Thanks for sharing this story D. It is unacceptable that bullying is seen as part of growing up. We are lucky that we had a great family to help us through the rough patches of childhood. I hope that everyone that reads this will speak up the next time they witness bullying. When do nothing, it is as bad as doing it yourself. Love you! Dani

Thank you all for your comments, we really love comments! When we were all cleaned up my daughter turned to me and said, "I never knew I could have so much fun with string and goop!" Daniele

Thanks for sharing this tip! Any idea if it works on regular clothing? My children's clothing gets SO stained, I have the hardest time getting them clean!
Love the muddy feet - I have a picture like this but only they're covered in ice pops! ;) Here's ours for today:

Thanks Jessica! I love that it's pretty much an "unbreakable" vase. No biggie if my kids knock it over!

I always seem to be throwing out a lot of plastic bottles. As my daughter was wandering around our yard picking flowers I came up with a use for those bottles. Once the top was cut off the bottom became an unbreakable outdoor vase. And to my surprise, my daughter came up with a use for the tops. A "flower wand". Continue reading

Toggle Commented May 10, 2011 on Chocolate-Hazelnut and Banana Crepe at We Know Stuff
I had found this recipe for crepes with chocolate-hazelnut and bananas a few months ago in the Martha Stewart Everyday Food magazine. I usually test out new recipes in the late evenings when my children have gone to bed. Of course every time I would pull out the recipe I would see the footnote to puree the crepe batter in a blender. Ugh. There was just no way I was going to risk turning on the blender and waking up my sleeping giants. Continue reading

They are very similar to hash browns. I told my daughter it was like a giant french fry. She loved them (so did I!)

Sunday was such a beautiful day around here that it inspired me to make potato pancakes. I was determined to spend as little time in the kitchen as possible. I needed some sort of side dish to go with our steak and corn on the cob dinner. I knew I had a few lonely potatoes hanging out in my pantry. I realized I could pretty easily sit in the backyard peeling and grating potatoes while the kids played. Continue reading

Thanks Jessica & Nourhan! They were really yummy! (I think they would have been even better with kosher salt, but I didn't have any!)

I found this recipe for Soft Pretzels in a Gooseberry Patch magazine. I had a little extra time over the weekend and thought they would be a perfect afternoon snack for the kids. I have to admit, my pretzel shaping skills definitely need some work. My daughter told me "It tastes like a pretzel, but the shape is really not right." Oops. At least they tasted good! That was his second outfit of the day! The first one that I picked out for him to perfectly match his sister was covered in mud the second he stepped outside!

You are INSANE. This is the coolest craft I have seen in a while! Can't wait to play dress up dolls with Baby-Girl! Daniele
My sister has this theory, that our kids (hers and mine) will eat anything in a muffin. This is why we have a ridiculous amount of muffins posts on our blog. I was recently complaining to her about my son being on a vegetable strike lately. Continue reading

The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation provides important services to the neglected, abandoned, and surrendered pets on the East End of Long Island. Without the Foundation, 225 cats and dogs would have been put in jeopardy as of January 1, 2010 when the Town of Southampton determined they no longer had a budget to operate the municipal shelter and would shut it down. The Foundation was created and the shelter was privatized after many months of negotiations with the town. Continue reading

I was looking for an Easter craft to do with my kids and came across Family Fun's Bluebird Egg craft. It involves decorating empty egg shells. We decided to make Bunny Eggs. All you need are eggs, paint, glue and some extras you have laying around the house. Continue reading

Thanks! It was a fun mess to make. The kids have been wearing the baskets on their head and they are holding up really well. I didn't know papier-mâché was indestructible!
Lynn, love the idea of adding the fresh mozzerella & tomatoes! I will keep your idea in mind this summer when I don't know what to do with all my extra tomatoes!

Trish - as I was having it with sauce I kept thinking about meatballs! I can't believe I am saying this, but I prefer the spaghetti squash to regular spaghetti. Can't wait to try it with some turkey meatballs!

When we were kids their was only one rule in our house when it came to new food. We only had to "try" it. If we really hated it we could go about finishing the rest of our dinner. One night this rule was really put to the test. Continue reading

Lisa great idea with the blueberries, I'll try that next time! I am guessing the addition of the berries and butter add to the baking time.
