The one across the street from the Target, etc?
There's also Carbonic Services, which is where I get my CO2 tank refilled - if you ever need gas again :D They're not much farther away.
Adventures in Oxygen
Twenty years ago, my dad helped me set up my first studio by procuring the oxygen tank I would need for soldering. (The propane tank came from my then father-in-law.) After awhile, I began to think it might be some sort of magical tank because I never ran out of oxygen. Until now. OK, so it wasn...
Like everyone else said, you didn't really screw up. Worst that's going to happen is that you don't get a compete fermentation, and some people *like* that. My husband and I prefer a maltier beer over a hoppy one, and I pretty much only check my SGs at pitch and when I'm about to keg/bottle. Maybe your beer is a little sweeter. If that works for you, then hey, it wasn't a screwup! When my husband and I got married, I made beer and he made custom labels. On the day of the wedding, we took our... 99 bottles of beer! =) The guests loved it.
an update on the wheaton and son homebrewing experience
Today, Ryan and I racked (that's fancy homebrew language for "moved") our beer from its primary fermentation into its secondary fermentation. We know now that we probably moved it a little early, but since we're learning and everything, we'll just chalk it up to experience and hope for the best....
Regarding the celiac tests - one of my very best friends is celiac, though her tests also come back negative. The tests are good (or at least better than they used to be), but they're not perfect. So don't be surprised that they don't work, and don't let people tell you you're full of it just because the formal tests didn't show anything. All of our friends know that if Ang eats wheat, she gets horribly, miserably, utterly sick. Period.
You're not alone.
Overcoming my fear of cooking, at a Silicon Valley Indian Market
"Twas the day before Thanksgiving, and a little voice inside me said, "Jill, it is time to cook, It is time to be adventurous with your cooking. It is time to get over your fear of cooking and JUST DO IT.". You see, my mother owns Thanksgiving, meaning that she does all the cooking and enter...
I can haz vote! I voted a couple of hours ago now, and I'm just crossing my fingers that the presidential polls are right, and that 8 and 4 go down in the FLAMES they should.
one lever, pulled.
My voting experience was quick and easy. I think I spent more time confirming my ballot was marked correctly than I spent waiting in line. I guess going in the middle of the morning will do that for you. I wasn't expecting it, but the historical significance of the moment totally overwhelmed ...

I'm not actually sure what's worse - that picture, or my hesitation to click the link because my first thought was 'OMG, it's going to be a rickroll OR he's dressing as Rick Astley for Halloween'.
plan b
My plan to be Doctor Horrible for Halloween was disrupted when I couldn't find the appropriate lab coat and goggles anywhere. Luckily, I had a much more disturbing Plan B.

Thanks for the link! I'm looking forward to teaching my daughter (currently 17 months) about games and gaming and all that. So far, she only really knows that you're supposed to blow on dice before you roll them :)
another awesome column from geekdad
I have to do a bunch of real work today, so I'm just going to point to a fantastic column at GeekDad that every GeekMom and GeekDad should read: Teaching Kids to Roleplay is Only Natural. Children are born to role play. It is one of the key ways in which children learn. Ok, so it isn’t all dic...

I feel your pain. I have TMJ, and it is flat out shocking just how much pain can be caused by your jaw being even a little out of place. I wore a splint for months (I still wear it sometimes) to get my jaw back to where it's supposed to be. It was incredible how the temple headaches went away after a couple of weeks - just because my jaw was being used correctly. Hope yours goes quicker:)
in which wil gets no work done
I have a theory, and it is mine. It goes like this: When I get up early in the morning and go straight to work, I produce an avalanche of words before I get tired, about nine hours later. When I get up later in the morning and go straight to work, I produce substantially fewer words, and never r...

I used to work an inventory job - one morning we were doing it at a food co-op in Sacramento while the employees were stocking the store for the day. I can't remember what song came on over the radio they had blaring in the store, but by the end of the first verse, the entire crew was singing and dancing along with it. It was really cool to hear the song spread across the aisles of the store. :) One of the oddest and yet most fun experiences I've ever had.
it helps you to imagine
This is one of those rambling I-should-probably-just-bahleet-it-but-I'm-writing-it-because-I-need-to-even-though-I'm-not-sure-why posts. You should probably skip it. I was talking to Andrew last night (we're planning Monolith Press Global Domination 2009) and since we both love RPGs, we ended up...

I had a brain cramp reading that because a friend of mine recently wrote a book called _House of Cards_ and she's occasionally done similar posts about how she keeps focused and the things she catches herself doing when she's having motivational problems. I started to think "er.. did he ask her to write this?" and well. Small world. :)
five simple ways to Just Keep Writing
I'm reluctant to pass myself off as some kind of authority on writing, because I still have a lot to learn, but from time to time I'm asked a question that I can answer with some degree of confidence. That happened earlier today, and (as you'll see at the end of this post) I thought it may be wo...

A freakin men. I admit, my husband is kinda sad. We have a kid about to have her first birthday and he really doesn't feel comfortable playing a game like GTA IV in front of her. He loves the series, but being a good parent? Yeah, it means more than just changing diapers. So we may, or we may not get GTA IV soon. And he'll take a lot longer to play it because hey, she's too little to be exposed to that kind of thing. We don't need any morality police to tell us that.
regarding GTA IV and the morality patrol
With GTA IV coming out tomorrow, the usual gang of idiots are up in arms about how this game will lead to the end of civilization as we know it, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria, etc. As I said in my PAX keynote, this sort of moralistic chest-thumping makes me a little stabby: Whenev...

Holy crap, I'm not sure what's more disturbing - that you found that, that I remember the words, or that my 11 month old started dancing to it!
saturday morning flashback
Set the wayback machine for the early 80s, Sherman. Any Saturday morning will do . . . I was such a nerd, I thought Timer was actually kind of cool. He taught us how to be healthy through song! I was such a nerd, I thought the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon was really cool. Except for Uni. I...

In the spirit of Cat vs. Monkey . . . Me: iTunes, play whatever you want on random. iTunes: Cool! Have some Isaac Hayes, followed by Yes! Me: Maybe we need to talk about this... iTunes: Hey, jerk, it was in YOUR library. Don't blame me for getting creative. Me: Let's never fight again. iTune...

I just scared my infant daughter with how hard that made me laugh. :)
still funny, still true.
Prompted by a comment on Slashdot, I would like to reprint this old blog post, which still makes me laugh: Around 1987 or 1988, I saw Larry Niven at a convention. I was officially there to be the Star Trek guy, but I didn't have to go on stage for a few hours, and rather than sit in some suite w...

The Internets worked its magic yesterday, and Dead Eyes Open creator Matt Shepherd e-mailed me this totally awesome image of your humble narrator, in all his living dead glory. Dead Eyes Open is really fantastic, and I highly recommend it for anyone who is a fan of Monster Island, Zombies!!!,...
