Sounds like plants can be a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. This gives me a little hope for my own fargesia which unlike yours is potted and stuffed into a protected mulch pile. My hope is that the negative of the pot is cancelled out by the plus of the mulch!

Wow, I love those yellows. I think you'll be very happy with your purchases and I know Carolyn sends nice plants. I may have made a few pricey purchases as well. What better way to get through the winter!

Isn't it amazing how much shows up when you do a review? In the thick of it sometimes it seems like nothing is getting done, but when you look back... wow! I just wish as much was accomplished here, but there's always 2017 ;)

I really enjoyed his, it's great to see the garden develop and it's so interesting to hear the thought and processes that went into it. I really need to get on the ball! We've been here 8 years and don't have nearly as much to show for it :)

Congratulations! -and thanks for the insight on the name. I just thought it was catchy and descriptive, but nice to know it goes deeper.

Wow. What an effect the pots give, they really act as destination points in the garden and are such a good size! I love the waterlily pot most, filled or unfilled it's beautiful.

haha, so are there now 500 must have plants!? I am not in any way going to be able to keep up, so I'll just plod along in my ignorance :) I do admit I like going through those lists, but my biggest smile came from learning I'm not the only one who holds onto old gardening magazines for way to long (according to the non-gardener living here)

Not at all good news. I've heard of the problems earthworms can cause in native soils... but these guys? Sounds like they're ten times worse.

You are getting a lot of fun stuff, I love the labels! Hope things have warmed up once again and the ice is gone...

That is quite a clump of trillium, and I'm surprised by how far along they are already! I somewhat like this time of year when there's not all that much going on and you can just plow through and clean everything up... but like you say, the unsettled up and down temperature swings can really make you wonder!

Heh heh. My gardening attire falls far short, but a radish boutonniere wouldn't be out of the question!

You've had quite the year! I knew about the driveway, but didn't realize the teahouse slope was so new. Happy New Year!

Luckily that mess wore itself down a little before getting to us. We've been spoiled for so long I need a few more days to ease into this winter thing.

That's a hungry eye, I bet the feeder was awfully quiet while he was around.

That photo brings back good memories :) My bulbs from Odyssey have always been great and I'm sure yours will as well. I'm looking forward to seeing them bloom next spring!

Let me just say you have some really nice bulbs coming your way. I'm a bit jealous! Right now I'm sitting on my hands until I sort through the daffodils I still need to replant this fall... plus I may have had a moment or two of weakness with snowdrop bulbs, so my budget needs time to heal.

Love the arrangement, so delicate yet strong. I was just telling someone the other day how I generally am not impressed by toad lilies. Looks like I might have to keep the mind open just a little bit longer, that's a nice one!

Fantastic color! Do the birds enjoy these or will they last for a little bit? It looks like the plant is offering up a colorful buffet, I'd be surprised if no one takes a taste. Frank

Boy you sure do take a lot on! It looks great and all came together so well, and I'm glad you were also able to enjoy the visit. It must help having a good group, but I think most gardeners are :)

The details are amazing and to see it all completed is inspiring. I wish I had more rocks here, but they would look like chips of debris next to your boulders!

I like that you can connect your garden to your neighbor's. I think it makes both seem larger when they flow a bit. The names are fun. We tend to go grandiose here with names like 'the farm' and 'the orchard'. The orchard has a single 6 foot apple sapling, the name may be a little optimistic!

You are lucky to have such a resource nearby, what a nice diversion while everything is locked under a blanket of ice! Low maintainence isn't the worst idea.... I'll be reminded of that in a few weeks when I tidy up all the messes left over and not attended to last fall :)

Beautiful pictures and great suggestions for winter interest. I've also been thinking about it and for a while was settled in with the 'not zone 7, not enjoying cold' crowd, but I think I've made progress. I'm enjoying the way my tiny evergreens stand out against the white and how last year's stalks hold the snow. I'm not about to wander out for some time on the bench, but I do appreciate the view.
