I LOVE that whale and ship :) I've never done crewel before. Actually, for some reason it requires less patience for me when I'm working with linen. I don't know, it just goes faster and smoother, and the fabric has a nice soft hand. Try it out some time!

I think I'm going to frame this one. You could always incorporate your finished stitchery pieces into a mini quilt or a cute bag or something!

I have been working on this little cross-stitch project for my sister for SO long. Like, months? I meant to have it finished by her birthday (Sept. 23rd...) But she's coming to visit me next weekend, so that's my new goal :) I'm bad about never finishing personal projects. (Actually, if I finish this, I think it will be my first-ever 100% completed cross-stitch project!) Sometime's I'm so close to finishing, too. For example I have a beautiful (Liberty of London!) quilt completely quilted and everything, just waiting for the binding. It could take me as little as an hour to finish it, but I just can't bring myself to do it! I'm a weirdo... I'm trying to get better. The pattern is called Donut Pals by The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery. I'm cross stiching on linen, which is the best to cross-stitch on. It's faster and prettier! (Not sure what count this is.) I decided to do the sprinkle donut because Elyse loves sprinkles, and thought it would be extra cute to make it with pink frosting instead of chocolate. Tasty! <3 Lindsay Continue reading

My last-minute decision to go to the Sewing Summit was one of the best ones I've made in a long time... It was SO fun. I met a ton of great girls that I can't wait to see next year! The whole trip felt like a big blur, and I hardly took any pictures (which always seems to happen whenever I'm having a lot of fun) but I'll try to remember and give a little synopsis. Thursday - I flew out of Roanoke around 1:30. I was really nervous to leave. I hadn't flown in a long time, especially by myself, and never by myself for such a long trip! I survived though, and got to SLC at around 8:30pm MST. I got to the hotel, followed shortly thereafter by Kaitlin, my roomie! I called up Amanda and we met her and a bunch of other girls in her hotel room for a few minutes before bed. Friday - Kaitlin and I got up and headed downstairs to find some of our new friends in the lobby. Kait and I grabbed breakfast. Then we planned on renting a car for the day so we could check out the city a little bit. We ended up catching a ride with Amanda Hall, who had rented a big car that seated seven... exactly the number of people in our little group that morning! Perfect! So Kait, Amanda H., Amanda Porkchop, Jessica, Angela, Jeni and I all piled into a car and went on our own mini shop hop! We checked out a couple of fabric stores, a yarn store, and had lunch and frozen yogurt. SO fun. Later that evening, there was an opening mixer/reception type thing. They had beer/wine and cheese and crackers and things. We all mingled and talked, and I met a ton of people. After that, a bunch of us met up in Amanda Porkchop's room and she (along with some other helpers) taught me, Angela and Jessica how to knit! We went to bed at a decent hour so we could go to class in the morning. Saturday - Kait and I got up early so we could go to our classes! Our first class was Improv Piecing - How to Think Outside the Box with Jessica Berrett of Urban Patchwork. This class was held in a huge room filled with sewimg machines and ironing boards and cutting mats. I still have a hard time "thinking outside of the box" and I need to experiment with some curved piecing, but I still think my very straight imrpov-pieced sampler is fun :) My second class was Quilting at Home - Freemotion Quilting for the Modern Quilter with Allison Harris of Cluck Cluck Sew. Freemotion quilting is HARD. It's the complete opposite of using a longarm - it's like drawing by moving the "paper" (quilt) rather than the "pen" (needle.) But I did learn a bunch in this class! It just so happened that the sewing machines we were... Continue reading

All the cool kids are making super cute bags to bring with them to The Sewing Summit (note: Jeni's collection of handmade cuteness, and Amanda's adorable boxy knitting bag, etc.) I wanted to make at least one cute thing to bring along with me, and I need a cover for my new Kindle, so... I made a patchwork Kindle cover! I followed this pattern by Pattern Patti on Etsy with a few changes, mainly using a ribbon-tie closure instead of a button/tab. I do wish it fit my Kindle just a little more snugly, but it allows for room for maybe a Moleskine and a pen or pencil for doodling or making lists on my trip. I organized all of my fabric scraps by color the other day and arranged them in a hanging shoe rack in the tiny closet in my sewing room. Being able to easily access and actually see all of my scraps really helps when doing a scrappy project like this! I completely love this thing :) <3 Lindsay Continue reading

This afternoon we enjoyed some super family fun that we've been looking forward to for months! Yo Gabba Gabba LIVE! I was a little worried that it would be a little too much for Vada and she'd end up getting scared and crying or something, but she was great :) The first half of the show, especially at the begninning, she just sort of sat there with this mesmerized look on her face, like she was trying to figure out what exactly was going on. After the intermission though, I guess once she figure out that everything would be ok and that it was AWESOME... she let loose and got crazy! Dancing, singing, yelling, clapping. She got to give a juice box character a high five and was so stoked, she keeps telling everyone. "I gave high five... juice box!" Good times :) I smuggled my camera in (I got a new one yesterday! Upgraded to a D7000 which I LOVE. This was pretty much my first time really using it) and snuck some pictures of Vada and the Gabba gang. Lesley looked like she's lost at least 50lbs since whenever she appeared on those episodes of the actual show. I thought it was so cool that the REAL DJ Lance, Biz Markee, Lesley, etc. were all there! It was kind of hard to get a good shot in there because 1) It was complete pandamonium. and 2) it was dark. But I got a few decent ones. OH and I shot a little video! Disclaimer: This was my first time using video on my new camera, don't judge... I had to make sure I didn't get trampled by children the whole time I was filming. Oh, and Vada's version of "going crazy" is trying to eat popcorn that someone spiilled all over the floor. Yum. And her hair is jacked because she took her Brobee headband on and off 1,000 times. Anyway here it is :) I really hope they come back to Roanoke next year... if they do we're getting the Party Package so we can meet them all. I want to hug Brobee. <3 Lindsay Continue reading

Aw, thanks Lesley! I wish we were friends in real life, too. You could be my yoga buddy/healthy lifestyle role model, I would teach you to quilt, and it would be so fun for Vada and Matilda to play! :) I'll get back to blogging soon.

This quilt has been finished for so long... like months. Do you like it? It's pretty pink and pretty crazy! I haven't decided what I'm going to do with it yet. Christmas gift? Sell it? Keep it? I have three other quilts that have been finished for months that only need a binding, including my all-time favorite quilt I've ever made. Dani is going to do a hand-binding demo at our guild meeting next week. Hopefully it will enlighten/inspire me! I also have two other quilts-in-progress... and like 6 others living in my imagination waiting to come to life. I wish I had just a little more time to sew :) <3 Lindsay Continue reading
