Oh my, those last lines sound quite like how I expect my little Colin to be (5 months just now). He's quiet, content, always smiling, but wants EVERYTHING in his mouth! Don't know how I'm going to manage things with two Lego fanatics in the house.
I just love the clothes! I must get a pants pattern, when I draw my own they never turn out right.
with a little bit of color
"Summer" came last week in a stretch of record-setting high temperatures. Those days found us outside with sandals and shorts, with the kids asking for trips to the lake and ice cream for dinner (alas, the local ice cream shops weren't quite geared up for the season yet. Never one to miss an o...
So very precious. My new boy is just 11 days old - I read your post and sang Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer to him, and he gave me two big smiles!
these days, this girl
These days, this baby girl of ours is almost six months old. These days, I am knowing the expression "growing before your very eyes." These days, she is passed around at gatherings from person to person, giggling all the while. These days, she finds her thumb and falls asleep on that great bi...
Oh how many times have I asked my son not to wipe his hands on his shirt. He found an alternative solution of course - now he wipes them in his hair! Napkin shmapkin...
why I need to buy new clothes for my son
There are three reasons why I need to buy new clothes for my son: Growth. Messy food consumption. (e.g., strawberries, those stupid yogurt tubes) Napkin blindness. No, really. He is unable to see napkins. Or even admit that they exist. Which makes sense because he physically can't see t...
Two weeks ago we left our home in surbubia and rented a cottage built half over a lake, and it was truly wonderful exploring the beaches and hiking trails with our three year old. He looked forward to visiting the forest every day, and rocks from the beach were his "toys". How I wish we didn't have to drive three hours to find such a place, so we could go more regularly.
into the woods
Yesterday, we spent the day in the woods. Not our woods, but a destination nearby, on public land, where our family gathers regularly with other homeschooling families. Getting all seven of us out the door at a designated morning time is a tricky thing. It's not necessarily a pretty thing. I n...
Does this ever bring back memories. I knit the sweetest sweater vest for my (then) 2 year old, who screamed and ran every time I tried to put it on him. I couldn't even get one picture of him wearing it! http://ravel.me/DreamyMama/phmcibv
I'm planning on starting baby #2 in handknits from birth, it'll be a while before he can run ;)
the rejected handmade sweater...illustrated with crappy pictures™
I've decided to make my 3 year old a sweater. It is going to be awesome. Reconstructed. Upcycled. This is what all the cool crafters are doing. I am determined (despite my sleep deprivation) to get some late night crafty time in. So late one night, I sneak away upstairs to sew. And sew. ...
I just laughed out loud - the term "Ketchup plants" will now forever live in my mind. Go Harper!
notes from my garden
Garden Notes: :: Lots of you have been asking about my straw hat. I found it my local farm & feed store. Oh yes, that's right - high farm fashion (but not nearly as fashionable as these). And, by the way, if you're looking for a way to embarass your own tween, I'd recommend ...
Wow, what a perfect addition to a beautiful corner - I'm truly amazed at the transformation! Now I REALLY must get on with sprucing up our old, stained kitchen chairs...
and be kind
This little lovely was headed for a burn pile (literally). What's that, you say? A burn pile is precisely where it belongs? Well, that's just what my parents said, and Steve said, as it was sent away not once but twice. Oh, but I got it back, and knew I only had a matter of time to do somethin...
I was happy to see recommendations in Canada change a couple of years ago - they are supposed to be re-training doctors to do natural breech births! I expect it will take a while for it to become common practice though: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/c-section-not-best-option-for-breech-birth/article1186104/
I'm so happy you got your homebirth, I had been very curious about how it went for you this time!
I love the little outfits. My husband and I were absolulely convinced we were having a girl this time - the the ultrasound two weeks ago revealed BOY - I was so shocked I was hysterical! I can't imagine how much more upside-down I would have been in the delivery room, with all those hormones thrown in the mix.
she
There's something I didn't tell you before Annabel was born. I knew she was a she. Well, really, I knew she was a girl way back in October, because sometimes a Mama just knows these things, you know? It's true. And I just knew. But we knew for certain a few weeks before her arrival, at my fi...
So glad to hear a bit more about your family's first month with this sweet little girl, and that it was so rich. I'm nervous about introducing baby #2 in October (I'll have two boys!), but I know it will all fall into place eventually :)
Take care.
one month
Little miss Annabel has just turned one month old. It has been - without a doubt - one of the quickest, and yet most beautiful and memorable months of my life. Nearly two months ago now, I found myself at the end of a pregnancy that had been more tiring and challenging than any of the others...

So sweet... I have a three year old boy and just found out that he will be joined by a baby BROTHER in October. I'll stick around to read more about this new world of brotherhood we're about to enter :) Your boys just look so sweet!
brothers more often than not
My two boys... After 20 months, I can finally say they get along more often than not. They enjoy playing with each other more often than not. They cooperate and share with each other more often than not. They make each other (and me) laugh more often than not. And I'm relishing bei...
Oh look at those sweet little fingers... too precious for words.

{this moment} - A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. If you're inspired to do the same, leave a link to your 'moment' in the comments for all to find and see. . . . ....
Such a beautiful little being, and a beautiful way to spend her first days in this world, surrounded by quiet love. I'm brought to tears again.
SoulePapa Blogs :: The First Days
Wow. We would like to thank each and every one of you that took a moment out of your own day to welcome baby Annabel. I imagine all of those kind thoughts and words soaking into her body like warm rays of sunshine, filling her with the very building blocks of love itself. We return this lo...
Ha! Those muddy little legs made me laugh out loud :D

I love the hat, I wonder if my son would actually wear one this summer if I made it with fabric he picked, hmmm...
I especially love how NOT impressed Mr. Rooster looked as he got kissed there, ha!
Little Things to Sew :: a hat for my chicken girl
Did you see that Liesl GIbson, of Oliver + S has a book out - Little Things to Sew? I've been eager to get my hands on it, except then it did arrive and it only made me more eager to get sewing in the midst of not a lot of sewing time at the moment. But thankfully, the book is true to the titl...
Ha! "I'm part machine! I'll think of that line every time you blog now :) I'm glad to hear your recovery is going so well, especially with all that wood to pile (that chore stopped being fun for me after the first year I did it as a child...).
SoulePapa Blogs :: Ready to Spring
So, there I was laid out like a Christmas turkey at the mercy of my doctors and nurses and in the hands of fate and the Gods above (or below as the fates may have it). No overwhelming sense of nostalgia or doom, just a calm belief that I was doing the right thing. Okay, also a strong hope that...
Oh my, this post had me laughing! The poplar, the spilled sap, Harper "crashing" in the sled - I am just loving your new farm adventures! We use nothing but real maple syrup here too, though ours is from Costco ;) Lovely jars of deliciousness you have there.
precious as gold
This year, I've fallen completely head over heels in love with maple syrup. Not the maple syrup itself - though that is quite nice. No, we've always loved that, and it's always found a way into our regular grocery budget, even at times when perhaps it shouldn't have. Though now I fully underst...
I love that blue and yellow ball of yarn in the top left of that first photo - so cheery!
These days, I'm obsessed with finding the perfect baby knitting patterns - in another six weeks I should hopefully have the energy to actually knit again after work!
in the studio :: beginnings
There's nothing like cleaning a big long-worked-on project off the studio table, or out of the basket, as the case may be. Suddenly, space is left in it's wake, and the possibilities for what comes next are endless. A glance around my studio shows a flurry of beginnings, or re-starts in some cas...
Gah - rollerskating! I'm insanely jealous :D Gorgeous picture as usual.

Now that is REALLY getting creative! Excellent idea for shelves. I absolutely love Ada's room.
This reminds me - I have some pirate embroidery patterns from Sublime Stitching I want to make up and hang on my son's walls - must get on that!
her new corner
Adelaide and Papa cooked up and completed a little carpentry project this weekend. With the legs off my great grandmother's table (for Ezra's door record table), there was a table top left in the barn, waiting for some sort of repurposed purpose. And so, a few leaves of that table made their w...
Nothing like a beautiful belly shot to start my week off - I'm so excited for you!
I most certainly had an inkling of "what's to come" this weekend, as the snow melted completely from our driveway, and the sunlight seemed just *that* much sweeter.
and it goes on
Winter goes on around us. The snow is deep, the temperatures still nothing more than just plain cold, and ice is everywhere. Surely, more snow will come and we will find ourselves once again cozily gathered round the hearth while a wild winter's storm blows outside. We'll follow that with days...
Aww, love the little belly shot! I just found out last week that we're expecting #1, and I've already placed my order for some Quince & Co Chickadee to make these Lovebug Booties! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lovebug-booties
I'm a Eucalan user too, love the lavender scent :)
babes in wool
Just how many sweaters does a newborn baby need? Especially one to be born just before the summer season? And particularly when said little one will be 'inheriting' a stash of existing handknit sweaters from his or her older siblings to wear as well? Oh, probably not this many...but I don't ca...
That last picture made me teary, so very sweet! I love the robe, Harper is just so adorable.
the littlest robe
Another little robe was added to the mix this week - this one for my littlest boy. These robes were originally intended to be given on Solstice, but you know, things happen...tired pregnant Mamas must sleep...children are forgiving, and there's always room for another fresh layer to be added t...
So sweet. My son has taken to hugging my arm tight as I knit beside him on the couch - best part of my day!

Wow - that is the most beautiful braided rug I've ever seen! What a gorgeous creationg - how wonderful that you'll now get to enjoy the results of all that hard work for years to come :)
the rainbow rug
Looking back, I fully admit that this was one of those crazy pregnancy-induced projects. When else would someone find it necessary to spend weeks braiding, piecing, and sewing a rug for a play room? I can answer that! When that very someone found it INCREDIBLY uncomfortable to sit on the floor...
