Life has been a bit busy. After my grandfather passed away in 2012, I have had the pleasure of taking care of my grandma two days a week. For those that have a loved one with dementia you can agree that your entire life changes when they are in your care. Many things in my life have had to be simplified & unfortunately removed at times. My blog was one of those casualties. My grandmother is 91 so time with her to make memories is short. So, I thought I might share her with you. Continue reading

I picked up a copy of Sumerset Life at Michael's tonight and was thrown at the editor, Christen Olivarez's, letter! In the first paragraph she basically sums up what I have been feeling! A "creative rut"! She talks about how difficult that can be on someone who is a creative soul. Someone who looks at being a creative person as her identity. I am that person - I am a creative soul that right now is stuck in the day to day responsibilities of life. Let me get this straight - I am not complaining at all! I have an... Continue reading

Last weekend we had a nice surprise... Windows and doors on the house! I love watching the journey of our house being built. Although the people that work on our house everyday look at this as a job site - to me they are building our home. A place where we can create memories together - make new friends - build a community. Looking out of these windows, my husband and I have dreamt of many memories yet to come - my daughter getting married, my son graduating from high school, bucktown bocce in our backyard, greeting grandchildren, but most... We prayed... Then waited... Prayed a little more... And waited... Then our prayer was answered. We were on a list for a VERY popular floor plan - the chances were that we wouldn't get one. We were #3 with only 2 houses left available. Then someone dropped out & the builder decided to add a couple more of this plan.....and we became #2! On the day of the release we went down to the builder office & picked our location - the site of the new Jefferson home. Needless to say, we are all very excited!! We go by every... Continue reading

I have a problem with paper. It is EVERYWHERE! I never know how to organize things so that I don't end up a mess - for when it comes to paper - I am always a mess! Does this sound like another resolution in the making? I don't know...It may be too much to ask of myself. I may be setting myself up for failure here. (wink) I guess I will have to have a date with the shredder! My new mantra is going to be "purge & shred!" Maybe in our next home I can set up a system... Continue reading

I have been sewing for years - crafts, pillows, curtains, quilts & costumes - but I have no idea on where to begin when wanting to make clothing. I don't have a clue about reading patterns or what size I would be. I have been disappointed in the quality of clothing available in stores - things just seem cheaply made - even when paying a high price for the item. So, I want to learn how to make my own clothes - or at least an item or two. I signed up for a beginning sewing class. They teach you... Continue reading

That should be a a warning label attached to my wrist for all to see. PROJECTS UNFINISHED Don't get me wrong - I do finish "some" of my projects - but lots remain in the "need to finish" pile. I am not sure why I have a hard time "finishing" things. I get bored, get busy and don't pick it up again, get stuck or don't like what the item is becoming. The biggest excuse of course if that I find something else I want to try more than finish what I started! I guess I should then the question... Continue reading

I can not believe half of January has come and gone! Time just seems to elude me! We have been busy in the Jefferson household - as usual :) I don't think we know any "other" way. We had a fabulous Christmas with family and friends, went to Disneyland & rang the New Year in on the couch - I did wake up enough to get my midnight kiss ;) The New Year was a little quiet this year - yes, we did get the occasional M-80 "BOOM" from the park - but our neighborhood is pretty boring. We have... Continue reading

We have had a death in the family. My grandfather Charles Francis O'Connor passed away on September 12, 2012. At the time of his passing he was 94 years old. I can't even begin to tell you how this man impacted the people around him. He was an amazing man. Patient, kind, honorable, and dedicated are only some of the wonderful things said about him. We had the memorial service on November 3rd. My grandfather was a Native Son of the Golden West. During his lifetime he was involved with two parlors 66 & 86. His "brothers" came out and... I haven't participated in Julia's "What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday" in quite some time. It all comes down to not blogging much & then having a bicep repair surgery! But here I am joining these talented women to showcase what we are working on this week. If you would like to join us, pop on over to Julia's blog and sign up! My daughter has been asked to be the Maid of Honor for her best friend's wedding in October. Along with the day of the wedding duties, the Maid of Honor hosts a shower for the bride to be.... I am now 43 & loving it! My husband and kids surprised me with a weekend of family & fun. Santa Cruz, The Crows Nest, a walk on the beach & a night in a hotel! I had a wonderful time. First - We headed up to Santa Cruz on Highway 17 - those of you from the area know how bad traffic can be on this stretch of highway - we got stuck...behind a car fire. But, being us, we turned off the car, turned up the music, laughed and talked. We made the most of the situation. Before... Continue reading

Back in 1990, my husband became a part of a basketball group called "Bucktown". This was a group of guys from the bay area who would meet at different gyms or parks to play basketball on the weekends (or during the week if they could swing it!) As the years went on the men got married, had kids, careers, and lives. The group spread out all over the world - but the friendships built so long ago have survived. On August 17th the "Bucktown" family got together for our second annual BBQ & Bocce ball tournament. We eat, tease, play... Continue reading

My husband came back from the Big Jim's BBQ class raving about how much he learned in the class. He listened to lecture, learned new techniques, met fellow BBQers and ate lots of amazing food - to say he had a good time would be an understatement! He LOVED the class. During a class break he text messaged me to tell me that he would like to get a smoker. I jumped on that right away - for this means LOTS of delicious food for our dinner table! That afternoon while hubby was learning away, my son and I headed... Continue reading

In October of last year we lost our pup to cancer. He was a Belgian Malinois mix and was the absolute BEST dog I have ever owned. If you are a pet owner, you can understand that it was one of the most difficult times in our lives. Best of buds: Jengo with Marley. One night my husband was on FB and noticed that his friend's dog had had puppies. She was looking for homes for the puppies and had posted pictures of the litter. Here is the husband KNOWS me. He knew that the moment he opened his... Continue reading

Last year I signed up for Like a lot of people I know, I love looking at the deals - but never REALLY purchase anything. Then one afternoon I came across a deal for a BBQ cooking class at Big Jim's BBQ in San Rafael that took me from a browser to a buyer. My husband is the BBQ master in our home. He makes THE most excellent steak and tri-tip. His steak is so amazing that it makes it difficult to order one at a restaurant for fear of disappointment. I have always wanted to send my husband... My son has started 8th grade and we had an opportunity to meet his teachers at Back to School Night last night. It is always nice to get a feel for what he will be learning this year. (or I will be re-learning! lol!) Although he is in middle school, I still like to do something nice for the teachers to show them that they are appreciated. Our mascot is a yellow jacket & last year I found a cookie cutter at Tin Works on that was THE perfect yellow jacket. The company will even make a cookie cutter... Continue reading

Go check it out! & start "pinning!" Continue reading

Happy New Year! I have been MIA for awhile - but I will try & be better in 2012. We have been busy this last half of the year. My son has been diagnosed with swelling in his small intestine. They haven't labeled it as Crohn's yet - but life has been rough. The pain started on his lower right hand side of his abdomen & we thought - uh-oh appendix. We took him to the doctor & he immediately sent us to the emergency room. Well, after a week of my son being in the hospital on pain meds... Continue reading

Well, it has been a long while since I have posted - why...I was playing! We went to the beach, water park, Six Flags, basketball camp and hung out with friends. Tomorrow is the first day of school for us - so, our not so "lazy" days of summer have come to an end. (sigh) This of course means that I have to be up at "O" dark thirty in the morning to get us out the door in time. This is going to be tough for me. I made sure my son was getting to be early to prepare... Continue reading

Today we are rushing around getting our bags packed for our flight to Louisiana. We are headed to visit family in Shreveport for the holiday. Our little family is looking forward to some good "Southern BBQ"! My uncle is going to get on the "pit" for us...I am sure I will come home a few pounds heavier! While there, I am going to try an see the Logan mansion. It is a Queen Anne style private home that gives tours by appointment. I will have my camera & if it is allowed I promise to take lots of pictures to... Continue reading

I am one of those unfortunate people that have to watch spring come alive from an indoor window. I love all the beautiful flowers, but their pollen - well, it takes me out of commission. The last couple years it has gotten worse - I end up with painful headaches. This spring, even with all the medication (OTC & script) I have tried, my headache has lasted two weeks (so far). I am heading to the doctor today in hopes he will give me my yearly shot a bit early and give me some relief. Wish me luck! Continue reading

I often ask myself why I always have to do things my own way. Why do I have to alter someone else's pattern & creativity to suit my own? It would be so much easier to copy the other person's pattern exactly and save myself the frustration. BUT, I always change things to fit "me". With that said, I have been working on Anne Sutton's "Henrietta Whiskers" applique quilt. Yep, you guessed it....I have had to make it my own. I love Anne Sutton's designs - they are beautiful - but, Henrietta was a bit too "country" looking for my... Continue reading

Yep, February is here - can you believe it! I feel like I just finished packing away Christmas! I have some fun news....I am doing a block of the month quilt at a local quilt shop with Bunny Hill designs. I am very excited! The quilt is called "Henrietta Whiskers" and you can find the FREE pattern on the Bunny Hill Blog web-site. Anne Sutton was as sweet as she is on her blog! She was so encouraging and gave us lots of tips on how she works on her applique. And, oh my goodness!!! Her quilts are AMAZING in... Continue reading

I have always wanted to go skydiving. Yes...jump out of a perfectly good plane. However, as I have gotten older & had children, I have found that the risk does not out weigh the reward. Dreams do not die easily and so, for my son's 12th birthday we decided to try indoor skydiving! Yes... INDOOR! So, the family and a couple friends went to a place called ifly in Union City, Ca. It was great! You slip into this tall chamber and There is an instructor with you & they keep you upright - but basically you just float... Continue reading
