I adore photographing newborns and families with young kids. The sessions are full of laughs and tickles and silliness. However, it's undeniable that clients that do as I request without needing cajoling or bribes, who settle into a snuggle without trying to wriggle away, do make my job that slight... Continue reading

I have recently added a new question to the questionnaire I send out before newborn photography sessions. I love photographing touch - it's my love language - and that can be especially wonderful skin on skin. In additional to seeing some gorgeous baby skin, how do you and your partner... There is something wonderful about spending time with first time parents of a newborn baby. Their amazement at what they have created is so apparent, and it's lovely to observe, photograph and preserve some of these precious moments for them. Continue reading

What is a Fresh 48 session? A Fresh 48 session is a style of newborn photography held within 48 hours of your baby's birth, generally in hospital but home births can be catered for too. There is something so real and intimate about Fresh 48 sessions, when your little one... Continue reading

I think Autumn has to be my favourite Melbourne season; a time of scarves and boots, wood fires, crisp mornings and the gorgeous colour of autumn leaves. There is something wonderful about a pile of crackly autumn leaves that brings out the playfulness in all of us. I challenge you... Continue reading

What to Wear for a Family Photo Session if you are Overly Curvaceous (Plus Size) That's how I choose to describe myself, overly curvaceous, and man is it hard to find examples like me and my family when I look for inspiration before we have a family photo session. (Because... Continue reading

I love celebrating. Sure, as you get older birthdays (and Easter, Christmas, school holidays...) maybe aren't as exciting as they used to be, but why not celebrate them anyway? There's 364 other days of the year to have just a regular ordinary day so, given the opportunity, why not make... Continue reading

Today I woke to this email from my Mum, sharing some thoughts on the day before when she had looked after Milly, and Emma for a little while too. Just an ordinary day and a weekly occurrence. With two young kids, Mike's shift work and business to run, life often... Continue reading

New year, new goals. Life has been a little chaotic lately - we bought a new house! - and it has often felt like Mike and I are being pulled in separate directions as we tackle different tasks, priorities and kids. We're trying to get back into the routine of... Continue reading

There is never a 'wrong age' to take newborn photos. Sure, if you're after the very styled, baby sleeping all curled up and posed newborn photography then that's a bit different, but for photos of you loving on your new little baby - natural and genuine, capturing that sense of... Continue reading

So often I walk away from a photo session thinking, 'It's this. This is my favourite type of session.' Because I genuinely love my job. I get to meet incredible people and be welcomed into their homes and lives to witness and capture love. Seriously, it's awesome. But when I... Continue reading
Thanks Mary-Lou! At that stage we didn’t know if the bump contained a boy or girl, so didn’t want to go crazy girly. :)

Photo by Amy Rushbrook. This sketch from the Simple Scrapper membership collection was perfect for showing off this photo from my maternity photo session with the lovely Amy Rushbrook. (I can take a decent photo, but taking one of myself or with my family is a whole different story!) I... Continue reading

Two weeks ago today we brought Emma home from the hospital. I had to stop and think about that for a moment, because man, that time has flown. I've been asked what feels different about becoming a Mum the second time around; it feels less all encompassing but so much... Continue reading

Milly at 10 days old / Emma at 6 days old. That photo of Milly is up on our wall - just an office store print that I quickly had done for her first birthday party that I liked so much I've never taken it down - and wanted to... Continue reading

Thanks Mary-Lou! Edgley was the surname of Mike’s maternal grandparents, his Mum’s maiden name. Just like we chose Mawson as Milly’s middle name which was my Mum’s maiden name, Mike wanted to honour some of the strong women in his family. :)

Day 14: My little nudie-rudie, hanging out in the boat with her Dad in the driveway, while he does some repairs. Love the squishy hug here, hanging onto Dad's arm with all her might. Day 15: This is the day we headed away for a couple nights and I realised... Continue reading

So... it's no longer anywhere near February, or even March for that matter, but I do have the rest of the month's photos to share. Honestly, I didn't do so great with the daily aspect - more than a few sessions with my camera provided more than one day's worth... Continue reading
