Eloquent Archives Archivists acknowledge and review physical and digital accessions from the records department as well from many other sources, selecting what needs to be preserved permanently and preparing it for storage. Software tracks and logs these process and accommodates additional descriptive information that describes the historical significance. The format of the descriptive records and structure of the data relationships needs to comply with the international standards expected by researchers. A hierarchical structure enables information at a high level to be inherited to all lower levels so that when later research discovers additional information it can be added or corrected in one place and automatically apply to all related records. Much of the older archival material is in paper format and often fragile. It usually may be viewed only in a reading room. Privacy issues require additional preparation (redacting) of material prior to making it available online or in hard copy. Material with a geographic significance should be presented on Google Maps. The Archives Application has a wide variety of workflow processes to help archivists promote the rich heritage represented in their holdings: 1. Automatic generation of attractive historical timeline for posting on the Internet with link back into the live database for more related information, 2. Exporting of portions of the database for importing into other federated systems with links back for more detail and for digital content, 3. Publication of other HTML files for posting to the Internet where they can be indexed by the search engines, and 4. Analytics to illustrate what archival material is attracting the most online interest.
