So, here's the update I promised last week: I'm thrilled to join DotCloud as a software engineer, starting May. Many of you have seen the news that they recently shipped the support for its Perl stack that I know a lot of Perl hackers are excited about. As they point out in the post, I contributed my experience and knowledge for them to build the perl support, but it was actually an hour of whiteboarding session to figure out what the right stack would be (i.e. uWSGI and PSGI, perlbrew, local::lib and cpanminus for a start, but more support to come), and the following few hours of hacking to just build it. It was so much fun and inspiring to... Continue »

The Giants are going to the World Series! What a season, what a set of personalities. Not surprisingly, I'd love to see them win but at this point just taking the pennant is so well deserved by a team that has more personality than any team I've ever watched, save the 1986 Mets. But those Mets were the bad kids, doing drugs in the back of the bus and generally causing mayhem across the league. The 2010 Giants are more like the freaks and geeks crowd. Just my kind of people. I want to point out that I called this... Continue »

Entertainment Weekly interviews The Simpsons producer Al Jean about the Banksy opening sequence. Did you learn more about the identity of Banksy? I never met him. Even my emails back and forth to him, I would email Bonnie, who would... Continue »

Six Apart acquired by VideoEgg. End of an era since I've been with 6A pretty much since the beginning, working in that old dental office, hammering away on emails seated between the CEO and President. We used to all go to lunch together way back then. I got married and had a daughter while at 6A. I got to be totally open about who I am (i.e. a Burner), and got to work closely with Tokyo, my home. It's a new chapter, and this makes sense in many ways. But this is a biggie...no more "Six Apart" where we called... Continue »

Last night we babysat Fia...or more like Fia came over to play and then sleep until her parents got home from their dinner. Very easy, and fun for T. After dinner and playing, I ended up offering to put a bit of a movie on for them, and I let Fia choose the movie in spite T's protests. I said Fia was our "guest" so we should let her choose. In the end, I found Curious George that they both wanted to see, but still, I had clearly given priority to Fia. At bedtime, I then also let Fia choose... Continue »

A few days ago, I tweeted this: Less than an hour later, someone texted my actual ex-boyfriend (not the fictional one in the tweet) to tell him that I was "talking shit" about him on the Internet. Now, I think... Continue »

We would have a family dinner at home most nights of the week. Regardless of what I was doing I had to be home by 7pm. (My kids still remember mom secretly feeding them when they were hungry at 5pm, but eating again with dad at 7pm.) But we would use dinner time to talk about what they did at school, have family meetings etc. Put the kids to bed. Since I was already home for dinner it was fun to help give them their baths, read them stories and put them to bed. I never understood how important the... Continue »

via www.flickr.com A week since I bought Panasonic GF1 ... I absolutely love this camera, and the default pancake lens is so awesome. It gives you a pretty good contrast and colors with a night shot (you might need some tweaks to make it look darker), Great bokeh when you take macro shots, and reasonably good 720p HD videos, with manual focus control (or auto-focus as well, but i like the manual control better!). And it is lighter than a DSLR camera because it's a micro four-thirds model. What else do you need? :) Continue »
