Happy birthday on Saturday! It's my birthday too! I just got your book, and congrats, it's wonderful!
bustin' out all over
... in front of us, to the right, and to the left. There's evidence of playing in the street well past 6 o'clock, and many fancy blooms, which decorate our walk. Spring is all along the street, and even on my feet. (New sandal band-aid and all!) Thank you so much for your patience...

Hi Amanda!
This was a great post. I have been following your blog for years and honestly am inspired every time I read it, thank you so much for sharing your pictures and words with us everyday. Ok, so two questions Do the boys listen to the red sox games? If it weren't for foodtv and the sox the TV would be gone in my house! Second, what are some of your husbands favorite books? I am partcularly interested in knowing if he has any favorite "parenting" type books? Thanks!
HANDMADE HOME :: a conversation
I've said many times before that I think of this blog space here as my living room in many ways. When I thought about how I wanted to share the news and release of HANDMADE HOME, that's what kept coming to mind for me. I wished there was a way we could all sit around my coffee table with wine/te...
Wow! What a great treat! We've been beaching it up here the past few days and I would love my little ones to have a handmade blanket, what an awesome giveaway Amanda. BTW congrats on the book!
HANDMADE HOME :: beach blanket to-go
I'll be sharing over the rest of our "HANDMADE HOME Celebration" days together, a few of my favorite projects from the book. I hope when you start sewing from HANDMADE HOME, you'll take a moment to photograph and share what you've made in the HANDMADE HOME Flickr group. I would LOVE to see what...
Saturday rocked here in NH, hopefully June gloom will be behind us soon, remember how summer used to be....ahhh
24 hours of sunshine
I've lived in this New England climate for my entire life - long enough to know to take full advantage when the sun does shine. I think that's one reason I love the summer so much - it is so fully lived and soaked in and appreciated - by everyone I see. And so - in the middle of the wettest, ra...
Hi! about squam, I am really wanting to go since I am in NH,and figure out how to see your event. The website didn't have any info (about your speaking engagement) on it last I checked, can you post the link to sign up to come and see you?
Thanks!
here & there
Your weekly dose of beach photos! The water's still downright COLD (the kids - with their differently-wired internal thermometer - are the only ones swimming yet), and often a trip the beach requires a sweater. But that's not stopping us - we're out there loving it every day that ...
Looks are deceiving, there is no hugging going on in that pic! And I am in the 50's in the book, it needs to pick up soon, or I am putting down even sooner!
On Mama's Day
Eating ~ albeit fattening, but oh so good french toast. Taking a break during naptime~ and trying so desperately to join in on the addiction that's got so many of my friends all keyed up. But mostly just soaking in the sun. Wondering ~ what I did with myself before these two. Hope y...
ok, I am crying right now, thank you for your honesty amanda!

Yesterday was one of those days. If you're a parent, or even if you remember having a parent, I bet you know just how those kinds of days can go down. Some days there are a few bumps and then other days, for no apparent reason, the road is so bumpy with challenging moments that you just can...
so sweet, I look forward to "special time" with my two year old while my 6 month old naps in the am, love the dresses!
sewing with help
There's been a wonderful little pocket of time that's emerged in the rhythm of our afternoons lately. With Harper down for his long nap of the day, and the boys outside making Flip videos of each other crashing off their handmade jumps and into mud with their bikes (good times)...Adelaide and I ...
Lovely pics, I am definately envious! PS I tagged you over at my blog when you have the chance.

while the quilt is being made...
Adelaide did not get her new quilt in time for her birthday as I had planned all summer. Though it does sit in my studio in a pile - pieced, backing cut, batting sized and binding made. (And we're not going to talk more about that except for two things: 1. Let's change the Summer of Quilts to th...
You are so funny, I am so glad I came across your blog, it's really a good break from the baby crazies here in my house too.
non sequiturs.
Thanks for the bonnet pattern love! We are moving kid speed around here, but all of them will go very soon. I made these green cords for Sadie. She is tall, much taller than the average almost 5 year old. The heart knee patches are for her now, 4 almost 5. . .it's crazy that we have an almost ...
Wow Amy, thank you, thank you thank you.
not made in china.
(image from Willow Tree Toys) So. . .it's pretty creepy about the whole toy recall thing. I'd love to say our house is filled with only handmade or European/American made toys, but it's not. We have a lot of amazing wood/fabric toys and all. . . but we also have some bad stuff too. And with ...
Hi! Delurking to agree with you 100% on all fronts: the dress, the cupcakes and the mag. But back to the dress, I think anything with the name "gypsy" in it sounds so intriguing that it immediately turns on the "I have to have this right now!" part of your brain. Actually now that I think about it, cupcakes turns on that part of your brain too, off to the kitchen. See ya! :)
congrats on the babes btw!
cupcakes and dresses.
I just got the new Good Things for Kids from Martha. I have all the old MSL Kids magazines, under lock and key, so I really like it when they do these best of issues because I really use them--I get all weird about the actual magazines and don't like to leave them out. This lollipop cupcake (i...
These are such cute pics! Now for the question bonanza, I live in NH, how do I find out about a CSA? Is it difficult to find? Do local farmers do it? Nosey, Nosey, Nosey!
what I love :: rhubarb + strawberries
Yummy rhubarb from our local CSA. + Strawberries from yesterday's pick-your-own adventure. = the perfect 6am pre-breakfast muffin snack (vintage strawberry tablecloth makes them taste even better). Strawberry - Rhubarb Muffins 1.5 cups unbleached flour 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour 1/2 ts...
I love those cushions, and I have the same exact couch that I decided the other day that I HATE, good idea for a re-do with the cushions
summer pillows and couch rambling
{Completely a tongue-in-cheek post ahead. I do not, of course, really and seriously fret over a couch - only a little. Just sayin'.} I'm not digging on our couch lately. The couch we spent *forever* finding and agonizing over (and in the end, ended up with THE most basic of couches). I could t...
so, so sorry for the loss, sending warmest thoughts and hugs. Slowly everyday it will get better and easier.
sweet luka
Thank you so very much for your prayers, positive thoughts, energy and words of concern and kindness today. Really, it has meant so much. And I know that it helped us find her. We did find Luka earlier this morning, and it was immediately clear to us that she had gone into the woods for the very...
I love how it turned out, and I love how you managed to mix all of your vintage & thrifted finds with more modern stuff from Ikea, etc. it's beautiful and I am jealous!
come on in
So here it is. My little room. I actually feel a little shy about sharing it - isn't that funny? I've stalled on photographing it - making up excuses of little details that needed to be finished first (I never did install the vintage milk glass doorknob I scoured town for - see that hole in th...
I just came across your blog a few weeks ago and stayed up late last night to read some more of your posts you are so inspirational, entertaining, funny, sincere and succinct in your writings, I can't wait for your book to be released, yippie!
Quiet Cooking
I don't think I need to tell you how much I love the busy, bustle, energy of family life, and particuarly around family mealtime. I really do. I feel blessed to have it, and I truly enjoy it - the mess, the baking, the craziness, the creativity, the laughter. I wouldn't trade it for the world....
