I lost 8 stone last year and have put on 4 stone since I stopped dieting, so I totally identify with the above. I'm very fed up about it and waiting for help from psych services with my food issues. Losing 8 stone was nice but, as you say, it didn't make me any happier. Like you, though, I feel the world is watching, as I lost weight to raise money for charity...!
