue reading

1. Ernie in his happy place: watching Jacques Pepin, a Thanksgiving show no less, and with his foot up, per doctor's orders. 2. I love this woman so much! It was such a treat to see the brilliant and beautiful... Continue reading

Ten years ago: Our first house concert. I like the fact that Owen is peeking out on the left, and will have his band opening the show this time. Time flies, huh? Twenty years ago: We move into this house.... Continue reading

1. Last night Ernie and I were muttering about what to fix for dinner. Owen started reminiscing about a particularly good roast chicken and potatoes I had made once. Then he offered to go to the store and buy what... Continue reading

Ernie continues to make wonderful breakfasts for me. It's not always eggs, but they are one of my favorites, now that I've had to give up peanut butter on a frozen onion bagel. Somedays it's standard, plain, simple, perfectly made... Continue reading

I went through a stack of very old papers that had gotten tucked away. Most of it went straight into the trash, but then I found this gem. He must have been barely ten. Dear Dad and Mom, Good afternoon,... Continue reading

Thanks Melissa. I am completely biased, of course, but I do think he has a good eye. I asked him about how he got the background that way, and he smiled, and said, "dumb luck!"
