Hello again! I didn't mean to be gone so long, but I did get my in-home child care licensed!! Fun projects have all been put on hold, but here is one we managed to squeeze in a while ago: snap painting, from the irresistible ideas for play based learning blog. Continue reading

I stumbled upon a lavender festival, held at Mountain Farm, while browsing blogs a few mornings ago. I adore lavender and have wanted to make lavender wands with the kids for a while. When I saw them listed as an activity at the festival, I knew it was a festival for our family! Continue reading

I loved this post at The Artful Parent and couldn't wait to try it with my kids. Asher and I made the one in the photo above and he enjoyed it so much! I am sure we will do it again, especially since the flowers are putting off moisture under the contact paper (we didn't dry the flowers first); I expect mold any day now. Continue reading

I have been wanting to make the egg paint from the small things blog since I first saw it a few months ago. We recently had enough extra eggs to make a go of it yesterday, and I am so glad that we did. I didn't feel too bad about using the pastels either, because: a) nobody uses them and b) I got them for 50 cents at a yard sale. The kids both thoroughly enjoyed making the paint- from beginning to finish. It was actually one of our most successful projects in terms of child involvement and joy. Continue reading

Thanks Jenny!! No, it's not my own design. I wanted to put the link, but it wasn't a straightforward one... you have to have a username and password to get to it.

I haven't been knitting very much lately, with all of the warm weather and the correlating work and play to be done outside, but this project got me back into knitting all over again! My original intent was to save the set for his Christmas gift (or at least for Halloween), but he saw me knitting it, knew what it was and wanted to wear it immediately! What can I say... I have a soft spot for my little dino! Continue reading

We've had gem mining on our wish-list of activities for a long time, and I was so happy to get pointed in the direction of Randall Glen Farm by my lovely friend, Briana. She and her daughter, Amara, accompanied us and we had a great time. Here are some photos from the day. Continue reading

I have seen some searches on my blog for the family rules canvas that could be seen in the background of an Easter photo, so I have decided to go ahead and do a post about it. It was a really great activity that nourished my creative side while at the same time allowed me to think about what I feel are important values to share with my children. Continue reading

First of all, I have to point out the luscious grass underneath Esme's new seed satchel (we ended up giving her original one away for a birthday gift)!!! I aerated the soil with a hand tiller and planted grass seed with Esme' and a little girl in my child care. It has grown in so nicely and I am excited to do the other half of the yard. Continue reading

I am so grateful to be a mom today, and our family has had a beautiful day. It all started with a visit to the Early Girl Eatery, which has been my favorite place for breakfast ever since I moved to Asheville 8 years ago (after tasting the bland bacon this morning, however, I may change my mind). While waiting for our table, we walked around the Wall St. neighborhood a bit. Continue reading

There are so many ways to use Legos!! I Was so impressed to look over one day and see what Esme' has done. I kind of want to ask her to spell "Where We Are" so I can use it for my banner. Stay tuned on that.... Continue reading

I first saw the idea for painting with cotton balls and Q-tips over at The Artful Parent. We have tried it before, but I don't think I have shared it with you all. The kids came straight to the table when they saw what was on it, and they were focused for quite a while with this project (they each did at least two full paintings). We will surely do this again! Continue reading
