So, let's see the new glasses!
The Future's So Bright I Gotta Wear Shades
A few weeks ago I was driving when the sun decided to come out so I had to rummage around in my purse with one hand to find my sunglasses. The reason I could only use one hand is because of course I was texting driving with the other, but I did manage to extract the sunglasses from the case and ...

It looks like you shot this photo from your motorcade. Would the Secret Service not let you get out of the SUV?
Shampooing or gunslinging?
I ended up in Dubai for a couple of days last year. It's not a destination I would recommend, but it was a stop along the way to someplace better. Dubai seems like the overindulged love child of Disney World and Las Vegas - surreal and excessively excessive. Water costs more per gallon than o...
Coffee Shops Pulling the Plug on Laptop Users
As a mobile professional, I am in different places almost every day of the week. I think I know just about every coffee shop in the San Francisco Bay Area that has free WiFi (well, at least on the peninsula).... Continue reading

Does Cheap Gasoline Make America Fat?
In the new book $20 Per Gallon: How the Inevitable Rise in the Price of Gasoline Will Change Our Lives for the Better , Chris Steiner claims that an increase in the price of gasoline could go a long way... Continue reading

Wow. Fascinating. You should post close-up photos of some of the details. I'd love to see what some of those little people are doing.
This is really cool, Sarah. That's going to be a killer dining room. Love it.
Dining Room Mural Day #2
The great dining room mural project continues. Here's the before and after from today. It's subtle. It's more refined with a lot more orange. Brian spent a lot of time looking and analyzing, and you can see a lot of elements from day one are gone. A few store fronts are starting to emerge along ...

Be sure to ask lots of questions and make little suggestions. I hear artists really like that.
Tough Call, but One of the Best Parts of My Day
I had a pretty exhilarating day. But one of the more exciting things didn't happen in the blogosphere. Mr. Lacy and I are having our dining room painted by one of our favorite local artists, Brian Barneclo. If you've ever been to Nopa, he did the amazing mural on the wall. We were eating dinner...
Looks very cool so far. Can't wait to see the finished product!

I'm with Thor. A BRIEF break is approved. ;)
Staying Put for a While
I'm about one-third of the way through my 18-month death-march around the world seeking its best entrepreneurs, or as I call it in polite conversation, work on my new book. It's time for a break. Aside from a few day trips here or there I'm sticking in San Francisco for the next six weeks where...
Michael Jackson, Rest in Peace
Almost every Michael Jackson song from the Thriller album reminds me of some event in my teenage years. My friends and I saw him perform more than once both solo and as part of The Jacksons. I can recall watching... Continue reading

The Economics of Seeing a Yankee's Game
I've been doing a lot of thinking and talking about the economics of sports tickets lately, both as a NHL season ticket holder and for a side-project I've been working on. So, this tidbit caught my eye: Tickets to the... Continue reading

Actually, one of the great things about In-n-Out is the quality of the food. Everything is fresh. You can actually see them hand-leafing heads of lettuce, slicing fresh tomatoes, and cutting up potatoes to make fries. The shakes are made from real ice cream.
I'm not saying the food is "good for you"--it is certainly a high-calorie and high-fat meal--but it sure is good.
In-n-Out. That's What a Hamburger's All About
BusinessWeek writer Stacy Perman has written a book about the western fast-food chain In-n-Out Burger. In-n-Out is a California tradition, and by far the best fast food that exists. Perman observes that In-N-Out has prospered by hewing close to the stolid principles of controlled growth, limited...

I'm no genius when it comes to picking individual stocks, so I won't comment there, but I do have this general observation:
It's been in the news recently that hybrid car sales have plummeted as gasoline prices have gone down. Car companies have shifted much of their R&D to technologies for which customers are not going to pay a premium. I expect this will have a long term impact on margins.
Invest in the future, don't bailout the past.
Thomas Friedman hits the nail on the head with this editorial in the New York Times. I wish I had been as clear when I was trying to articulate my opinion on this to a friend the other day. G.M. has become a giant wealth- destruction machine — possibly the biggest in history — and it is time tha...
As a long-time owner of Bose noise-canceling headphones, let me tell you they are worth every penny. I use them on airplanes, on BART, on Caltrain, etc. Buy yourself a pair today, Sarah.
The newer models even have an optional cellphone microphone thingy for taking calls. Pretty cool.
I'm Alive, BTW
Just wanted to say a quick blog hai. Things have been nuts for me lately, and now that I'm officially off Michael Arrington-duty, I am trying to dig out of a swamp of logistical things I've been putting off for weeks. Like, getting emails working on my BlackBerry and getting AT&T out here to fix...
Thanks for the note, Kelset! I've been trying to find a way to stop phone books. I hate getting them--I never use them and they seem so wasteful. I'll take a look at MyJunkTree, although at first glance I see it is not free. One thing I like about these other options is that they do not cost anything.
Thanks again!

Stopping real-world spam
Remember spam? I can remember spending time every day actually deleting all the junk mail from my email inbox. These days, I almost never see it. Oh, I receive more of it than ever--it's just that it is all handled for me. All my email accounts are hosted with Google Apps, and their outstanding...
