I have admired your market tote bags since I first saw them years ago and would love to have one in my possession! I am a "carry as many bags as I can at once" person myself. Thanks for offering your beautiful handwork!
Summer Sewing (and a giveaway!)
Last July was a rough one for me. A bad case of poison ivy left my hands immobilized for much of the month, and the extreme heat... well, it's not my favorite. I made a promise to myself that I'd plan ahead for this July, heading outside into the heat only before 8am and after 5pm, whenever po...

It truly warmed my heart to hear this big news of yours. It is so rare and so right--this intergenerational living and loving and sharing. I am inspired as always by checking in with your brood!
under construction
There are a great many projects taking place around here this season. There is a small 'barn' in progress for all the (goat) kids and lambs to be born in the spring. There are the arrivals of said responsible bucks and rams. And perhaps (I hope) the arrival of another critter or two for the p...
Oh, my! I love these shoes this business, and the name! Thanks so much for offering.

Last Spring was a whirlwind of work. I was wrapping up my new book for Chronicle (more on this next week) and was able to fit in shooting this wonderful cookbook by Portland-based Ivy Manning, Crackers & Dips: More Than 50 Handmade Snacks. I worked with an incredible team of friends includi...
My six-and-a-half year old son's tastes change every time we cook together. We made a pressure cooker corn, potato and celery chowder the other day. He chopped the celery and discovered he loved the taste and texture of it and wants in all the time now. I sneak veggies in things now and then, cut up plates of healthy snacks and dips for snacks, "deconstruct" mixed dishes for him, and puree his soup/chowder while leaving ours chunky. We use a lot of different strategies, but more and more he is willing to eat versions of things we eat. I love these discussions and learn so much each time!
Healthy Eating with a Teenager
Wonderfully immersed in the teen years of complete immortality, my girl does not always see the value of nutrient dense foods. It's funny to me because you'd think if you build those habits when they're young... Well, when Emily was a young girl she would do just about anything to avoid a ...
I just love that natural browny-gray color! I'm dreaming of having some of my own.
first skein
One hundred and thirty yards of an inconsistent Aran weight. That's what the very first of my wheel spinning resulted in. The skeins that have followed are of a much different weight and far more consistent...so this one will stand on its own as something. I've thought long - oh so long -...
