EmmieBean recently had the pleasure of participating in the first-ever Venice Meet, a monthly craft fair held on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA. The fair was super fun and really well-curated, with lots of awesome craftspeople, food artisans, and live music. One of my fav vendors was Ice-Ice Shavie, a mixology-inspired approach to crazy-delicious shaved-ice treats… I'm ashamed (and not so ashamed) to say I ate 3 that day- one tasted link a Mint Julep, another was lemon, blackberry, and thyme, and the third- elderflower and lemonade. Um, yes, they were bomb. Must recreate at home sometime. EmmieBean did... Continue reading

Some of you know my lovely neighbor Teresa. We met when Dana and I moved into what is now dubbed Bear Cat Manor and hit it off from the start. T is equal parts sweet, funny, talented, smart and dorky... a great combination to find in a friend! I wanted to share her hilarious ponderings with you in the form of her new blog- The Domestic Barbarian. Check it out. It is sure to make you giggle. This post in particular about her and her fantastical hubs Gavin's honeymoon planning made me laugh out loud. I can definitely relate. Continue reading

So for those of you who don't know why this little blog took such a long snooze this summer, it's because I was off getting hitched! After nine long years together, Dana and I tied the knot at Jalama Canon Ranch under the oak trees. It was a marvelous, perfect day that we won't soon forget. Here are a few photos from our happy happy day... Yay for wedded bliss!! Continue reading

In true nerd-fashion, Dana and I attended this year's Bunny Festival! Afraid Mini would have a mini bunny panic attack, we didn't bring her, but we went on her behalf. Secretly, I thought we might find a furry friend to adopt for her (we even considered this pretty little Red below) but decided that one bun is all the bun we need for the time being. This fluffy white bunny was hilarious! Basically a white puff with feet and ears. Ladies were using his fur to make angora thread. Ew? But resourceful! And of course, below is my Mini, in... Hey loves... sorry I have been a little absent. Have been super busy with work and wedding planning, etcetera. With only 4 months to until the big day, we're checking more and more things off of our wedding to-do list. I'm curious... what are the cooler things you've experienced at other people's weddings? What unique things really stood out? I would love to add to my ever growing list of lovely must-do details. Continue reading

So, of course, I've been listening to Stevie Nicks's new album, In Your Dreams, on repeat for the last day. In a word: Enchanting. Everything a girl could ask for from the wild-haired songstress. One of my favorite songs on the album is Moonlight, which the singer says she wrote about "the love stories between monsters, gods, and humans." She dedicated the song to Edward and Bella. haha! Now for those of you who know what a huge dork I am (as if this post wasn't enough of an indication), I may have done a little happy dance when I... Continue reading

Stevie's video for "Secret Love" was released today. Note the end where she disappears in a poof! of sparkles. That woman is such an enchantress. Cannot wait for the release of her new album on May 3rd. I feel like bottles will have to be popped and candles lit on that special night! Continue reading

I know it's a little silly that I am posting these photos now, seeing as it has been over a year since this desk was built. But I figured this labor of love still deserved a feech, tardy or not, and also figured that some of you might consider building furniture yourselves in the future, and would want a little peek into the process. Let me start by saying, this was the first large piece of furniture I had EVER built, so it took a long long time to complete. But the hours spent routing and sanding and staining were... Spring is finally here! Hooray! It's going to be 90 degrees out in sunny Santa Barbara today, and I plan to celebrate it with a little gardening. I have a new jasmine and a few new tomato plants that are eager to get in the dirt. How are you spending your day? Continue reading

I recently stumbled upon the blog La Mariee aux Pieds Nus. There's nothing like a French wedding blog to bring a little je ne sais quois to the world of wedding planning. Everything is just a little bit... Frenchier! I've been grabbing tons of D.I.Y. ideas for my own nuptials this summer, including this bouquet of baby's breath. So delicate and pretty! I know we've all thought of baby's breath as purely cheap filler for grocery bouquets up until now, but lately I've been seeing it pop up everywhere as a modern, simple statement flower all by itself. Tie a... Continue reading

Okay, so in addition to India, the next place on my to-visit list is Trentino, Italy. I've driven through here during trips to Europe, but never stayed, and its gorgeous rolling hills are beckoning me. I'd say it looks equally as stunning as my favorite place on earth, Lucerne, Switzerland (below). Gotta love that vintage, colorized photo! What's the next destination on all of your to-visit lists? I'd like to introduce you all to Young Hearts Photography... the new photography business of two of my very favorite people, Dana Solomon & Mollie Crutcher. Gorgeous, right? I love their light and airy style and the way they use a variety of digital and lo fi cameras when shooting... all of the things I looked for when booking my own wedding photographer a couple months back. To book Young Hearts for your wedding, engagement shoot, family portrait session, or any special moment you want captured on film, visit www.youngheartsphoto.com. They're offering insanely low prices right now, so take advantage... Continue reading

What do you do when you have a bunch of spotted bananas in the fruit bowl that are just a little too ripe to eat? Make banana bread! That's just what I did this afternoon in between wedding planning and etsy workin'. This recipe is SO easy and yields delicious results. INGREDIENTS 3 or 4 ripe bananas, smashed 1/3 cup melted butter 1 cup sugar (can easily reduce to 3/4 cup) 1 egg, beaten 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda Pinch of salt 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour METHOD No need for a mixer for this recipe. Preheat... Continue reading

So as most of you know by now, Dana and I just got engaged after nine years together. Hooray! And planning a D.I.Y. wedding is just as fun as I thought it would be. As if planning one big party couldn't be fun. It's also been surprisingly easy so far, knock on wood. I guess it doesn't hurt that I scour about six adorable wedding blogs daily (Once Wed is one of my favs!) and have been saving clippings like some sort of digital hoarder for a while now. Somebody is going to have to stage an intervention soon. As... Continue reading
