I must have led a sheltered life - I had not heard that one before but someone sent me a message a couple of days back with that notation. Life is like a roll of toilet paper - it says... Continue reading

How will you answer your grandchildren who stand - maybe accusingly - in front of you asking "... and what did you do to help save our planet grandad?" Continue reading

You think you know your history? Well perhaps you do, but to stand next to it, look at it, have an Egyptologist read the hieroglyph and explain what went on ... is just awesome and that's not a word I generally like using. Continue reading

We tell our children to share. As adults do we encourage sharing, or is it all about possessing? Continue reading

And so to 2019; I keep wishing people a Happy New Year, but I am sorry to say that it comes with a "rider", as I add - "I hope it will prove to be better than it currently looks and that we will be pleasantly surprised" Continue reading

Amongst my more annoying habits - and people will tell you I do have a few - is a fascination with words. Etymology, the study of the history and origin of words and phrases is, to me anyway, a source... Continue reading

Oh where is all this going to end up? Rhetorical question I guess. I know I have been somewhat quiet of late - put it down in part to there being far too many stories about the POTUS, and a... Continue reading

Julius Caesar I would suggest was not the only person to ignore the words of a soothsayer to his misfortune. You will of course remember the timely warning from Shakespeare, advising Caesar to "Beware the Ides of March". So, ignoring... Continue reading

Well let's face it - everything's relative isn't it! (Rhetorical). Grumpy? Well, increasingly so I fear as the world order changes to one that instead of being inclusive seems to revel in introspection, intolerance and isolation; a lack of compassion... Continue reading

Happy New Year - Occidental, and Oriental when it comes. Apologies for the delayed First Post for the year, but let me explain. I don’t know about you but there is a sinking feeling that always exists after Christmas when... Continue reading

It’s odd, I suppose in that in myself I am not as pessimistic as the Blog might indicate - but then I am in a rather more privileged position than very many others and frankly I care more about them. On Ms Park - and you raise an interesting point. Like you I suspect, when I see something like the original I do try and check on its veracity. This is partly why it has taken me two weeks to include it in my Blog. The link you have attached, and a number of others I have looked at - called into question some of the story and the background. That said some of the apparent inconsistencies have been given an explanation. I have also checked with some contacts I trust, and I am satisfied that the general thrust of the message, which is what interested me, checks out, so I felt sufficiently confident about including it. Happy New Year

This time of year traditionally, and for a whole variety of reasons, is known as being a season of goodwill. I have to be honest and say that this year, more than most, has left me with more a feeling... Continue reading

When you hear stories about injustice in countries such as China, Indonesia, Zimbabwe the natural reaction from the west is to shrug and say, "well, what do you expect from these developing or third world countries"? Uncivilised, corrupt, uneducated and... Continue reading
