Great picture! I recognize the people and the train. I'm assuming you had just left Penn Station headed west? The Book Review looks a little too unwrinkled for being the end of a trip.
Keynote Graveyard
This has long been one of my favorite slides in 29th Street Publishing's deck. Lev, not quite two, reads the New York Times' Book Review while sitting in his mother's lap. The point of the slide is that reading apps (iPad publications, iBooks, e-Readers, etc.) have a long way to go to match the...

Maarten: I read this post through Google Translate, but I almost don't need to because you are talking about the Tour de France. Every fan knows the great landmarks.
This is fantastic news, have a great time.
Please tell the story of how your trip goes. I am very interested to know where you decide to go along the route and how close you are able to get to the route before you have to park or abandon your car.
The last time I saw the Tour in person was 10 years ago in 2001. That year Kathleen and I were at Alpe d'Huez, Chamrousse, and the Champs-Elysées believe it or not: http://www.operationgadget.com/2004/07/watching_the_to.html.
We had great luck getting to places where we were right next to the action at great moments in the history of the Tour. I wish the same for you.
Zot plan? Absoluu...
The smile on Sparky's face speaks volumes about the man. I wish I could see the look on your face as well.
r.i.p. sparky anderson
One of my most vivid childhood memories is being lucky enough to go down on the field for batting practice at Wrigley before an afternoon Cubs / Reds game. Everything was larger than life -- the field, the stadium, the players. Everything except Sparky Anderson, who squatted down and had a short...
My family will love this post Natalie. Thank you for writing it.
Favorited: Six Apart
Today is my last day at Six Apart. It's been 3.5 years with an outstandingly clever and humane group of unforgettable friends. I dedicate this Apperceptive/Six Apart-NYC montage to all of you. [WARNING] This is a long, photo-intensive, inside-joke-ridden post. I start things off with the doo...

You may not have realized it Mark, but I learned a lot from you. Thank you.
Less talk, more rock
I've been trying to rationalize the decision, but it's clear what feels right to me. With the dissolution of Six Apart into the Say Media cocktail, I choose not to follow in the new adventure of some great people I've worked with during, in a few cases, all 6½ years I've been with the company. W...
I think the original is the best opening title sequence in TV history.
Hawaii Five 0 knows how to make an intro.
via www.youtube.com Better than the new one, I think, but I can tell they treaded gingerly on what already worked.

How Apple Corp Uses Twitter
Could be better, right? And as Dave Aiello notes, the verified account status is completely absurd.

I've never been to a game at Citi Field, but you are 100 percent right about everything you're saying.
On Mets Attendance
A recent New York Times article about the Mets' attendance is being widely discussed in the Metsosphere: "After 22 home games, attendance at Citi Field is down 6,852 fans a game, the largest decline by number in Major League Baseball." Shannon from The Mets Police: "You kids won’t believe how ma...
The big problem I see is no http://www.sportsgrid.com/nhl/.
sports grid
Rex Sorgatz (for Dan Abrams) launches Sports Grid, which I think could be (inadequately, narrow-mindedly) pitched as "ESPN meets The Awl." > Our goal is a simple one: to cover the culture of sports and entertainment, as well as the media personalities who talk and write about it, in a fun, compel...
